Old school vs newcomers

As a new player I must say I love this game. And I fully expect to get stomped routinely as I am a new player.

I’m putting in the effort to get better however and I do not just ragequit when I lose.

MONEY SHOT. Hit that shit on the head!

Honestly to newcomers you can rape with a low tier team, especially one that exploits glitches… like Tronne, Ken, Juggs. New players picking top tier doesn’t really matter cause unless you know what you’re doing, you’ll get stomped the same…

So play who you like, expect to lose and lose hard and those of you who are still there after a few weeks will be hooked like the rest of us have for the past 9 years… the others will move on to something else. But don’t go into a match expecting an MSP team to go easy on you because you picked marrow on point – expect that they are going to bring their A game and do the same. I play low tier mostly and have since the beginning… I know full well that I will probably lose going in to a top tier match, but that’s ok… it’s my choice not theirs…

Marvel I think is the best game to teach you how to lose and lose well. You’ll get perfected and sometimes you may get some perfects… it’s just the way it is. Marvel taught me how to build tolerance for losing… but a lot of people don’t have the patience to do that these days… you have to decide which one you are…

You’ll only get better by fighting better people. Granted, using infinites on newbies doesn’t really help, but in all reality, it’s good practice for the player on pulling them off.

Just my opinion.

I am horrific at this game. This is the first time I’ve ever played it (aside from walking by the really, really shitty arcade near me and playing a single game every once and awhile), and honestly I’d like to be playing people that are better than me. Unfortunately I end up playing against team shoto and beam spamming IM all day. Not that I don’t still lose to that sometimes…

fawk this, scrubs come in and i try to smoke’em all out in 14 secs or less or i fail at my job

another note if i play one more low tier team i’m gonna start yank my connection out!

xbl needs to groupY the newbies away from intermediate to elite level competition.

n yes i talk heavy sheeet, the whole match, get at me on xbl nikkas!

I only ran into a low tier team once in ranked. Granted, my opponents had no idea how to use the top tier teams that they chose. Get out of those player matches. :stuck_out_tongue:

mvc2 attracts newcomers at the arcades even now. At cf, there’s a guy who played kof/cvs2 who didn’t touch mvc2 until like this year and he’s gotten decent. And you know nobody be sandbagging casual games at cf, so he learned from scratch playing against MSS teams all day.

There’s another guy, who never really bothered to learn combos/rushdown or anything…he just learned defense and looks for an opening to THC lol. He still has fun.

So I guess what I’m saying is, the new school will stay if they like the game. And if they don’t wanna play because ppl are way better than them, well then I don’t want to play with them either.

I would much rather fight a good Magneto player than all these effing Akuma players.

Good Magneto Player: Does some sort of crazy airdash towards me the moment the fight starts, then attacks like a million times in two seconds, and they’re seemingly all overheads and low hits, so if I don’t guard perfectly, I just lose a character. This is really exciting and fun, even though I pretty much always get OCV’d.

Every Akuma Player Ever, Apparently: Spam Hurricane Kick for 99 seconds straight!! Incredibly easy to beat, but also incredibly boring. One stupid win is not worth the two minutes of my life this guy just wasted. For extra tedium, add Jill and Spider-man, and have them just jump around spamming jab->launch move the whole time.

I can see good points to both ends, but honestly this game has barley been out and like others I’ve already had trouble finding people to play online. Honestly if you’re just whipping someone up and down, give them a hint or a tip or something! Point them to this forum, IDK

IDK, I mean, when a match turns in someone’s favor, it always looks like a massacre. Just look at all the Yipes vs. Wong vids. They go back and forth, yet, when one of them takes control, it really makes the other look bad.

Putting your opponent against the best, will help them in the long run. A low-tier team might be able to string them along a bit longer, but either way, you’re catering to the uncommitted.

Keep in mind there’s more than one personality in a fight. Some newbs, would rather play against a person’s best team until they learn to beat it, or improve against it. You pick a joke-team and they might feel like you think they’re not worth your time, and you’re just jerking them around.

what if we lower our standards and coddle these new player anyway? we have a community with players who only know how to deal with sub-par tactics and strategy that’s what! and scrub who needs to be coddles in order to get them to play was never going to rep the community anyway. fuck em. i play this game on a slightly more casual level ( i know a few infinites and 100% combos) but when someone who has put the work into making his skills respectable come along i take the beating and get to watch some mad combos for a while. if you arent going to play and make a serious effort to get better then you have to at least learn to accept your losses gracefully

Wanna know something funny?
A lot of those people you are losing to probably aren’t even that good of players.
I started playing the day it came out for 360.
Yet at the moment i am 36-3?
Although i do play high tier characters because I find them fun.
I know I am no where near good yet.
About 20 people came and left, a lot of them mad, or they sounded mad.

to the op, i totally understand what you’re saying. your CS/quake analogy is perfect. however, the thing you are (legitimately) trying to address is the very reason i think a lot of quake and marvel players prefer those games. i think the nature of those games help expose people’s character. if you got an anger issue that’s much omre likely to come out in quake/mvc2 than CS/SF4. if you are mentally weak or strong, that also gets more exposed. whether that be quitting the game to play halo 3 like someone you said did, or you start reading and getting better. this is because the level of rape that can occur in quake/mvc2 is a lot higher than their slower paced counterparts. at the end of the day, whether they know it a or not, i think the people who play these games (or any games for taht matter) but particularly mvc2/quake kind of games, like teh games for this reason, because it exposes the person’s character. and what you’re doing is essentially asking us to dumb this down so other people are more comfortable playing the game. this will probably work in the short run, but it will not in the long run. when you compromise yourself like that, it’s not good for you and it’s not good for the other player either.

even at teh highest levels of the game you can get raped. look at some of the matches in the evo top 8. look what yipes did to justin in that first match with magneto. look what justin did to sanford in the first set in the grand finals. the truth is, getting raped pretty bad is somethin gyou have to get used to in mvc2, even if you’re justin wong. if they cant’ start getting used to it they honsetly shouldn’t be playing the game.

I went to a lot of trouble getting good at MvC2. A lot of valuable time was allocated to getting utterly destroyed and learning why. That investiture could have gone to something more productive, so I feel I deserve a little return on that.

I think it is worth it to erase the community if it means I can boost my ego just a little. When you scrubs were going to Senior Prom, I was learning that thing where storm flies around people.

also, dahur you sux scrub nub bbq

Seriously though, please play ultra-serious in ranked and go easy on us newbies in player matches. I am a huge Marvel and Capcom fanboy and I want to be able to play without getting annihilated by tactics the counter for which I have to research to find out that I can’t execute anyway. And I’m not talking research in the booklet and find out how to guard impact. I mean like glitches, developer oversights, exploits, whatever you want to call them without either condoning or condemning them. (my opinion: such things are utterly nessesary and extend the life of a game, they are by far a good thing)

I am also a huge fan of rent? Food? TF2? These things suck up a whole lot of time. I look at learning to be tournament-level in a fighting game as getting good at WoW. It would be fun, but that time would be much better spent elsewhere. Can’t I just play MvC2 without investing any time? Thought? Effort? Sure, easy. But should I expect to win? I think yes.

also, dahur gat a life luserz play mvc all day

Seriously though, it’s somewhere in the middle.

As mvc2 newbie I myself would feel very offended if my opponent would lower his gameplay while fighting me (by not playing his best team). It’s like those stupid players who let you get a round for free, never understood it and it always make me angry. I rather have a vet winning by playing his best rather than having him winning by just fooling around.

And those quitters that you mention, will probably never srsly try to learn the game. They are mostly in it for the achievements, I even had scrubs telling me that after exchanging a couple of hatemessages.

im not got gonna reduce my skill, which i spent time in training mode and playing good players because someone cant take the time to learn

I “reduce” my skills by using low tiers. I still try my best at using them though.

No love, just rape.

If you can’t run with the big dogs, stay on the porch!
