Pacific Northwest Majors: Please Check: Important - June 28th at UW

I propose two caveats to DQing:

If someone notifies tournament organizers in advance that they may be off somewhere, they should not be DQ’d if they’ve agreed to be back by a certain time with the organizer and this time has not passed.

If someone can be contacted by phone within the allotted time, and, upon being informed that their match is up, can be there within a reasonable amount of time, they can go over the limit (but not by much, obviously, especially if there aren’t other matches that can run.)

That way you’re not keeping people from eating or whatever.

Physical threats seem to be a judgment call to me. If it’s not an actual serious threat and it’s obvious that it isn’t, there shouldn’t be a problem, but that should be up to the organizers to determine. Certainly if they pull a weapon or make moves to actually do something, then fuckin’ oust their ass.

Would it be too much of a problem to have all entrants put their cell number next to their registration name?

Just so you have a master list and all that. But really…it’s the entrants responsibility to be there on time. The tourney shouldn’t be held up cause somebody wanted to hit up McD’s in the middle of it.

Well yeah, but be practical: People’ve gotta eat, and aren’t going to always know exactly when their match will be run.

If we have that rule on the books, at least people will be encouraged to tell the organizers where they’re going, when they’ll get back, etc., and make sure it’s okay. That way it can be more organized.

Also: I’d be for the cell number thing, as it would make it easier to find people.

A lot of stuff will be up to the runners judgement. We will get people’s numbers, and call people to let them know when they are up. If someone calls to say they are on their way, then we will wait for them.

Holding up the tournies for food though won’t be something I would accept. It is going to be going for ten hours. If you can’t find a spare moment to eat something, then tough luck.

Unless your reaching the finals in every tourney back to back, you should have spare time.

Yeah, thats what I was thinking also. I don’t think it will even be a problem, but good to talk about it.

I said on the website to include a number with your paypal payment if you wanted, and so far two people have done it

shit, less than half the people put their name and handle, and that was required! People just don’t read instructions I guess

I have someone to help me with Reg. Brent! I will be willing to run all three registration times and also to relay all reg info to the proper people eh? I got this on lockdown lol.

Paullee you don’t know how much that helps out. That is going to make things so much easier.

Once I clean out my PM box, I will message you with the details of how we are doing sign ups at the registration table. Any ideas on how you might want to relay registration info to the tournament runners would help.

Thanks!

I think everyone who needs it already has my celly… also could I get an answer about if I could play a song over the PA system when ST is about to start?

So do we have to bring our own sticks for this or anything? Is anything of decent quality going to be available to just pick up and play on when we get there? Because, um… the only thing that pretends to be a DC arcade stick that I’ve ever owned is back in California sitting in Sirlin’s cube at work. I’m not making that up just to name drop.

Everyone needs to bring their own ish. Last thing we need is to have people bitch at the organizers because the sticks were shitty.

Yeah, like Pablo said, that’s pretty much the case. We will have a few sticks for use (Thanks to SpicyCurryBread, and one other person) if people really need them, but otherwise, we aren’t responsible for supplying sticks. You will need to borrow someone’s, or hope that the 3 or 4 we have are available when you play.

Although we aren’t allowed to have official vendors, if you have a few extra bucks, you may want to talk to stick makers like Kuenai, SpicyCurryBread, or someone else to see if they could hook you up with something within the week. You may be suprised at what they can do in this short a time. You could pick it up day of.

I know there will be lots of stuff going on at once, but when your game and bracket are in progress, DONT FUCKING LEAVE. This should be common sense, but a lot of people feel the need to wander off when they really should be ready for their matches to take place. Communicate with your tournament director. My time is money, I would gladly take a DQ victory because some dumb ass felt the need to be disrespectful and not pay attention to their respective director. Bring a sack lunch, packs of nicorette gum, a flask, whatever it takes not waste my fucking time.

I will have a stick that stays on my person at all times (NO, YOU MAY NOT USE IT), and a second “loaner” sanwa stick that I will lend to people that I know personally (i.e., anyone from Seattle or Portland that I know via gaming…), a third SFAC stick modded with happs, and then a generic American that has a happ super, the last two anyone can use, but I WILL personally hunt you down if I don’t get my sticks back…

edit: How many convertors will there be?

My utmost concerns for this event are as follows…

-People bring what they promised. (hardware, games, etc.)
-We finish on time.
-People enjoy themselves.

I hope this event can excite people. After all, hella new fighting games are coming out this year and Seattle has to represent.

My cell is (206) 446-5523, if you wanna put that on the registration list.
But I think I’ll be around for my matches.

We should really have as many stations as possible and have as many games going at once. Only give big screen projector time to matches that are very high profile. I would do Grand Finals only if it were my choice.

Instead of trying to be on schedule, why not try to be ahead of schedule?

By doing this, there’s more time for people to play casuals/money matches/eat/drink/whatever.

For 3rd Strike, or any other game that has many entrants, there should be 6-8 stations instead of 3-4 stations, which is what I’m assuming every game will have.

Thoughts?

Grant. Thanks for the number.

The plan is to have at least 6 set-ups for each game. The first three games being played will have less. Tekken says they can for sure run 30 people through in 3 hours on 2-3 set-ups. VF5 probably won’t need more than 2 (thats all the X-Boxs we have). CVS2 will probably need more.

I am going to talk to a friend who is taking summer classes. He may be able to check out a projector for us so we don’t have to use the super expensive one in the ceiling. I’ll try a last ditch effort at work to get it for free, but its not likely.

Most of you guys haven’t seen the screen, but it is huge. We talked it over, and agreed it would be cool to have matches going up on the screen throughout the entire tournament. Just leave it hooked up to a one set-up and then tournament matches people really want to see can go up. If we have to pay for the projector, than that is happening for sure. We are getting our moneys worth.

I can bring at least one tv, also.

I was looking at the 1st post and noticed this:

Fund Raising:

  • ST tournament entry fee (if everyone keeps agreeing to this)

Does this mean ST won’t have a prize? Who would agree to this?

One of the best things that could be done is just have everyone pay a $5 venue fee whether they signed up online or not. It’s just $5. At EVO it’s a $30 venue fee.

As an organizer you’re doing the NW a huge favor. Events like this shouldn’t come out of anybody’s own pocket.
