Petition for arcade release of SSF4

When did I say this was any one of our faults? I’m expressing my discontent with the “fuck em, adapt” mentality. I’m not blaming anyone. The hell?

No, most of the Japanese will move on to other games. It’s as simple as that. They do not play money matches in peoples homes like we do. Doesn’t work that way.

Read my shit again. The point I’m making is simple: This effects everyone. Don’t have some American elitist attitude. Please support an arcade release.

Read my posts again and show me where I blame Americans for this. That’s what I fucking thought TM*.

me want arcade realease knows!!!
But seriously i find it weird that SSF4 would not see an arcade release frankly its blasphemy.

i’m not saying you are wrong in any way, but if we can prolong the death of arcades as long as we can… why not try?

just because something will eventually die, does that mean you should just give up now?

i mean we’re all going to die some day… should we just roll over now?

i’m not really certain it will. i’d like to hope that it stays strong and that they convert to playing console.
they have very high bandwidth in japan and are located in close proximity so they actually have the potential of a very good online community…

but there is a good chance if this happens, that the street fighter scene there will take a big hit.
part of the reason for this is that arcades aren’t just going to die when ssf4 doesn’t come out.
arcade players will still go to arcades, and they will most likely just move onto another game.

even if the sf4 scene in japan does move online, i’m worried that it will greatly weaken the scene. i mean arcades are dead in most of the US and most people have moved over to consoles for years but guess what, the parts of the US that have strong arcades produce the best players. there is something about a centralized neutral location of an arcade that just makes people get better.
i wish the US had a better LAN center scene or something where people could play console games but in an arcade like environment…
but unfortunately people are lazy and really aren’t willing to drive anywhere when they can play at their houses.

and in the bigger picture, the fact that people would rather stay home on their couches instead of going out to do something with their friends or other people in person is pretty worrying.

Bullseye.

All top EVO players practiced at arcades or locally. There’s no denying this.

This gets my signature if no other reason than to experience the arcade hype all over again, playing until 2AM closing just trying to learn and get better with each quarter you put it. Honestly, some of the best times of my life right there. Flame me all you want for saying that.

Pretty much the above is what I was addressing.

You act as if this were something we genuinely have some say over, when the truth is that we don’t. And neither do the Japanese players. $$$ does.

The issue is that if there isn’t an arcade release, a lot of Japanese players will simply not play. And that’s sad. I really enjoy Street Fighter and the entire scene surrounding it. Some people say that the US has adapted…I’m not sure how many of you remember what it was like when there were actually arcades, but it was great. That is gone and it has not been replaced at all. Just because a lot of people showed at Evo doesn’t mean that the SF scene is alive and kicking. If anything, SF4 put it on life support for awhile longer. This is essentially Capcom pulling the plug. Heck, even our best players are centered around strong arcades. I hope Capcom changes their minds about this.

I see both sides of this…

- On one hand: Game centers are shutting down all over japan. Online gaming wasn’t really ‘on the map’ in japan until recently, at least not compared to the way it is in the western world. The arcade scene is dying over in japan for many of the same reasons that it died over here 15-ish years ago. (More and more people buying consoles, hardware getting more and more expensive, pay-to-pay not as appealing as owning a copy that you can play for as long as you want, etc.) - Moreover, the economy isn’t good for anyone right now. Can they really convince Japanese game-center owners to buy new boards, which will make their current SF4 version obsolete?

- On the other hand: The arcade culture has been so strong in japan for such a long time, i’d hate to see it fall apart. (and it has been falling apart… maybe not with the top SF players in japan, but with the casual robot action shovel-ware crowd). I’ve always been envious of the fact that walking around japan it wasn’t hard to run into arcades here and there. It seems like video games are more of a accepted part of the japanese culture, from hardcore otaku to the casual high school guy or girl and even to the old men playing pachinko in the ground floor of a lot of those places. Even in its hay-day in the US, arcades never had the cultural significance (although, i may be overstating it a bit) that it has had in japan.

Not to mention the fact that the reason japan has such a high level of play is because there are so many players in huge metropolitan areas that play against each other in person nearly every day.

*In the greater scheme of things, even if arcades do die out in japan, people are still going to play street fighter and other games. The Japanese scene may become more like the western scene, but it will still exist.

Personally i think it would be wiser for Capcom to get rid of the Japanese XBOX360 version, and use the leftover funding to get a limited arcade release up in japan. The amount of XBOX360 owners in japan is not as significant as it is in the USA. (and while there are many people that have XBOX360s, a big number of those people also have PS3s, Wiis, Multiple DSs, and other platforms.)

I think that if capcom did what Final Fantasy XIII is doing and foregoing a japanese xbox release to save on costs of production, they could slip a limited arcade release into their budget.

Because remember, capcom is a company and has a budget and we need to be understanding of that as consumers. If there are any multimilionaires on SRK right now that wanna call up capcom japan and present funding for an arcade release im sure they would be glad to do it (but lets face it, SRK is just a bunch of freeloading slackers with little more than busfare… :wgrin:)

** it was the best of times, it was the worst of times… SSFIV**

You do not need the Japanese players to be good at a game just comp.

I mean yeah no arcades sucks…but none of us will be playig ssf4 i arcade even if it was released in one, i dont see the need for you guys moaning.

ParryAll has a good point, they don’t adapt, they might simply choose not to play the game and make the switch to other fighters. I’d like the fighting scene keeps together as long as possible, but if japan begins to fall, it is difficult for us to envision since the scene in japan has been going strong for such a long time.

The highlighted being key.

I seriously doubt that the greats are going to start sucking without arcades.

but is that not because the games came out on arcades first? surely it is lol.

I really didn’t want to post in this thread cause I’m split on the issue but I figured I could use some more neg rep so here it goes.

The arcade scene is dead. This has been established for years now. Japan has always stuck out as the “Arcade Metropolis”. But as we seen in the link posted by suprez (http://www.gamingtarget.com/article.php?artid=8315). Their scene is declining in favor of home consoles. People are acting like this is going to forever split US and JAP, and we will never meet in a competition again. But, honesty I think they as a culture will adapt. Don’t we all adapt to keep doing the thing we enjoy/love? Japan has high level console players but they just don’t get the publicity that arcade players do ( yeb&jibbo fans enjoy).

Now that we have the cultural thing out of the way, I can address the “scene and atmosphere” now this I have no experience in this ,being trapped in the Mid-west. Even in this wasteland of FPS and MMORPGS we still have our niche. The Seasons Beatings is picking up hype. And even in Cali one of the few arcade scenes left we have the birth of “The Box Arena”(http://theboxarena.files.wordpress.com/2009/09/662817341_kzjot-l.jpg seems like a fun group atmosphere to me) And then we have the East coast which I don’t know alot about but even in North Carolina similar event take place such as “Tastumaki at Saki’s” (btw check these guys out great stream) it might not be on the scale of Box Arena, but come on its North Carolina…no offense. So personally I think instead of trying to keep the scene on a respirator, we pull the plug. But as long as we have people willing to get together and a place to organize it(SRK) the scene will not die. And I doubt it will in Japan also.

So I will not sign but I do understand the feelings of trying to keep it alive and I respect those of you who “signed”.

tl;dr-'09 rambling just neg rep him.

That’s in response to people saying that online can replace it.

And you can stop hovering over this thread like a hawk.

lol

You know what happens when Arturo gets people over for an SF4 session?

You all sit around and watch him or someone else play online.

I’m just waiting for Paper to come own me online (he will).

This has my signature.

I think the best way to get an arcade port is showing your support for the console version and letting your voice be heard. Refusing to even play the game isn’t going to help the situation.

LOL

Btw nice Hatsune Miku avatar.

gootecks has already got the idea with “bar fights”.

ideas like that are the future of competitive gaming.
