(OLD) Ken General Discussion Thread (Combos, Techniques, etc.)

That’s the reason why OS EX tatsu works, right? But yeah, IME it’s especially annoying when my friend’s Akuma has 2 bars because there’s no way I can tell if it’s SRK or teleport no matter how hard he’s mashing. lol

what z the best network for SSF4, XBL or PSN, I have psn, but i dont mind getting a xbox, wanna improve, I am attending evo, dont wanna suck to much. and for network, most people have comcast or a 20 to 12 mgb network? iam thinking about upgrading to 50mgb.

@ fame the best would be xbl, but like you i’m a psn user and i play xbl at my friends not much a difference in connection.

To be honest majority of the top players play on XBL anyway, but happen to have a PS3 as well. Definitely obvious by the number of XBL tags displayed to PSN ID’s in the 1st post of the video thread too.

I have both systems and XBL is clearly superior. Every match, on either system, has some amount of lag. But all in all, it seems like I’m more likely to get a laggier matches on the PS3.

ok, thanks darktown, Ikaru and johnnyV.I gonna try some top players on both network.I bought a fighting stick, a cheap one, to get ready for evo, but I dont like it.
http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-zl-49-en-70-3d9n.html <- $29.90 (bad choice for competitive gaming)

It is too small, and the stick is not long enough. I need advise for the best fighting stick available for SSF4. even if it is expensive.

That’s easy. Get the Madcatz TE stick. It’s what almost everyone uses and is a good solid stick. The bonus of that is that if anything goes wrong with yours at a tournament (buttons go out, etc) you can borrow just about anyone’s stick and feel right at home. It’s also easy to open up and replace the stick and buttons if/when they eventually do go bad.

Thanks man

Madcatz TE or one of the newer hraps are you best choices. http://tiny.cc/xckps

awesome ok thanks everyone, i really do appreciate the help and the advice and twisted i will for sure those combos down and make sure not to overwhelm myself.

Hello guys, I don’t know shit about frames, characters frame data. Can you help out?
And also, is there a page to understand fighting gaming expression? like: c.lk xx c.lp xx c.lp, F + FP, C.lp, c.lp, c.lp, c.hk.
Thanks guys, I am kinda new to all of this.

lk = light kick, mk = medium kick, hk = heavy kick, lp = light punch, mp = medium punch and hp = heavy punch.

c. or cr. = crouching. F + FP = hold stick forward/toward opponent and hit fierce/heavy punch. xx denotes the first move to the next are a cancel. While commas like F+HP, c.lp denotes link timing.

I’ve been trying to get an idea of what Kens bnbs are as well but haven’t been able to find a nice list yet. I don’t really think I still need that list but I’m afraid I’m missing out on some cool stuff anyway. What are some of Kens less obvious combos?

A lot of combos on akagamis list don’t make sense to me, useless light hits in otherwise decent and/or high damage combos, no offense. Am I missing something?

Whats up guys. I’ve been trying to pick up Ken because I want to main him in AE but I find myself struggling to learn his fundamentals. I’m pretty decent in terms of execution and I have learned his bnbs but I have a hard time setting myself up for these combos in game. I was wondering if anybody wanted to help me out and play some matches and give tips.

Thanks a ton. My Gamertag is Karaba10.

Sounds like you just need to play a lot. Someone telling you what to do when you don’t really have a feel for the character won’t help you much. I’m also trying to pick up Ken and even though I still lose to players who don’t stand a chance against me when I use my main, it’s getting better. You really need to figure out for yourself what works and what doesn’t. That way you learn faster because you know why what you did worked (or not :P).

Good luck.

Thanks for the advice. I played a decent amount today and played with some friends and I seem to have made huge improvements.

You guys have probably already figured this shit out a while ago seeing as the Ken forums are one of the best, but just in case you haven’t I found out something useful while fucking around in training mode. You can kara Kens U2 allowing you to combo from a little further away. I thought that was pretty interesting. Kinda hard to consistently pull off though.

Try kara back throw. That’s fun.

Yeah, that is fun, but I thought you were more of a ‘kara waaaaaaah you dp after cross ups when you have two bars’ type of guy.

I was reading the updates for ae, and have been wondering what is the significance of being mid air after the invincibility of a back dash? Will it make it more useful to dash back? Thx in advance.
