Ono has interest in working with Street Fighter Alpha series again

Put anime back into my SF.

Revive Alpha.

Alpha is the SF game with the most personality by far.

3 had a fair bit of personality.

I like the interview with BAS on the CC site:

Please change thread name to : “Ono has interest in molesting another sf while smiling”. Thanks!

This!

The SF alpha games didn’t have the best gameplay of other games but it felt like
like how the SF universe should be …story and graphics and all

Or Gems (not that anyone relies on them, but the random flashes are annoying)…or the whole 1-super thing (Taking away tools is NOT making it deeper: it’s limiting options! Everybody should have been given the ability to manually execute the attack the lead character uses when you do a team super. Ryu with SF 3 Final’s Kaze No Ken? Hell fuck yes)…or the limited cast thing (admit it: you all wanted to see Law vs Fei Long)…every damn character from ssf4 should have been in this game (because thats basically what it is: sf4 vs tekken), and the Tekken cast increased to match. It’s obvious this was just thrown together hastily like mvc2…only it has WAY more balance.

I will say this: Alpha 3 had one of the best announcers ever. Perfect fusion of Engrish and hype.

i’d rather have no game than anything resembling Alpha3…

Alpha2 was a very solid game with a perfect mix of traditional and modern fighting game elements, godlike music/stages/presentation… only to be raped to hell by A3 marvel gimmicks (air recoveries, retarded V-ISM juggles, air throws for everyone, even OTGs and pushblock for some characters!!). not one hitbox was left untouched, everything felt so weird/wrong… normals wiffing for no reason, expected anti-airs normals not working as they should… come to think about it: A3 was to Alpha2 what SFxT is to SF4

the best re-release would be Alpha2 with A3 Double Upper cast… or straight up Hyper Street Fighter Alpha… at least everyone is represented there

I won’t lie, I’m not the largest Alpha Fan but at least the story was somewhat interesting. SF2 had a barebones story, SF3’s had had a ton of plotholes and SF4’s looked like the story would be complicated and deep but upon playing it, you realized the story barely made sense.

Can we get awesome hand drawn HD ultra smooth sprites?
Otherwise what would make it different (visually) from the SF4-series
Basically saying it needs a new look.
SF4 to SF x Tk the models are the same - time for something fresh.
New mechanics or improve upon old ones
focus on CORE mechanics. I’d rather have 2-3 solid mechanics than 5-6 that are half assed.
I like the idea of ISMs but focus on what/how they’d make the character different.
Say maybe one ISM is like SF4s Super bar
while another ISM is like SF3s Super bar
One may lend itself to a more offensive tactic while another is defensive. depending on the match up would dictate the one you pick.
Just throwing it out there.
All in all I’m always up for a new Street Fighter, I’m looking forward to Darkstalkers 4 right now though.

I’m guessing another version of Alpha 3 is in the works. Or just Alpha 4 that looks shockingly like the last version Alpha 3 but with either new sprites (they could get a 3rd party to do them, like that chick who worked on Skull Girls and that guy who did Scott Pilgrim) or like Jed Possum said include 3S sprites.

I could see the whole thing as an experiment to go back to no comeback mechanics and input shortcuts and see if it would sell or not. Whatever happens would determine what direction SF5 takes.

She contributed a lot more she was there during the early years raising sf2.

Edit:
Louis the CFJ sprites are like Yun in cvs2 not the 3s sprites.

I thought they could take the 3S sprites and cut frames of animation and maybe apply a filter so they don’t look as jarring compared to the Alpha sprites?

If they go with sprites, they should outsource SNK to develop the art direction and graphics. KOF13 was a very nice looking 2-D game. But I won’t hold my breath, it’ll most likely be the SF4 engine again.

I would have preferred Capcom to revist PowerStone, flooding the market with these types of fighters probably isn’t in their best interest.

Just do what they should have done with HDR and do what SkullGirls did, then I’ll be happy.

Ono needs to tone down on his humour, over the top style, nothing personally just I don’t like the whole everybody has to be happy, and everything needs to be bright, and OTT character design. The only reason why you can’t hit people after you KO them in SF4 was because he didn’t want people to have their feelings hurt when they lost. But since the “lost connection with player” spawned it’s own meme I don’t think feelings matter any more.

I hope they keep the anime look but go for a (hate to say it grittier) look, just look at Animated Movie. It was still anime but it was dark, violent enough without turning into MK.

And please do not recreate a comeback mechanic like the revenge meter. Stop handling newbies with gloves.

On a positive note, SF4 series is a great for spectators, that’s the only aspect of the series I’ve enjoyed since vanilla.

See, I don’t get the impression that Ono is any kind of decider or creative force in SF4 and Strekken. Seems like he’s more of a PR guy who runs ideas through corporate and try to come to a middle ground. It’s hard to say what exactly he does because Japanese game development is so different from Western development but that’s the impression I get. The fact that he doesn’t answer questions directly, does a ton of posturing and PR stunts, and there’s been no real evidence to show what he specifically contributes to the design of the games say’s a lot. Not to mention making an ass of himself in a Blanka costume.

I don’t hate the guy but I really doubt he has much in the way of power at Capcom Japan.

Ono IIRC is always talking about the battle director or someone else being the one who makes gameplay decisions. I too, doubt he has as much influence in gameplay as say, Harada.

I always feel he acts more like a manager than a producer. If you look at his background before the SF4 series he was mostly a music composer and a sound director. He isn’t a programmer like most people in his position should be.

A programmer won’t necessarily be a better producer/designer than a sound dude.

I thought Ono was just supposed to get people excited so that Capcom will agree its worth their money and later be one of the guys who tries to make sure that every stays on schedule and within budget.

I dunno, those Skullgirls sprites never really appealed to me. That whole game’s visual style seemed weird to me.
