What is the best option off of an ex tatsu cross-up? All i do now is either f.DP the fadc ultra or cr.MK, F. tatsu
Is it even worth doing?

Question: why do Kens do cr. LK, cr. LP, HP DP…
…instead of cr. lk, cr. lp, cr. HP HP DP? Does more damage and stun.
Whiffs if you’re not deep enough. Most players simply wouldn’t risk it.
i see.
Guess cr. hp is best used for tatsu…
Lets say you’re trying to get them as they get up. Would cr.lk, cr. lp, cr. hp, tatsu make you too far for the cr. hp?
If you are just standing in front of them on their get up animation I believe that is character dependent. Though I definitely know if you jump in with fierce you can get that combo off. Also instead of cr. lp go for st. lp because it is an easier link unless you are plinking it.
Take Ryu and Ken to training back to back and do that combo. The timing for it with Ken is so strict, few players try to master it. Online it’s almost foolish to try and link a c.HP from anything other than a jump-in…
Yes, it would be wonderful, but unfortunately IMO c.HP is not a bnb link for Ken. The timing is too strict for most players to be consistent. This is why you use c.lk c.lp Fierce SRK instead. much easier and hits opponents who forgot to block low first.
If they are standing well, Ken’s s.lp becomes available and all the shenanigans began;)
It’s actually not that hard. Especially if you learn to plink. The stun is worth it.
By all means, learn to do that link consistently.
Oh his wakeup I use a jump in hp. Beats lariat if you time the jump a bit early (I think every jumping normal will if timed right) and a little deep. It doesn’t really give you much advantage though besides putting some pressure on because giefs will know you’re not going for a cross-up and they’ll block it every time. Now if we could get a cross-up that’d be nice to get gief guessing.
I remember reading about a kara tatsu cross-up on gief. Is that regular kara tatsu or ex?
Standing beside him and doing a safe jump on wake up you at least put the pressure on him to respond. More often than not, nothing happens. Which is fine. Sometimes you get the j.hp to connect. Good. Every damage counts vs Gief since combos are hard to come by.
But once in a while they will attempt a EX command throw and/or if you get really lucky - an Ultra attempt.
I don’t abuse this tactic, but like all others it is something in your toolbox to keep Gief honest.
BTW - be aware of the EX Green Hand on wake up if you like to abuse the jump back FP tactic.
Just gonna throw this out there- http://www.1up.com/do/feature?pager.offset=2&cId=3177237
Anyone ever heard of Ken’s theme relating to Cheap Trick? I may just be out of the loop on this, but a brief search didn’t yield much, so I figure I’ll share.
I use this jump back fierce tactic a lot against gief too, but I mix in a few other options to keep a gief guessing
On giefs wake up I either throw, or fp.srk (fadc if blocked CAREFUL with the dash forward b/c he can ultra for free), or jump back fierce. I establish the jump back fierce first then i start the throw and f.srk mix up further.
And if i suspect the ex green hand on wake up then i jump back and late RH into low forward xx rh.tatsu (And if the gief guess right with wakeup ex hand and my jump back fierce whiffs then I usually try to re jump because you land right where the greenhand ends and they often go for a c.throw or ultra
I don’t play Ken that seriously, but I do play Cammy pretty seriously.
So, protip for those who’re still having trouble confirming counter hit fierce srk before ultra: practice Cammy’s c.hp -> ultra counterhit link with counterhit on random. Compared to that shit, you have all the time in the world to confirm the counter hit before ultra with Ken.
I finally got a decent connection back…PSN name is the same, I’m a pretty decent Ken, anyone looking to spar just add me.
Like many others, I’m playing a bit more lately to prep for SSF4…
I wish I could play Doc again, just to see if he got a lot better or not, Chaos you still on PSN?
add me up. i feel like my ken is up there with chaos n yipes and damdai mirror match wise, once i lern the a few more matchupps at highlevel ill b strate, duble option selecting is killing me right now
Hi all, very new to the site - only been reading it a couple of days - and i’m totally blown away, picked up some great tips already!
Bit of a SFIV noob really so was wondering if any one had any tips to beat Blanka players - ones that tend to cannonball, electric, cannonball, electric and do little else. I really seem to struggle.
Any help/tips greatly appreiciated.
Mp shoryu for the horizontal balls, or just crouching mp to stuff it. Crouching mk -> hadouken for the electricity, or just trip him if you’re far enough.
Ken normal question. I need a reliable ground normal for AA options besides crouching fierce. Does Ken have anything with decent vertical range, or is it just a case of strong shoryu at the right range, kara strong shoryu for a little further out?
Also, a decent Ken combo, just in case nobody else has added it. Crouching lk -> crouching lp -> crouching mk cancel hp shoryu. Haven’t done too much testing, but it tends to hit when the crouching lk is done close. Around 204 dmg, iirc.
Does anyone know the frame for the fake overhead F+HK (hold)?
Not sure if anybody posted this before, but I’m checking out Ken’s far standing roundhouse and it looks like it beats low attacks, assuming that the attack doesn’t reach Ken’s pivot foot before the roundhouse is active. Testing it on Vega’s slide, since he’s my main and I probably understand his normals better than any other character. Success atm. Could be useful for mixing up against opponents trying to counter the step-kick since it has about the same range and is 1 frame slower in start-up.
aye, it has a nice long hit-box that extends well past where ken can be hit, and on top of that it’s not all that high up off the ground so as to be slipped under by low attacks. however due to it’s slow speed i would be very frugal with your use of the attack as even more so than the step kick it’s focus/dp bait.
