What about all the arcade operators that spent shitloads of money on them SF4 cabs?
No arcade release/update is like saying “Haha! Thanks for the money, suckers.”
I dunno about you but if I was an arcade operator that spent 12k just for 2 cabs (which are necessary to play against one another), I’d be super fuckin’ pissed.
Capcom is the new Examu.
they should just add a mode/make an addon that makes the game act like the arcade version and have a button designated to trigger the coin. it cant be that difficult. then people can just wire everything up to a cabinet and everything will be swell. atleast then they wouldnt be making everyone who plays in the arcade be fucking pissed.
im pretty sure the cost of a ps3 and two ps3 pad pcbs is a lot cheaper than the whole arcade board.
i guess theres more to worry about besides that. but its not like they would do it anyway.
erikstanton, they do have console setups at some arcades. my friend was telling me that milpitas golfland has or had that.
As someone who plays mostly in the arcade despite having the home versions, I’m gravely disappointed.
We need this shit in the arcades!
I saw this post and could not believe people think this way.
So I want to play Street Fighter. I wounder what’s cheaper. I can buy an xbox ($250ish with hard drive) and a smallish HD TV ($150ish) a stick with full sanwa ($150 from madcatz) the game ($40) xbox live ($50 a year) internet access($40 a mouth) so that’s a total of around $680 for the first mouth of “playing for free at home”.
I could also just go to the arcade I live by and spend 5 bucks tonight for as many games as I get depending on my skill and the skill of others. And lets not forget that online there is lag, douchbags. Whereas at the arcade there is no bad connection, I meet new people, douchbags are less douchbaggy in public (generally), and the atmosphere there is a lot better then say, my couch.
On topic: I would sign this petition. I think capcom big wigs are saying that they don’t care about street fighter anymore, but there are enough people in the company that love it to get super out there.
Once again, it’s not necessarily a good thing, but arcades just are not doing well enough to warrent Capcom to make an arcade version. It’s just sadly a dying community that has to evolve. It is’t ideal but it is necessary.
At the person above: Who doesn’t have a TV and an internet connection already? How much do you think the pros have dished out to play at arcades every day in Japan? Probably over a thousand!
I agree to this. The Japanese will still just play the Arcade version while we have upgraded twice. Strange this has happened though.
They will still play SFIV most likely but their will probably be less hype for the game.
But then again they may just release an arcade edition.
this is SOOOO F***ed… biggest mistake Capcom have ever made with the SF series (yes, even including the move game and all that shit). This will completely put a fork in competitive SF play. Considering the fact that a lot of Japanese players may not even play this competitively, it makes me wondr wether this will even be taken in as the new SF to be played at tournies, and if it isnbt then what’s the point? Capcom have effectively said ‘fuck you’ to the scene that they helped built and which has, in return, supported them so greatly.
IMO, if Capcom move way from arcades then a dfferent game will come up and be crowned king of competitive play just because it’s in the arcades. This will in turn destroy SF, cause it wont be the authorative beat-em-up.
I TRULY thing Capcom have completely messed themselves up with this decision. Disgusted, saddened and wondering if I’ll even bother to keep playing SF. THIS IS BULLSHIT.
BRIEF RESPONSE T THOSE WHO THINK IT DOESNT MATTER
arades are absolutely paramount to competitive gaming in beat-em-ups. The Japanese arcade infrastructure is the absolute core of competitive play. the reason the Japanese are so good is because hey have so many arcades and they play there all the time. playing online will NEVER be the same as at an arcade. There wont be videos from Jap players, there wont be names (those that already exist will become less), there wont be such a clear peak and icon of what all hardcore S players are trying to achieve. This basucally says ‘fuck competition, we jst want people to have fu and give us money.’ It could well have an influence over this great site. F U Capcom.
Heres the thing. Okay I get that people love to hang out, be with bros, play some games at the arcade and kick back. I get it BUT one game isn’t going to destroy the arcade scene. You can still go to the arcade and play the classics.
On another note. Whether its Japanese or American, any pro player out there will play the next installment whether its in the arcade or not. If you are dedicated to the game you will play it. Street Fighter has jumped from the next system to the next system. We can do so can Japan. They’re not going to become tards and run into walls and stuff because they can’t play in arcades. Were not goin to become the ultimate nation because its on console only. You gotta remember a shit company came out of the darkness and gave us these beautiful TE stix that are amazing and are basically Japanese arcade stix.
Daigo sat right next to J-Wong and fought to the death at EVO on a PS3 with TE stick.
Last year everyone was begging to see the next Console exclusive character but now everyone is bitching because its not coming to arcade? All and all whether its coming out on DS, beta max, PS3, arcade, or for a tractor. Pro players will play and get better.
If some asked Daigo “Hey man arcade isn’t coming out what are you going to do?”
He’ll probably shrug his shoulders and head over to super happy fun land hello kitty shop and reserve his copy of SSFIV for this spring.
do you just pay to play for a certain amount of time though? i think it would be a lot stronger if they just had it able to function just like the arcade board does.
i guess no japanese will be coming to evo next year…

i love going to AI and playing with all the other people there, dont seperate the scene!
I really, really doubt this. He doesn’t even have a console from what I know.
Shit, nigga can’t even be motivated to set his location and home arcade on his own arcade card lol.
Edit:
Yes, you pay something like 500 yen and it’s all play. The Soulcalibur community in Japan did this for a while with SC4, and I supported it by joining in their freeplay sessions and tournies… but guess what. The community is DEAD because it had no arcade version. Everyone stopped giving a shit about SC4 when Namco made it clear there wouldn’t be an arcade version.
Sorry, big thread. Is there an actual link to a petition yet?
What is your point? Pro in the connotative sense is a relative term. If the top players all drop the game, then the next best are pro. So yeah, whoever is the top 0.1% that are still playing are the pros, whether they are the Japanese or not. This is true regardless of who continues to play.
I’m glad we have random posters like you with the clairvoyance to best predict the reactions of Japanese top players response to a console exclusive SF despite no apparent first hand experience or knowledge of the culture surrounding the Japanese fighting game scene. Please post more.
did you use sticks or controllers for sc4? I could see how that might make a difference.
Also do you think regular Japanese arcade-goers will keep playing SF4 on cabinet, but not SSF4 even if it has more than double what SF4 has along with balance tweaks? That’s pretty niched.
STOP WHINING! - Arnold Schwarzenegger.
WRONG. Capcom are making an unprecedented statement here. Arcades are synonimous with SF, and beyond that, Capcom are looked at as a leader of beat-em-ups. Other companies wll follow suit.
Oh, and youre wrong when you say America wont rule. At least, partially wrong. America will equal Japan simply because of this move. As I said previously, it’s the arcade scene that makes Jap players so good - same reason So Cal is so good. Take that away from them and theyre equal to everyone else.
