Saw it at a premiere thanks to free tickets from my brother. Suffice to say I will be seeing it again, with my own money to boot, soon.
Due to the scale of the movie, I am tempted to see it in IMAX 3D. Did you happen to view it this way?

Same here, not a fan of 3D in films. but…DAT IMAX THO!
That’s what sucks about movies now. Either you have to see it in IMAX 3D or regular screening. If the 3D is coming at you, then great. It just seems that movies as of late feel more like looking out of a window than anything else.
I like the idea if all the major countries getting their own mechs with unique designs.

Just saw it tonight. Had to make sure I came here to talk about it. Not to spoil anything but Guillermo Del Toro gets it. Not necessarily about this little genre of movies but the man just gets film as a medium. He’s not about bullshit “quick cuts and handheld cam zooms” or convoluted story to mask shallowness. He knows how to focus on characters and build a movie off of an easily understood but powerful concept. Hopefully this movie does well in the box office. It deserves the praise and the money. Cats like to talk about the need for more original big pictures. Here’s one. Go support it.
Y’all should go see it if only because this video makes a great case why movies like Pacific Rim need to be seen.

If Gipsy Danger always had those blade why wouldn’t that always be the first weapon to be deployed? It rends Kaiju flesh like nothing. I guess that in it’s opening half losing battle it may not have had the swords yet but after that sheeeeit. Deploy swords always.

The actress who plays Mako is soooo pretty. And the little girl who played as her in the past OMG WAS SHE NOT THE CUTEST ASIAN KID EVER? My goodness that child’s cuteness could slay dragons.

I felt like the movie did a good job demonstrating how dangerous fighting Kaijus is. A lot of time in movies lately I don’t get a sense of the danger in what the heroes are doing. The Jaegers, despite how strong they were, felt like they had to be used right otherwise any Kaiju could take them down. If you didn’t win you were probably going to die. No second chances here.

Who else enjoyed the surprise of Otachi sprouting wings and not only fly but flying so high that Gipsy had to re-enter the earth’s atmosphere on the way down. It was a very cool scene and the audience I was with ooooed and awwwed at the whole thing. That shot of Gipsy being released would make a great background.

I enjoyed that Jaeger VS. Kaiju battles have a multi year history behind them before the movie starts. It gives Guillermo plenty of leway to farm out other media that could take place before this movie be it a game, book, comic, animation, whatever. Also…

I thought that Gipsy detonating at the end was kind of a cop out to stop the aliens. Though it gives Guillermo room to make a sequel if the chance ever occurs. I think it would be easy to just say the aliens found another way (like maybe from space this time) to attack Earth.

Pretty much everything you said and then some…saw it in IMAX 3D diff worth the ticket upgrade. I need toys and action figures for this movie.

So they mind meld to control the mechs…so why was the major was a clear “drift”? Also with the doctor with him getting some kaijus melding on i swore the guy was going to go native with them. The baby kaiju awww chomp!" Voltron moment with the sword. Also wanted the other mechs to shine but man Del Toro nailed this one baby!
Will this be in Imax without 3d? 3d and my eyes don’t mix very well.
Not sure if this movie will do well in the UK, when I booked my tickets I had no problem picking my seats because there were two seats already taken. Can’t remember the last time that happened, even Dredd was practically fully booked.
