Old school vs newcomers

I really like this post

Me Being a MVC 2 vet so to speak had to comment on what I’ve from vets to the newcomers. Vets well play the same even they pick the lowest tiers on the list, the frustration coming from this thread on vets is that the competition isn’t that great because of the rooms are either filled with newcomers or people who moderately good. I’m sure Capcom already will have a system in place to place all Vets in certain class very soon Just be patient.

The comment made about newcomers not able to learn from Vets is bullshit, I learned the most from getting my ass kicked and learning how they did, so next time I could do that too  or avoid getting beat that bad the next time. Capcom really need to put newcomers in class too so newcomers can learn from each other and then move to Vet Class or whatever.

I did have one idea to fix this, it’s alittle better than SF4 G1 crap, it shouldn’t be how many hours to put in to move up it, it has to be some criteria like if your new and beat like 12 vets in a different class and maybe 5 in another class you should be able to move up that makes the games more close and helluva fun to watch too:cool:

Named Rooms

Seriously… if they just let us name our own rooms… admin them… ect…

Then noobs could just make a room called “Noobs”… and you guys could play each other all day long while we avoid that room like the plague…

How hard would it be…

Where do you live that people aren’t total assholes? I mean, not disagreeing, agreeing, or anything other than being completely amazed that you would think internet + people doesn’t equal “stroke the epeen.”

I mean, do you even read posts at THIS website?

Oh, and to the people who are laughing this shit up, you DO realize this is why the Japanese tend to be better at gaming then we are, and you DO realize that this is why you big fish get stomped once you walk out of your little pond, right?

I don’t have any sympathy for people who expect competitive environments to be nice (or even non-total assholes), but the people the poster is referencing are pretty much worthless morons… which last I checked is worse than being “bad at a video game.”

Play 2 Win. End of story.

Seriously though some people have been playing this game for 9 years. Obviously they are going to rape you upside down. But maybe instead of complaining and bitching about how people are assholes because they put in a huge amount of time and dedication into actually learning the game maybe you could try this little attribute called “humility”. Instead of ragequit/hatemail, send a GG message instead. Ask for some tips or advice to improve.

Give respect where its due, and quit whining.

the truth hurts. the game is broken and ridiculous, and people cant accept that and hate. ive got 10 mails from people when i win in the lobby. its terrible.

if people who just understand that this game is gay in its own crazy way, people wouldnt get so angry.

OK, time to hear myself talk. I’ll make it quick. If you’re gonna spam God Tier against a room full of scrubs, at least let it be in Ranked Matches and not Player Matches. Don’t know how any newcomer can learn tactics and strategies while knocked around in an infinite. I’m not complaining. I’ve taken my bruises. But I cant stand the elitism and poor attitudes online now and again. Won’t let a few bad apples spoil the bunch but I can see how other noobs would want to throw a controller through a TV after spectating 3 - 4 fights only to get KO’ed after 40 seconds.

learn to block and how to properly jump, when to jump, how to zone with and while managing your assist. learn combos. learn how to properly use your team/assist.

if getting your ass beat isnt your motivation in this game to get better then you shouldnt be playing at all.

I’m a newcomer. Before i started this game I realized that I needed a place that will help me get good. Since coming to SRK (made an account since 2008 but never touched it) I’ve only been surrounded by people that want to improve.

My point is, if you cared enough to get good, you would seek as much help as possible. That’s the way I see it at least. If you worked hard to become a beast, you should be able to beast it out whenever you want… hehe :shy:

I like this thread

Come to me after losing 47 matches in a row like that in a hotel room at evo to a few guys you know and two people you had never seen in your life until that day. You’d be surpised how much you can learn while losing.

Also, what OJ4 said times a thousand.

A big fuck you to anyone who thinks I shouldn’t play to my fullest just because they don’t share the same passions for it as me or because they don’t think it makes them better.

You’re going to get raped until you get better, get over it.

If anybody’s honestly tired of spectating, then they should play in smaller rooms.

I’m not calling anyone out to play beneath their skill levels but I gotta ask why out of 56 characters, the same 5 - 6 characters are used over and over. Kinda kills the experimentation phase but as some others said, this game’s been out forever and the great players know the intricacies of the game and have mastered it. Casual gamers need to just deal with it. So be it. I feel like I’m trying to socialize medicine over here you angry mob. :wgrin:

For those new players that don’t give a shit about putting the same dedication other people did for years, how about instead of bitching just make friends with other new players online and play exclusively with them.

Of course, if you only settle for mediocrity, you’ll find yourself enjoying the game less and less no matter who you play with.

I knew there would be way more pansies online when this game arrived for 360/PS3 than other online games.

And there are a lot of usable teams available, they just have a much harder time than MSP, Matrix, etc. It’s the same for any fighting–hell, any GAME, period. There will always be several dominating characters/strategies that outclass the rest. If you can’t accept that, then don’t play. The rest of us will continue having fun playing whatever teams we choose and advanced levels of skill (and if that means Santhrax VS MSP in tournaments then so be it, not any different from any other game).

By the way, people online will continue to ragequit regardless of the teams used. People RQ’d against me less often when I used SANTHRAX than when I would use teams not as good (including characters like BBH, Rogue, etc.).

I agree with you for the most part here. When I get the game, if I want to practice Mag/Sent/Psy…fuck you, I’m doing it. I could honestly care less what someone who doesn’t wish to take a beating (like we all did) thinks about what is “fair”. To be clear, I am not insinuating that Marvel is some frat-like cabal of players who initiate each other, but rather I don’t care because the “nuisance” players who cry “bullshit” at tactics in a game that has been played at a competitative level for 10 year will cease to be sooner or later.

I do not want my point to devolve into “the community has changed” post, but my point is that, since SFIV, a lot of people are getting into fighting games for the first time (or getting into them again after a long hiatus). I would like to propose that a fair amount of these people are the type of person who generally gets any hyped game, plays it online for awhile, and then moves on to the next thing. To a lot of people “owning” online is all that matters, and if they cannot, they cry HACKZ and stop playing.

Soon, the pool of “new” people coming to MVC2 will thin out. Maybe a few will stick around, but I doubt that the masses that actually purchased this game for the first time (or first played it when they were 5…because the game has been out for 10 fucking years) will actually put in the time an dedication that it takes to play on a reasonable level. The sad thing is, it took us a LONG time to get here from day 1, and they could do it in a marginal amount of time due to the fact that we have all of the ins and outs of the game archived for them to read and learn. Oh well…

I honestly cannot wait until Thursday to experience something that I have wanted for 10 years, and If I want to break your face open with what you deem as “cheap” tactics, by all means Rage Quit on me. If you play me again, I will do the exact same thing. If you fail to come to the game with an open mind and admit that you are ignorant to pretty much everything that has gone on in the world of marvel up until now, we do not need you playing. MVC2 is not the next Smash Brothers and rules do not need to be pulled out of thin air nor do any characters need to be banned. If you come in thinking you know how to “fix” marvel, please realize that you really don’t know jack shit.

Sorry…went off there. Please realize that I am not calling anyone out in this thread, but just making a general statement regarding my feelings on the subject of this thread.

I’m a newcomer to this game, for the most part. I’m 21 and the first time I played it I was 11. Time sure has passed and the competition has definately went up.

If you are new to this game and get your ass handed to you. Why bitch? Instead take notes, ask questions, make friends with better players.

As much as this board seems ‘elitist’, they really aren’t and 95% of them are willing to help you with whatever you ask for.

You can’t just lower everyone’s bar because you can’t play. Hell, I can barely play and I’m getting the hang of the magic series. I get my ass handed to me and I just want to learn more, get better. And trust me, I feel super cool when I combo a top-tier guy with Ken…

Just get better, that’s all anyone can do. I’m willing to play with mediocre players who are new like me. I’m also willing to take a beating from some top guys in order to make myself better.

If you want to bitch about people being better than you…seriously. Quit while you are ahead because you’ll never be any good.

No need to quit. if you quit you can’t watch the next few fights and figure out a pattern… don’t be so sour.

Just get better. That’s what all the people who actually like this game are trying to do. When the new players thin out I’ll still be here, trying to get better. Just like HD Remix.

I’m personally practicing whoever I feel comfortable with, getting my ass bent over every other direction.

I’ll learn if I really want to get good at this game. That’s the main point. Seriously.

And I don’t think i’m doing too bad with Gambit/Ken/Sentinel.

Either quit or get better. That’s what us players who really want to get better are doing.

Just welcome me to the SRK community because I’m here to stay as long as I don’t accidently break any rules. I just want to have mad skills in fighting games like I used to think I had…

I’m giving an open invite to all top-players to come whip my ass without a rage quit. Just have a mic and be ready to answer some questions.

Dude, I’ve cleared random rooms with Morrigan/Akuma/Sonson, so this thread has no validity what so ever.

Your tears are delicious.

^ What the hell are you talking about? Your post had no validity what so ever…

He’s right, though. The kind of people that get flattened by top tier in 30 seconds are also going to get flattened by a good player’s joke team in 30 seconds. I’ve had more rage quits on Omega Red than Magneto.

The main thing new/casual players don’t get about this game is that it isn’t the characters you pick. It’s the TEAM you pick. It doesn’t matter who is on your team as long as the TEAM makes sense. You need damage sources, DHCs, safe exits for characters, some gimmicks, and most of all a plan. The thousands of people online right now playing Hayato/Guile/Iceman aren’t going to magically get better at the game if we all start throwing low tier at them. They’re still going to be playing the same game they’re playing, they’re still going to lose, and we’ll still be playing an utterly different game.

If all those people had your attitude, which is a great one, then the characters themselves wouldn’t matter, and this issue is moot.

This comment alone tells me with certainty that you are a bad player.

The people that are being scared out of the lobbies are bad for the community anyway. The faster you cans end them back to Halo the better.

Few people will stick around, because the proper competetive spirit does not exist in most video game users. You are wasing your time if you think there is a potential top player hiding underneath that blubber.
