has anybody found anything to make use of rolling thunder? i know jHK -> RT and jHP -> RT work, but is that it? i like this ultras damage, but it seems corkscrew cross is the superior ultra

If you aren’t using corkscrew cross theres a problem. There are so many options to get into it. From high and low attacks… hit confirms… yeah… RT sucks.

A Little tip to help with c.hk x 3 since i know some people are having problems.

C.hk > forward > df+hk > down > c.hk double tap down.

I dont think RT sucks, imo its going to be used in some matchups

maybe certain fireball characters… but thats about the usefulness i see it as.

Also another tip for helping with c.hk times 3

plinked c.hk > pause > plinked c.hk > IMMEDIATE plinked c.hk

The triple sweep combo is weird because you have to hit the second sweep meaty so you recover more quickly. Once I realized that #2 and #3 aren’t a steady rhythm that helped a lot.

Fortunately this is one combo that isn’t punishable if you mess up.

yes yes, i know corkscrew cross has the options. i was just curious if RT was as useless as it was in SF3 or not

AKA 90% of his bad matchups.
His Dash Ultra has more range than Rog’s which greatly benefits him in matches where he just CANNOT get in to do damage.
I can do it from pretty much full screen and not have to worry about the Ultra dropping off at the end.
And it is insanely easier to utilize.
Agreed that RT is worthless against the rest of his matches though.

Why do you have a hard time getting in on fireball characters? Every fireball including sagat’s low tiger shot you can get in using ducking in a smart manner…

I’m thinking more along the lines of Sim/Seth/Akuma who are very hard to close the gap on consistently and need a little more than ‘smart ducking’ to approach, but regardless, why would I use an Ultra that gets tacked on as a combo ender in that matchup when I can threaten fireball characters with ~50% damage for trying to zone me out? I can use ducking and other means to close distance for mixup and pressure opportunities no matter what, but the Ultra is so that the opponent doesn’t even want to keep you out to put you in that position.

I mean, if you can make it work with U2 all the way, go for it.
I have just personally found great usage in U1 in certain matches that seemed hair-pulling before.

If Ryu is throwing out cr.mk you can beat it with your cr.hk around half the time. Then if it wins or trades you can follow up with hp MGB for a juggle. In the corner you get super after the MGB.

Rolling Thunder is wonderful for the extra range it has over Ducking Straight/Upper.

I think it’s a great choice for a lot of matchups, most notably Chun, I think.

Of course Corkscrew Cross is always amazing…

It has been said, and i explained above the best methods to getting it down. Plinking has the highest consistency.
