unless when you say purposely neglect you mean they direct funds towards stuff that makes a sizable return and has a future to continue building on.
in which case yes absolutely.
they’re just moving things along as they always have. at every iteration they lose some players and gain some. they try to make decisions so the net total is greater than what it was last iteration. some people will lose interest. fair enough. capcom cannot please everyone. those games you mentioned aren’t going anywhere. no one is forcing anything except the community itself.
But he wasn’t providing a business minded aspect. He seems to speaking in favor of posterity. These games have something more to offer than entertainment. He notices it.

There are various truths at play and no one is willing to admit to any of it. Until there exists a responsible party and not just a culpable party, we won’t have anything to really discuss but the facts we’ve been provided. Third party speculation is as worthless as an opinion.

people would’ve moved to SF4 no matter how it was designed, so long as it wasn’t clearly awful. there’s a clear line of SF games where the new ones kills the competitive community for the old one. nothing new there. HF players are still complaining about SSF2. it’s just expected.
I don’t think Capcom could’ve done much to help 3s. they did try, they just had some missteps that come from unfamiliarity. getting Floe to make some trials that ended up mostly being useless, the promise of arcade perfect, what they chose to spend development time on, I think these are mostly things where they just didn’t know the community that well. but things could’ve been much worse - they avoided a couple potential big missteps. if you remember a lot of people were asking for a rebalance and they had the sense to say no.
if you’re throwing around blame, you have to throw some at the American community too - the initial response to OE was really ugly for months. over time people have decided it’s a good port and pretty good on things that matter. but in the first few months when all these potential new players were excited, all they saw was that it wasn’t arcade perfect, Derek Neal is a faggot, the great players aren’t even going to bother with it. that’s not really the attitude you present if you want to attract new players. why start playing 3s when no one plays it in tournaments, and the good players just told you they’re not going to show up even if you do? I think there could’ve been a compromise reached. “we will play on this less than perfect port if you let us bring CRTs for our tournaments, and if you run OE tournaments we will show up every week.”
all that said, 3s is still in better shape than most old fighting games. still active in Japan, still scenes throughout Europe, still people scattered around the US who are interested and want to play. only ST really rivals it in the US. every other old game is deader than dirt.

I mean… TBH, I was hype about it… and I was excited enough that I stopped playing for a while… But lately, I’ve been craving 3S, so I went into training mode yesterday and my execution from not having done things made me fail on a lot of basic shit. I’m not even talking about combos… Let’s not get into that, but post lpsrk demon flip setups… I was fucking up the srk motions…
Needless to say, that demotivated me from playing. This whole nonsense, and I could have just been playing and dealing with it. Now I’m just a sad motherfucker.
I haven’t played the game in damn near 2 years. Came online just out of curiosity to see if they released the patch…

While they’re at it they should fix the match up screen freeze. I hate booting up the game just to find out that it keeps freezing at the match up screen -.-. How am I supposed to get better and beat my friend’s Hugo when this keeps happening?
