Old Genei Jin for the Win!: Yun Moveset, Strategies, and Combos

Looking at the first post, I’m pretty sure Yun’s st.MK is jump cancellable not super jump cancellable.

So after months and now with AE’s return I’m back.

Hey what are You yun players doing for safe block strings

Hello, I’m new around here, but have used this place for years. I just got dlc this morning and was playing around with yun and discovered something during an online match. What I found was (and this may not be new but I haven’t seen anyone do it yet lol) that you can crouching lp to target combo 5. So I hit the lab and did some testing with damage and stun values, let me know what you all think. You can hit me up on xbox live as iceman2376.

My Yun combo tests

I started with

Crouching Lp, Crouching Lp, Standing Lp, Standing Medium Punch, to Medium Up kicks
189 Dmg and 286 Stun
Not bad, but i found out you can only do med up kicks and ex up kicks, so i tried what i “found”

Crouching Lp, Target Combo 5, M. Up kicks
187 Dmg 286 Stun

Crouching Lp, Target Combo 5, F. Up kicks
193 Dmg and 316 Stun

Crouching Lp, Target Combo 5, Ex Dash Punch, L. Dash Punch
238 Dmg and 391 Stun

Crouching Lp, Target Combo 5, Ex Dash Punch, Ultra 1(full animation)
343 Dmg and 316 Stun

I did find something really funny when i tested Ex up kicks though

171 Dmg and 316 Stun

Crouching Lp, Target Combo 5, Ex Up kicks
169 Dmg and 316 Stun

Haven’t figuered out why it did less, maybe ex up kicks scales funny who knows. But these are a few of my findings with Yun today so let me know if there are good or bad. Thanks

It does less because you’re using cr.LP , st.LP , st.MP instead of TC5.

really? is his best genei jin combo… corner palm, palm, lunge??? Repeat till they die?
500 damage… how fucking brain dead can you get?

I feel like Yun isn’t to XBOX Live friendly. Difficult to find the timing to link divekicks into shorts/jabs without being grabbed.

If they’re grabbing you, just dive kick again?

The only true safe block strings are chain canceled normals, like cr lp x3 or cr lk x3.

I have a question about what to do after cmd grab, what is the most damaging follow up to it? And what if you have GJ, what combo can you use to activate?

The most damaging combo I can come up with after cmd grab is cr mp st mp xx dp…maybe cr mp x2 on bigger characters?

You’re right…after cmd throw do c.mp s.mp xx mk dp (add one more c.mp on bigger chars like sagat, abel, gouken etc). If you have GJ just do c.mp s.mp xx lp shoulder xx GJ > s.rh > mp lunge > whatever

when i said safe i meant something that gives me chip damage and is pretty much safe

lp shoulder is safe on block if spaced correctly…for example you might do a few light attaks into c.mk xx lp shoulder

Be warned that you can be hit before the shoulder actually comes out - it’s not a true block string. If you want something that can be a good 50-50 mixup, end with either a fake or MP/HP palm. It has it’s risk, but you can bait reversals with the fake palm and possibly catch crouch techs w/ normal palm.

EX Lunge Punch, Ultra 1 works outside of corners on some characters, I tested only a few characters: Ryu,Evil Ryu, Yun, and Blanka. The only character, out of those four, that Ex LP to U1 didn’t work on was Blanka. Can someone verify that for me? O and the dmg is 440.

Also, lp shoudler isn’t safe against characters withfast supers, like chun, ryu, dhalsim etc…so don’t whore it out too much.

Works without corner, at least on ryu and hakan;)

Dunno if this has been known yet but I found this easy corner combo:
MP/HP Palm , cl.st.MK , MP lunge
308dmg, 450stun.

You can also JC into dive kick for mixup instead. The nice thing about ending with Lunge is that it keeps your opponent in the corner and sets you up for another meaty Palm. You can also use LP lunge if the timing is too strict.

Edit: you can also use f+HP instead of lunge as well.
