The significance of being mid air during the back dash is A. ken cannot be SPD or TT’ed or even THROWN during his backdash, B. If somehow kens backdash gets stuffed but a normal attack he gets an air reset instead of a full combo, and C. makes some OS’es fail against him anad resulting in an air reset instead of a fully punished backdash.
It was sad getting tornado thrown when backdashing right after blocking Abel’s step kick. Actually, it was a humiliating guess for ken.
And please try to post in the questions thread instead of creating a new thread next time, thanks.
No offense but why pick another character when you can win with your main?

Good luck, you only need to play to learn, but I fail to understand how you cant set yourself up for ken’s bnbs. About me, my game starts with either an Anti-Air mp.dp > knockdown pressure, footsie, or a guessed jump. There you go, that’s the actual truth about getting in with ken, if not then you will end up being a turtle wait-for-your-opponent’s-mistake type of player, which only beneficial against certain matchups.
So, I’m at this point where I basically need to up my footsies game outside of step kick, cr.mk, kara throw, and air tatsus.
Can someone walk me through your footsies game at certain ranges? Say cr.mk range and also up close. I’m getting way too predictable with my mk’s and such.
Also, if anyone wants to play my Ken and work on each other’s footsie’s, my psn is ‘vannuge’.
You didn’t have meter, don’t make your play style look good now. You mashed uppercut at every opportunity, so I gave a scrub too much respect. Gettin’ exposed for dodging money matches and mashing like a scrub is your problem, don’t start shit in a good sub-forum.
I didn’t plan on commenting on your interest in Ken all of a sudden but hey it’ll be fun making you look like ass when I get back to Austin. Enjoy the Ken forums, great source of information for all your Ken needs.
Well if that was the case that how come I killed your wack ass Ken 5-1 with my week one Akuma. If I was mashing uppercut at every turn then the risk reward wouldn’t have been in my favor at all and you would have easily won every time. I’m not the best player, but based on how I did against all of Austins top players, save viet and hsien, I know for a fact you can’t call me bad without calling some of the best players there bad.
Herp Derp lol? Do you know how much he wanted to money match for? Ikaru, I challenge you to a 500 dollar money match if you don’t accept you are a dodging pussy. I don’t gamble that kind of money on chance even if I’ll likely win.
Never played your Akuma, probably ass like your scrub tastic Ryu. So throw that 5-1 nonsense out of here.
The point was you were talking shit and didn’t back it up. Then you talked about shit you didn’t understand. Hell you don’t even know who you used when you played m
You yourself made it look like you were a scrub that dodges. But hey if you got 500 to throw around I’ll let you know next time I’m in Austin and we can do it real big. I’ll ask Fubar to get it on livestream w/ commentary, make an event out of it!
Uh, yea you did. The only day that I even remember where you and me were at UFO at the same time. I vividly remember you playing Ken on a cabinet and beating you 5-1 with Akuma. But hey, when you don’t like someone it’s easier on your mind to pretend shit like that never happened, right? Yea my Ryu is garbo, but it’s kinda unfair to judge me messing with random characters. When I started going to UFO I really only knew how to play Abel decent and started picking up shotos cause obviously Viet and Hsien are good to learn from. I wasn’t really talking shit, I was only defending myself. I was the new guy and people were talking shit to me and I didn’t take it so people got upset, kinda like how you have a random grudge against me and take random shots at me for no reason at all. Not smart to treat new player when they enter a community like that if you like fighting games. You take yourself and video games too serious lol. Take a step back and listen to yourself for a moment, I am a puss for dodging a 500 dollar match in a video game. Now say that out loud to yourself and tell me how it sounds to you.
It’s been discussed before. It’s not reliable. Kara’s add like 1-3 frames of extra start-up, making combos like FS.mp > U2 and cr.mk xx hadoken FADC U2 impossible because they’re 1 frame links. Also the added range just isn’t enough. If there’s ever a situation where you must kara U2 for the ultra to connect (very rare case), it isn’t worth trying ultra at that point
Ok. Well done Blaise for getting this thread back on track. Lets leave it there.
On a side note, I just got my new phone so it will be real easy for me to post my matches on youtube. Then you 2 can sleep knowing that you’re both a million times better than me…
Lets all just chill, we haven’t had any bad vibes in here for months…
Best thing you can do for yourself is figure it out on your own and understand for yourself why you’re using each move. use that brain of yours, its there for a reason
Ken is my main since SFII and in AE i feel that he has become a real good character like on 3s , im pretty satisfied with the changes, the startup on lp dp doesnt affect my gameplay at all and beside the double block on ex Tatsu, he only got buffs, still undefeated against twins i think that ken could have the advantage on that matchups. Well just opened this thread to say i love AE ken and would like to know how you guys feel with the changes after the first 3 days of the game in console.
i love the 7 frame sweep it really helps with keep ing pressure and now he has another untechable knockdown other than throw.
the improved target combo is now actually somewhat useful
crouching medium punch to crouching medium kick is also a nice thing to to have as a tool
i think he is a lot better than he used to be
IMHO learn your ranges for sweep, cr.mk, step kick and fireball at ranges where you will be safe on block. Knowing when to walk backwards and hold down back is very important as ur hitbox is smaller when you are standing. But knowing your opponents ranges and reading your opponent IMO is the most important aspect of footsies.
yeah the sweep is great , ken needed that , and yeah now i can manage to get the target combo almost every time and not whiff, the “nerf” to the ex tatsu is noticeable to you?
