(OLD) Ken General Discussion Thread (Combos, Techniques, etc.)

OmniCloud, not even trying to diss you or anything, but you’re literally, honestly, and truly not worth the typing on my keyboard with the way you’re acting right now.

Never said anything about being elite either, lol.

You have shit all mixed up, I suggest you go back to www.gamefaqs.com in your comfort zone :china: or just not attempt to lead the blind, since you are a blind one.

being a little bickering pansy…

I’ll be on ps3 soon. We can play some games!

I added to your rep Omni. Cheers!!

P.S. Stop Complaining :coffee:

ok…thank you sorry for being as ass…but that got me mad lol…but yeah, I’m being a bitch right now;) bickering like a little school girl.

Chaos!!!

ECT Runback!!!

Then casuals all day!!!

Go over to One’s house and get the PS3 right now, I wanna play!!

Another good punisher combo against fireballs/ whiffed ultras is j.hk, cr.mk, hp srk. It’s best if you are too far to work in the rh tatsu. Other than that, I always use something like cr.hp, rh tatsu to punish.

soo… not sure if this has been posted yet but i found a combo i am liking a lot.

by no stretch is it the best thing ever, but for me it’s helping a lot. i like to throw this out as kinda a added bonus when a poke hits.

c. mk > fp hado > fadc > c. mk > hk tatsu

does around 300 damage and it all gets started off a poke right in that sweet spot range of kens. not sure how good it’s gonna be for confirming, but yeah just started using it this morning.

oh and btw chaos saw a couple of your matches from the EC showdown or whatever, great stuff ^^.

The string is fine to do. If you think you have a good chance to connect it- go for it. Maximize on damage output. If they’ve blocked- fadc and throw. Or mix up something else

I know, but how do you do it without getting anti-air to your face? How do you time it?

I quite often go for a throw out of a FADC hadouken. It’s not the most damage in the world but it’s safe makes them expect the trow if you do it again, making it easier to hit with a tatsu.

I like to hit confirm tatsu’s just because you need to know that

  1. They are standing
  2. They aren’t blocking

If they aren’t standing, a good cr. fp will do the trick.

Safe jump is a jumping attack upon a an opponent on wake-up. The jump and attack is timed very late with the following characteristics:

  1. They wake up and immediately are forced to block
  2. Their wake-up reversal comes out but you land and block

Even if you attack and they reversal - your attack doesn’t come out and you land and block. That’s the essence of safe jump. Doing a cross-up safe jump is just more better.
> Jump late and attack late. That’s how you do it. Timing becomes 2nd nature after you constantly practice cross-ups on wake-up on the opponents.

I dunno about the hadouken FDAC, seems like a waste of meter if you use it too often. And you gotta commit to that move since you have little frames out the FA. I guess it’s useful to get in on a zoner or if you’re really far away.

if your on xbox live look up the video i have uploaded, i make near abusive use of safe jumps after throws.

gt is highlulu

I should rep u for getting a PS3, lol. Dont have to worry about RROD…I know u are pissed.

basically your hit confirm is your c.mk hadouken (2 hits) if you see they blocked both, you can FA still and just throw, or you can try over again. You will only waste meter if you don’t listen to your hit confirming voice in the back of your head saying “GO FOR IT!” or “HE BLOCKED!!! TRY AGAIN!”…ya dig?

yeah but it’s so hard to time for me…you have to snap that thing right after your lp, I gotta practice it, but it just feels like something that won’t come out all the ***time–which I need it to.

Later on today

ok…just got done playing a Sagat player, about my skill level, maybe a little better. And I just couldn’t win…Every match is close, we both get low on heath, and he just comes out victorious. It seems like even when I read him, his Tiger Uppercut beat me.

Like say he did a FA lv2, I blocked it and knew he would dash in and try to continue the offensive, so I buffered up a shoryuken like BAAM! and he was nope–Tiger UPPERCUT! lol…happened like 4 times with everyone of my attempts with both lp SRK and HP SRK…

Then on wakeup, he’s always crouch blocking, so I smack him with step kick, knew he was gonna counter, so I buffer a lp SRK–NOPE TIGER UPPER SMACKS ME…try the same thing with HP SRK–get smacked again. I guess the recovery for step overhead is just not gonna cut it? and I have to be close and mk overhead? I dunno this seems to work well against everyone else I’ve fought, If I knew they were gonna get antsy after the step kick, I’d smack em with a SRK…

Not to mention-sometimes these Tigger uppers led into a S.RH–Ultra–which pretty much kills you…and your like dude, I just mopped the floor with you, then you get one Tiger off and I’m drained like this??! Man…that’s just so mean…

I got nothing here against a good Sagat player. If I’m close he’s poking with c.mp and HK. If I FA those, then he starts trying to hit confirm with low forwards and tiger shots (which has very good reach)

If he gets one off–it backs you up, then he can do his Tiger Knee–which is safe on block from that distance, and I have to wait and tech a throw (which I didn’t do of course, because I’m too jumpy)

So yeah, Dr./Mag/Guns, whoever has beat a bunch of Sagats (and not scrubby ones) what’s the gameplan here?

So far, all I got is don’t jump, FADC maybe 1 or two tiger shots, and use c.mk hadouken a lot! Don’t spam step kick because of his FA…

That’s it! I have no clue what this guy is weak against or anything. tips would be helpful.

fact if the matter. I lose to high level sagats too. You CANNOT win fullscreen. You HAVE to get in.

Sagat has a weakness- slow and his combos require good execution with exact timining.

Ken can shut out sagats tiger shot game when he makes f+mk range. You have to poke at him to keep him on the defense. This magic ken range is your tactical advantage. His options decrease.
Sagats thinking: have to stop his f+mk… Better try FA.
Your new thinking: “be ready for FA and tatsu”

Sagats hard man. Jsut need to remember the gameplan. Get a life lead and keep with safe pokes. Remember that his strings take exact timing- look for counter dps of ur own

Here is a tip if you are trying to get the kara focus down.

Ken can kara in two ways: f+mk OR f+hk

An easier way to do the kara focus is use the same motion as kara throw, only use the f+hk, mp+mk, f. f+mk, mp+mk, f is so awkward. f+hk fixes that… if you can use kara throw already that is. That way you only have to learn one motion.

that’s a beautiful idea!
That’ll be easy. Just hope it will get some decent distance like f+mk kara

if he has a habit of doing that then just let him tiger uppercut and block it. come on i know you’re better than that, dont let him hit tiger uppercut you with the same setup 4 times haha.

Same deal. I’m pretty sure sagat’s tiger uppercuts all out prioritize ken’s shoryukens. So just let him whiff the tiger uppercut then punish accordingly. Also, if you try a block string and he’s mashing tiger uppercut then just block in the middle of your block string, let him whiff, then punish.

p.s. dr. chaos, i’d like to play against you once you get a ps3. i need to play against more good kens so i can up my game.
