RE: HQ paying for peoples’ parts
Fuck that noise. It’s your equipment, you pay for it. Last time I checked, hockey arenas don’t hand money out if someone breaks their stick. HQ (Johnny) is already providing a huge service by making orders on everyone’s behalf.
Buying parts for dedicated HQ sticks is a much better way to spend the money: The sticks are guaranteed to be at HQ every night, and players who might feel awkward borrowing from someone don’t have to worry about using them.
Last time I checked hockey arenas weren’t co-ops.
This is a co-op. Profit and improvement should be second to sustaining. Technically those parts already belong to the community and they should not be sold back. Or like James said they should be sold heavily discounted - this is my opinion. One issue here though is how do we determine the opinion of the majority?
If you want to talk about improvement talk about upgrading the games on all the systems. Free improvement. Also talk about paying to play games that weren’t upgraded and then being cut short - yes I was more than slightly bitter about this. More about the systems not being upgraded. It’s been a while since the new games been out and we are still sitting there with 2-3 systems that weren’t upgraded. People came out to play and practice before the $20 tournament and we’re sitting there being cut very short and also playing on old games.
Anyway, enough of my side rant. We’ve no formal way of deciding how the money is spent. Can we get ideas on this? Asking in srk and getting feedback doesnt seem to be cutting it…
If anyone has ideas about a better way to spend the money please so say because frankly all I ever hear is bitching after the fact. If people don’t come forward with ideas we’ll either have money rotting like we did leading up to getting the sticks or we’ll have to act in what we think are the best interests of the community since no one tells us shit.
Based on the feedback we DO have however I’m inclined to agree that we should find a way to sell the extra parts for a huge discount (e.g. $1.50 buttons? Less than half of cost). Let me know your thoughts people.
Gwalio - yeah the tournament was annoying in that we only had 1 2012 station. A nasty oversight since HQ had been closed since before it had been released. This was addressed before we reopened again after that (yay weather). I could write a short novel about why I have no desire to run another tournament out of HQ though and frankly that issue wouldn’t even make it near the top of the list. It also doesn’t help that our sponsor has no intention with actually providing us copies of umvc3 - maybe this would be a good point to spend HQ money on next now that we know this.
This is something that we already have covered actually.
Seeing as how Ottawa isn’t very hungry when it comes to leveling up or winning, the money should just go towards building, maintaining, and improving the quality of HQ as a whole and not to individuals. Use the money for extra games, more/better equipment, chairs, drinks, recording equipment, and hookers.
I’m pretty sure he’s actually talking about last Friday, before the GO tournament. Several of the consoles weren’t updated at the time. Johnny needed to sleep, and naturally I don’t have his account password, so I couldn’t do much about it. We were also cut an hour short by GO coming to pick up their xboxes.
We definitely should have gotten the consoles updated earlier. Just everyone please be aware that updating often wasn’t a five minute deal. For some reason the Gaming Ottawa accounts can’t connect to xbl (I don’t know the details why), so each xbox had to have Johnny’s account logged on, and in some cases it was a long process, because the internet down in HQ isn’t exactly blazing, and on more than one occasion we encountered some bugs with the update process. Excuses aside, you’re right, we should have made sure it was all done before Friday.
As for being cut short- there’s nothing we could do about that. GO owns all the black xboxes and the evo monitors. We don’t have the funds to purchase that much equipment ourselves. GO needed them for the tournament, and honestly, waiting until midnight to come get them was reasonable of them. They could’ve demanded them the previous afternoon, and there would’ve been nothing we could do.
On the money situation as a whole, here’s the deal. If you want buttons at discount, then HQ loses money on them. Okay, that’s fine. We’re here for your benefit after all. But if we do things that way (and I mean in general, not just specifically with the buttons) then we don’t make a profit. If we don’t make a profit, we don’t buy new equipment. We won’t ever own those xboxes at our stations. When things break, we’ll have difficulty replacing them, or have to depend on organizations like GO to help us. I’m not saying one way is better or worse, but there are consequences to both.
When I say “profit”, everyone understands that the money goes to HQ, right? It really is just another way to pool money.
It’s the same idea with the drinks. We buy drinks with HQ money, sell them and get HQ more money so we can get more/nicer/better things. HQ definitely has a lot of needs as well. We still only have one copy of UMVC and that isn’t even HQ’s, it’s mine (which someone slashed up the box for it).
Everyone on fucking blast.
you’re right johnny. i just think people having cheap, easy access to buttons etc to fix their sticks is worth it to the community to eat the fairly small costs. i just typed up a whole thing about the hq budget spreadsheet but realized it doesn’t have info past the first week of january. either way, from the looks of that info, hq should have enough in the bank and continue to be profitable enough to subsidize parts. even if it’s gotta be like regulated so we aren’t just giving cheap buttons to randoms. and thank you johnny and logan for running hq, i hope you don’t see our discussions as whining. and thank you for making the budget spreadsheet available
Wait what? This isn’t correct… everything was updated before the last time I was at HQ and that was the week before the GO tournament… or am I insane? Johnny and I went balls out to get things updated after the bullshit with the HQ tourney.
We were closed the week after that, it should have info for the following week , and after that I haven’t been involved. Johnny and Devin should have the data to update it but generally it’ll lag behind by a week or two.
I would love to see this happen. Partly cause im a broke nigga
Is there no way to just quickly make an HQ account with no password or something? I mean, all it would need to do is download 2012, patches, etc. and those are all free. Im just thinking out loud though since I have no clue how profiles are managed on Xboxes.
There were definitely at least two that weren’t updated to 2012. One was Johnny’s xbox, the other was one of the black ones.
has to have a password and has to have a valid email - we’re just going to use Johnnys, especially now that everything is updated.
Speaking of buying stuff, anyone picked up SC5 yet? Thinkin of picking it up sometime this week.
Is there anything else HQ funds are used for besides more copies of games, buttons, and sticks?
picking it up first thing tomorrow, cant wait to play Hilde
I like the idea of the 1.50 buttons or something similar. Something to give back to the pool but still provide something cheap to continue.
And yes I was talking about last Friday. We ended up with 2 systems that night that were upgraded. By the time we found them GO heads came and gave us the boot - I realize that was not in your control.
Any way to update games of usb key?
edit: and it was cut short by like 2 hours? maybe i recall wrong. i remember it being around midnight and usually runs til 2 on friday… anyway this wasnt meant to be my main point it just added to the frustration of not having updated games…
Yeah I hear you, it should be taken care of now at least :S. As for the updating - no, it must be done while connected to xbox live sadly.
Anyone check out Poongko vs Gauts? Got-daaaamn!!!
Troll. Also I’ll beast you at the game
