I hear new people play AE. If this is true I’ll be at HQ Thursday.
You got it right.
Good times yesterday. I should stop playing this game more often, as it apparently causes me to beast when I return.
Would people be interested in a PS360+ preorder from Akishop when it becomes available? I was thinking of using HQ money again to grab a couple and sell them as parts (like the buttons and stick).
hqq should sell everything at a heavily discounted price. if it’s community money that’s buying the parts, seems odd that we should still be paying full price for them imo. looks like people plan to continue frequenting hq anyway, so there shouldn’t be a problem replenishing stock of buttons etc.
thought you were yang for a second and i was so mindfucked you were posting something intelligent
jkyangyouknowweloveyou
Don’t worry, it wasn’t intelligent at all.
I have no idea why you’re mentioning this now instead of when I posted the price on the first page of this thread. I figured since no one disagreed, everyone was cool with it. Regardless, I’ll repeat it here.
Now, I’ve explained to some people about the idea behind the pricing but I don’t think I’ve made a post about it. So here goes.
The prices I’ve come up are already discounted in that it’s the American Mad Catz store prices without tax and shipping. They are the cheapest parts you’ll find anywhere without having to buy over 100+ of each part and even then, there’s no way to dodge tax on an order that large. So it’s the best price anyone in Ottawa (or actually, all of Canada) will ever get.
To be completely honest, we could go cheaper on the prices of the parts but the idea of HQ is to be self-sustaining. With that in mind, I set the prices the way they are now so that HQ can see a net profit from parts sale. All the profits go straight to HQ and stays at HQ (only 40% of the entry fee/memberships goes to rent now and I don’t get paid for doing all this shit). It’s a new revenue stream and hopefully, we’ll be able to leverage it to get money quicker. Mo’ money, mo’ [S]problems[/S] stuff for HQ.
Also, think of it this way. Not every community member is ever going to buy parts but they’ve contributed to HQ and that’s allowed us to buy these parts. Pad players and people who don’t own sticks would never be able to take advantage of cheap parts. Would be it fair to those people to essentially subsidize something that they’ll never use?
That said, everything is still touch-and-go right now. I don’t know where the line of perfect balance is and I don’t think I’ll find it anytime soon. No one else has ever run anything on this kind of scale before so it’s still a giant experiment. I’ve thought about a lot of things over the course of HQ and I always try and make the most logical and fair decision possible. If there’s a large dissenting opinion or someone suggests a better idea, I’m definitely all ears.
Yes, it is 5:30AM. I’m sick. Back to bed for me.
isn’t hq self-sustaining just because people continue coming out and paying money? our goal is not (should not be) to maximize profit, or that’s not how i understood it when hqq started anyway. hqq is there because it was the best and only place for us to host regular gatherings, and we don’t mind paying for the privilege. the parts might be the cheapest in canada, but since we’ve all already paid for them by frequenting hq, they aren’t really that cheap. and no, i don’t think the few select pad players will mind too much…if their shit is working perfectly, what are they going to say? “johnny i would like to file a complaint with hq. my controller works perfectly and that guys stick got fixed at less than cost.” part of playing a pad is that it’s cheaper, so when it breaks you can go buy a new one easily. Lastly, when you buy a TE stick here, unless you are scum like masablade, you’re probably bringing it out to hq and allowing everyone to use it. everybody’s using/abusing the sticks, which is perfectly fine, but when it comes time to repair them i think hq should definitely be subsidizing the cost, to what extent i’m not sure.
Science. And math.
James magneto and his opinion stinks
I have to agree with James here, masablade is a scumbag.
But seriously, only a handful of people actually bring sticks out , for whatever reason the rest don’t (psfree, poverty (now seriously you see how broke James and I are?)) and our sticks get used as much if not more so than the hq provided sticks. Youre looking for financial return, but making hq and the community better isn’t just about that. No one is going to buy a ton of parts just to rip hq off,it just won’t happen in a community this small and even then we’d know not to deal with that person again.
On that note, rest of hqq scrubs need to start commenting on this sort of stuff. This is a community effort and if y’all want a place to play games that’s run by the community to level up the community you need to start voicing your opinion. It can’t always be just me,James ,Johnny and Logan arguing over semantics of how hqq should be run, especially since both James and I hardly come out for games anymore.
Sure, that’s fine if HQ is never going to improve. It depends on how you want to look at the term self-sustaining I suppose - if the goal was solely to break even then I don’t think this would even be a discussion, but we’re selling drinks, parts, providing sticks for people to use, and trying to secure games, as well as running tournaments. The goal is for HQ to turn a profit and continue to get better, otherwise we’d still be sitting in a basement with 2 CRTs, no copies of games, no chairs, no fans, no AC, no sticks, no dedicated consoles, etc… HQ might be a dank shithole of a location but it has improved dramatically over the past 7 months.
I do like the idea of using the HQ parts to heavily subsidize replacements for people who bring sticks however that comes with several caveats:
- Do we just give out parts to anyone who needs a replacement? Where do we draw the line?
- Would the money spent on this be better used elsewhere? Parts aren’t overly expensive but the price adds up quickly.
- Should we focus on repairs for the HQ equipment first or for sticks of people in the community?
Hell in a perfect world I’d want built-in 2 player control panels (think arcade style) for every single station so people wouldn’t even need to bring sticks but it isn’t practical.
If HQ money should be spent in other ways then people (e.g. you) should speak up about it. We got next to no feedback whatsoever apart from a handful of people saying “good stuff”, if there are problems/concerns then voice them BEFORE when we’re (now Johnny) looking for feedback.
To echo what Dev said the bottom line here really is that Johnny, Devin, and I get fuck all out of running this except somewhere to play some games with people so we’re trying to make it the best it can possibly be. If we don’t have people giving us ideas or feedback when we ask for it we’re sort of stuck acting on our own.
tokido sais: suck the t33t of knowl3dg3
also, i’m trolling, also, please give jon more money so i can get more based when i’m in ottawa, #eyeOfAgamoMoney
also, my bolts have double piercing power #where’dmylifego?
I think we’re overthinking all of this. HQ is a place to chill, play games and get salty.
That is all.
Picture this scene, cats: Clocktower pub. Everyone getting toasty over some brews. EVO series tournament top 8s on the big screens.
