Old games are better!

Eddie has his share of bad match ups, is easy to combo on, does not have inescapable loops that kill you, is not a brain-dead easy character, and even Ogawa has had his ass handed to him by lower tiered characters.

Yeah, im sorry I really just went off of what I’ve heard and have never avidly played A GG game (No ps2 stick) and i have no experience in real CVS2 play.

the sad part is that decided to make this troll thread here and not in DL cuz he is a mod there

lol can’t detect sarcasm
also shame on you, you’re exactly what’s wrong with srk

Lol. Old-school mentality is so, so annoying. Just get with the times already for crying out loud.

I avoid streetfighter style games because it’s just so damn old and boring. Give me newschool doujins and arcsys games anyday.

Holy fuck the characters in Street Fighter are boring and ugly. There are like five people in the whole cast who I find interesting and most of them are from 3rd strike. At least the characters in Blazblue look cool and not like they’ve had their faces hit with a brick. (excluding Tagar of course)

nya nya nya-nya nya

This new mentality of easier games is disgusting.

Quick-save, auto-aim and health regeneration in FPS… Great, I’m basically invincible. Why even pretend to give me a health bar if I can just press load and return to a state 5 seconds ago when things go bad.

In Yoshi’s Island 2(man, the original is 100 times better) I had 70 lives after the first world. But who cares anyway, since nowadays running out of lives in platformers doesn’t really punish you anyway.

We need shit like Steel Battalion, delete the save file if you can’t escape your mech in time
Or just good ol’ fashioned “have to start over if you run out of lives” coupled with some nasty level design.
Maybe that’s why games doesn’t have as much “wonder” anymore. Getting to a level you’ve never seen before actually was exciting when it took hundreds of tries to accomplish.
But whatever…

Then go play Ninja Gaiden II.

Now that’s a hard game.
You can never get enough of getting knocked into pits.
I’ll probably never be able to finish that.

Off-topic: NG2 has fantastic intro music, and NG series have the best cutscenes on NES ever

Some games from the 90s and early 2000 were really good indeed.

But not all of the new FG are crap… I agree that SF4 is pretty poor in general (compared to the good ol’ST or Zero2 and 3 which I loved… and still love).

Blazblue is looks pretty disappointing after GGXX AC, but give the game a chance to get more versions with more characters, more gameplay options, maybe an additional button in the future that would add more depth to the game, and let the devs balance all this over the years.

I can’t agree more.
But keep in mind that the first Guilty Gear was pretty lame (2 frames of animation per moves, simplistic gameplay, pretty small cast… etc…) but ASW made it grow and it became what it is now.

This is unfortunately what I believe to be the inconvenient truth of gaming…

If games are not as good as they used to be, it’s mainly because “new” gamers are not as dedicated and passionate, and are living in an assisted society were they feel like they don’t need to learn anything anymore.

Games devloppers are just trying to fit the new market by releasing “games-for-morons” to achieve their sales targets.

Most people nowdays want to play Wii Fit, Mario cooking Christmas with lemmings and pokemons, and other I.Q. test with Dr. Luigi bullshit…

This, or like you said, Auto-aim-infinite-continues-instant-respawn-unlimited-ammo FPS and auto-save-every-10-fucking-seconds-action-games.

The next generation of fighting games will have a “Auto-win” option you would be able to set on “yes” in the option menu… you press “select” and the round is won automatically displaying a cock-sucking message like “You win, you are the man, the ultimate champion of the universe! Well done! congratulations!!! MAAAD FUCKING PROPS!!! you are the new king of this game! …you are sooo cool and sexy, you must be getting laid like a duracell bunny by some top-models every night man!”

Sure thing!

Indeed…

yeah pretty much.

I’m still confused to the seriousness of this thread.

I’ve been FGs since the dawn of FGs. The older games aren’t ALL that. People will bash the newer games and act like the older games didn’t have issues. People will complain about SF4 Sagat, but extol games like 3s, A2, or A3. People will complain about bad guesses lead into FADC ultra, when in A2 and A3 you could lose 80% life from a bad guess. It just sounds cooler to bash newer games.

Also innovation isn’t always a good thing. Back in the mid 90s everyone was trying to innovate. As a result it drove a lot of casual fans away from the genre. I really do believe what new games are trying to do is a novel cause. They are minmizing a lot of the gameplay mechanics, and trying to make it accessible for beginner, while still emphasizing core fundamentals as well.

SFIV doesn’t have a lot of subsystems like say A3, but it’s meant to be minimum. It gives you a little something new, but still things that were important in the older games like spacing, zoning, and footsies are still relevant to the game.

I will agree that game like SFIV does have it’s problems, but I don’t think it has nearly the same problems as 3s and A3 has at higher levels.

I was talking about 360…not NES.

Both of which are difficult.

I personally love Blazblue, very un-original indeed, but a good departure from the GG series, though it ended prematurely. I like the concept of BB a lot, but they went out of wack with certain chars’ fighting styles, and actually giving chars projectiles (Very few chars had projectiles in GG, Venom said hi!). The game needs balancing, which is often not attained in the opening game of a FG franchise.

SF4 is still great to me, not ST great, but it’s still my 2nd favorite SF. Most SF’s besides ST have their issues when jumping into high level play, parries/grabs in 3s, CC’s in A2 and A3, the worst I can pull up on SF4 is how certain matchups are handled, a lack of balance (Honda vs Dhalsim still makes me cry), and how annoying Sagat, Ryu and maybe Dhalsim are. But in the world of SF we get an update and we don’t look back.

Man, this is fun.

balance is over rated, so long as the gap between the top and the bottom isnt like, sentinel compared to roll.

i like technical combos, links, and bananas.

dont care what era the game came out in.

How do I make furry anime bisexuals appealing to the mainstream?

in any artistic medium including video games generally there will be older works that are much better than every single new one in a given year. Its just odds, 1 year versus however long people have been making something. even if technology increases i don’t think graphics and gimmicks can’t compete with good design, and new games often just don’t have good design(just like 99% of old ones).

I am not at all a classic game player really but i think some older games are really good and alot of newer games are really pieces of crap.

Give it a decade or so and most of these “newer” games will be better, lol! In all seriousness, new or old, if a game is good I’ll be playing it for sure.

why do people keep thinking balance is synonymous with good polished games?

you play guile…anything can amuse you.
