God’s Garden was pretty sweet also. High level Japanese players aren’t going anywhere. If they truly love the series they will adapt. I don’t care what Ono says though. I still have a hard time believing they won’t eventually have an arcade release… even if it is sometime after the console release. Kind of like with Upper.
But hey, BlazBlue Continuum Shift is getting an arcade release! Former SFIV players are welcomed with open arms!
If Capcom Japan doesn’t give a shit about its player base, then the SF scene is as good as dead.
If all Capcom cares about is money, then fine. But money never made what the SF scene has become today. The players did.
The hardcore players are what drive the scene, NOT the scrubs who play at home on XBL or PSN.
The truth is that the Japanese are the ones who helped keep the SF community alive. By saying no to an arcade release, it’s like killing off the one country that helped keep the community alive.
Why did the SF scene in Japan flourish, but not in the US? Because of arcades.
Japan makes up the biggest portion (by far) of the SF community.
North America did the opposite. With the majority of gamers playing at home on their PCs or consoles, they helped kill the arcades. Without arcades, there would be no XBOX, PS3, or Wii.
A: Maybe. It all depends upon you as fans of the game to support the franchise for future releases.
Q: Is it possible to keep the scene alive via console-only play?
A: Yes. If this game is treated with the respect that it deserves by the fans, it can still be enjoyed and the scene can thrive. Arcades such as Family Funtime Arcade offer the ability to play games on console. They have a timed play based system in which you can pay for an hour or two of time on a given system. I have played SFIV (console) there many times. The console release in my opinion is much better than the Arcade release. Keep in mind that the game console resides inside an authentic arcade cabinet complete with arcade sticks. There is no reason why the console version cannot be played in the same way that the arcade version is.
Q: Will the Japanese play the console version, or will they skip town?
A: They will most definitly play this game. Don’t fool yourselves into thinking otherwise. They will find a way to play this game in the arcades just like Family Funtime Arcade did. Just wait and see.
I have a feeling it will be ported to Arcade. Perhaps not so much for over here, but definitely in Japan. Sure the game centers may be shutting down, but maybe that has to do with the fact that there is a Taito Game Station on like every block. Arcades may not be as jam packed as they used to be, but certainly people still go to them. I was there not to long ago, and I was hard pressed not to find loads of people playing Street Fighter IV and Tekken 6. As well as plenty of other games. Even the smallest of arcades in Japan generate more revenue than the most popular ones here.
You are delusional. Without these scrubs you would still be playing 15 year old games and your “scene” would be dwindling every year as the hardcore stop playing. Yeah dude, this is a business… not some charity because Capcom is thankful to the hardcore.
Well, actually, the SF scene in Japan flourished more there than the US because the US gaming scene is different from back then. Not just SF, but alot of other fighting games, even US-made ones like Mortal Kombat arent too big here anymore. Until SF4, the fighting game genre was dying out to FPS, WRPGS, MMORPGS, and various action games here.
And dont give arcades the credit for EVERY fucking thing. Consoles have existed prior to arcades. Look up your gaming history.
Not really, but I’d take a late arcade release over none at all. Everyone saying they aren’t going to buy the console version because of this… They’re doing more harm than good. That will definitely make sure Capcom doesn’t see the financial benefit of an arcade version.
Sorry, dudes, but you’re wrong. The US needs Japan to get better. And this thread is obvious reason why. Do you not see the redheaded stepchild / Stockholm syndrome / idolatry going on here?
On a serious note, I have got to say the “we need Japan” sentiment is sad. But I say this not out of pity. I say this out of pride. Do you ever ask WHY Japan is better? “They play regularly” “They have a robust community” “It’s their culture” And Americans don’t? Have we not had very sizeable competitive hotspots in SoCal, NorCal, NY, and other large cities, both before and after the death of the American arcade? Even now, after that death, do we not have people logging hours, days, weeks on competitive games trying to learn and try things? Do we not have scenes already adapting to the new era with all-console Evo, “bar fights”, and the ilk. Do we not have players that are dedicated, gifted, smart, and inventive? I am just amazed that the people so adamantly vocal about this don’t realize how pitifully sad it sounds that they are almost proudly proclaiming that they are and will always be inferior, completely willing to give up all hopes of improvement, declare Japanese supremacy, and that the only way to get better is to learn from the Japanese overlords via Youtube.
That is pathetic. That lack of drive and hunger is just outright pathetic. Again, not only do I say this out of pity. I say this out of pride. In watching certain vids from another certain country of another certain game that I’m certainly better at, maybe when I was a bit younger and inexperienced did I have self-defeating thoughts like that. But now, that is fucking laughable. All I’m seeing from these vids are very good people playing. They aren’t inhuman. They’re just good players that become that way through lots of practice, talent, competition, innovation, and dedication. Same things anyone here have. Same things I have. If I can’t match them, it’s not because I don’t have legendary Asian players to leach off of. It’s because I need to step my game up and man the fuck up.
Why is this thread even ABOUT Japan vs. US? The top competition at EVO mostly ALL come from the arcade scene. This will hurt US just as much as Japan. There is no benefit to not having an arcade release, but this is a huge loss without having an arcade scene.
lol our arcade scene is very small in the grand scheme of things in the U.S. Lots of good console players showed up to tournaments like Evo/WCW and did very well. The few arcade players we have will have to adapt. Good players aren’t going to go anywhere just because of the lack of an arcade release here.
I can’t believe some of you actually believe this game will not eventually make it to arcades.
You’re all just crying wolf. While it might not share a simultaneous release with consoles, I would put my money on ‘SSFIV will get an arcade release eventually’.
Look at the 3S community in Japan. Even after SF4 was released, many top Japanese 3S players still kept playing. Hell, some players like Boss or KO, 3S is the only game they play.
ST is an even better example. The game is 15 years old and they still have a community, and a strong one at that.
I’d rather have a small group of dedicated hardcore players than a bunch of scrubs that only know how to mash buttons.
And I’m fine with playing these 15 year old games if that means that there is still a hardcore scene that actually cares about the game.
And that’s what I’ve been doing. Fuck SF4. The game is garbage, IMO. No one in my city plays the old games anymore. Why? 'Cause SF4 killed all of the communities.
So why do I play if there is no competition? I play for the love of the game.
Ok, consoles have been around longer than arcades. My bad.
Still, console and PC gaming can go die in a fire.
