(OLD) Ken General Discussion Thread (Combos, Techniques, etc.)

Or you can do f+mk (hold) ~ mp for something millions of times easier than both of those lol.

F+hk kara focus would better suit my stick use on arcade as it is a straight transition. Doing f+mk and then adding on mp doesn’t suit my hand positioning. It is a alien gesture to my hands.

If f+mk focus proves to be substantially better than f+hk. I’ll try and adopt it. Otherwise a straight transition is more logical.

The problem I see with using f+hk is that if you mess up, that kick takes a long time to recover compared to f+mk. I haven’t tried using f+hk yet though, I’ll try it out in the morning and see how it feels

Gotta try this, just played a ken vs ken match. You gain meter pretty fast and I was eventually spamming c.mk xx ex hadou.

Sagat’s Tiger Uppercuts have 5 Frames of Start-up (and 1-5 Frames of invincibility during this time).

All of Ken’s SRKs are faster than 5 Frames (bar his EX, which is equal to). Using hp.SRK as an example (it’s 3 Frames, so lets say it has 1-3 Frames invincibility). If you SRK at the same time as him, your move will come out faster but because you won’t have as much invincibility as Sagat, I’m pretty sure regular SRKs will lose every time.

Like it’s already been said, if Sagat is Tiger Uppercut-Happy just bait it out (e.g. get in his face and block or cancel two cr.lp/cr.lk into eachother then block) then punish him with big damage. You shouldn’t really be attempting to ‘match-uppercuts’ with anyone you’re pretty certain is going to execute one.

f+hk feels better to me, my hand just can’t figure out the f+mk variation for whatever reason. I think the distance is pretty much the same as well, but I may be wrong.

Yeah gd stuff…Cynistar said the same thing…

This sort of means that I have to turtle though, and I don’t like turtle, I’m a KEN PLAYER! I Don’t want to bait!!! :annoy: lol…but yeah, about the 7th time I lost, I figured out, his TU must beat all my normal SRK, because I know I was getting it out faster than him. (I’m in love with SRK)

I’m gonna try and cross-up more with a poke-crossup and see how that goes. so now I know that it doesn’t matter if I use HK-overhead or the MK one, his TU will beat me! tsk tsk…Fagot is lame;( lol

You can’t really be turtling if you’re in his face. You can be playing defensively/smartly (while in his face) which is completely different.

If you like SRKs and being aggressive, you should enjoy the experience more when you block Sagat’s TU and then you’re left with FREE DAMAGE to inflict on him. You can go all SRK-happy on him with a combo after that.

You can’t spend the whole match pressing buttons to attack against characters with good/invincible reversals such as Sagat, Ryu, Ken, Rufus (w/EX Meter) etc. You have to mix it up abit, and baiting is a huge part of becoming successful at any fighting game - regardless of the character you play.

I’ll shoot you a request, connection might be a bit rough though. :chat:

what’s everyone’s favorite block-stun combo?

cause i’m starting to think that c.lk c.lp c.lp c.mk is getting me hurt on block even if i’m timing it correctly (i’m prolly around 70-80% at getting c.mk to combo).

If it’s not perfect, they can usually mash out an upper before your c.mk. If I see that they are just blocking, I’ll either stop and go for a kara throw or go for a cross up after c.lk, c.lp, (c.lp) <-Optional. Sometimes it helps for the cross up set up. Sometimes it pushes the opponent back too far for a Kara throw. Use your best judgment.

I saw the replay of you stomping that Sagat! I bet he was thinking “Why isn’t he using fierce shoryu!?!?!” He really couldn’t deal with you being all over him. Good job.

Welcome to the DARKSIDE, hehe…good to see u on the ps3. I have a stripped screw on my PS3 (& 360) TE & now I cant put my ball top and square gate back on until can get the screw off. I have a bat top and octo gate on it. Still havent gotten used to it…

and yes the past couple of days the PSN has been kinda trippin.

Whoa WHOA! Everyone go confirm this for me! But I think Target Combo doesn’t whiff on certain characters–mainly TURTLES!!!

So far, I’ve tried it on Gouken, Guile, Chunli, E.Honda, and Rufus, and I’m pretty sure it will work on Sagat (he’s like 6 ft) and Zangief (not that you would want to cross him up anyway)

but yeah, If there was one character I would want it for though–it’s definitely Balrog. Balrog players are crouching like 80% of the match. But it seems it still whiffs on him…

I’m gonna test it out in games today, this will be a great addition to Ken’s cross-up! I hate doing little lk lp to hit confirm!

Btw–if you haven’t realized yet, you can Target combo into TATSU…so yeah, if this works, I advice people to use it on the character that you can use it on;)

It’s certainly not the best combo in the world, and the damage scaling of it still sucks–but it will get you in if your opponent doesn’t block one hit of a cross-up, once you get a tatsu off–the ball is in the air, and you can start your Ken stuff that you do;)

It works pretty well on Sagat but on other characters it still seems too unreliable, especially after a jump in or cross up.

I just tried it on a crouching Dhalsim, Guile, Chun-li, Blanka, Abel, Sagat, Fei, Akuma, Gouken, and E.honda…and they all connected, even when I set it to auto block.

This is actually realy awesome against Sagat, if you do a hp. shoryu at the end of the target combo. You actually do more damage doing a cross up targetcombo xx shoryu instead of using cr. k/p cr. p xx shoryu. And it keeps Sagat down and pressured, you can also throw in the tatsu with him to get him really pressured down after . I can’t see me using this on other people though since it can be risky. But the most important thing is that you got to make sure that your crossup hits

Actually I take that all back, I won’t be using this cause it’s pretty damn hard to hit confirm target combo. And you’re left really open after the close hp if it’s blocked. I’d stick at getting really good at doing cr k cr p cr mk tatsu

This! Unless being a part of Ken’s target combo changes its properties, close standing fierce is unsafe ON HIT! I don’t know how negative you are, but Ryu can reversal shoryu your ass every time! That means you HAVE to tack the hado on at the end… Which is bad. If it doesn’t become a block stun combo, then you’ll be eating reversal shoryus and reversal ultras all night long.

Just stick with your hit confirm c.short, c.jab combos. It’s not the flashiest thing in the world, but its safe. Ken needs all the “safe” he can get.

I dont know if this has been posted yet but ive notice dragon boy has a tendancy to do Cr.mk at the end of sagat’s long poke strings that end in tiger knee. the Cr.mk would make the knee whiff and he gets free throw. I hate ken…

If Sagat isn’t over-powered, he’s damn near close, plz…we need all the tips we can get against this guy. His pokes are like combos for goodness sake!

Too bad we (I really dont) see/play a lot of good Sagat online to really test this stuff…flowchart (insert character here)…are unpredictable at times, so you HAVE to be cautious. This info is still valuable nonetheless. B/c there is this one Sagat player that I need to beat.

Flowchart characters are the worst! I’ve got so many bad habits to fight because of this.
