The pinout on the cabling is different. There are adapters for using euro cables snce they’re cheaper.
So its an adapter to allow the European cable to work for the Japanese console? Gotcha. Generally inexpensive for the whole package right?
This is a whole other rabbit hole you’re starting to head down…
Let’s dig the hole and refill it in one big swoop!
Where can I get this adapter?
Are there any problems with using it VS. just getting a a Japanese one?
Japanese 21 pin RGB cables (which look exactly like SCART but aren’t the same) don’t have the same pinout, so you basically have to pick between a Japanese RGB cable or SCART cable and get that type of cable for everything.
So we should strive to use the European cable with the converter on one end (im assuming the end on the console itself) for the sake of not screwing with everything else?
You got it.
like I’ve always read 97% of all scart cables are actually European scart not RGB21 and most scalers take that type of plug With the big exception being xrgb it is RGB21
Remember this for consoles Japan and US are all NTSC so the hardware are all the same just encryption locks for the software
Europe is were it gets all crazy their displays run at 50htz while we and Japan are 60htz so their systems are adjusted for that freq
I remember reading that Europe started after the states and Japan with the whole TV in homes thing so they improved with Version 2.0 and are are more efficient and of course the US never changed just like they never switch to metric and stayed with idiotic Inch.
Excellent. This thread has done more than serve its purpose. I guess at this point its only purpose is to get additional modders.
My SCART converter came in the mail today. Such a tease to have this damn thing without the console cables!
Alternative to modding old consoles
Credit goes to Undammed
So I replied to your other post suggesting that. I’ll post it ASAP.
Did you happen to check out the prices? Definitely a niche market for that device.
Yes I am familiar with the cost. But I do think that Video scaller device is more practical that destroying old Nintendo Play Choice 10 Boards for it’s PPU then modding an NES with it. Also the device will work with multiple consoles and inputs/ outputs also properly scale, rotate and de-interlace screens that a HDTV would probability choke on attempting.
Factor in the parts, material and labor cost of modding the NES alone will go into the hundreds.
And this is assuming the modder does the work for cheap ($100 and up for the labor).
Factor in the the fact that with a console mod you are risking permanent and unrepairable damage to the console which will add the cost to the project.
Cheapest Play Choice 10 board I found was $259. I am not talking about the Playchocie game boards, I speaking the main board where the PPU sits
http://www.classicarcadecabinets.com/2011/05/25/playchoice/
and old IMB PC with a Emulator would produce the same quality image a NES with a Play Choice 10 PPU would produce, with a larger list of compatible games.
Oh. That was just an NES suggestion?
This fucking second page, jesus christ
Get a US saturn. If you want to play imports, get the action replay 4m auto plus from play asia. Grab an ntsc rgb scart cable from This Seller. Don’t worry about japanese 21 pin connectors, you will never have to deal with that or get an adapter for that unless you buy an XRGB.
Guess what, she also has a premodded RGB n64 if you’re interested, and a US saturn! She also does RGB scart cabling for SNES and genesis consoles.
No. No.
No.
That is a scaler that can also do image rotating. That has nothing to do with removing the need to mod a console for RGB output - you still need to feed any scaler a good signal. Feeding the normal composite or rf from an nes or n64 is going to look like shit.
Be more patient. They can be had for under $100. I’ve bought two for $80 each in the past 12 months.
Do I need to make a little OP or something on rgb and using old consoles optimally on newer tvs, because I feel like the blind are leading the blind in this thread and are making an awful fucking mess.
Alright man. I made an “op” on this. So basically, buy that cable from the eBay seller I already link to and you’re fine? I can’t just write in “got a JP Saturn? Tough shit” I need to know if we can get RGB on it the same way as the American one.
Also, I know I’m the “blind” here but could you lay off the other guys? All the info up until the image rotater thingy was very solid (and we’re all human).
jp saturn and US are the same shit europe is the only one that is different I though I told you that like 2 hours ago?
all pin outs are the same us and japan are both ntsc
The other guy had me second guessing it with how he said to get a US one.
