All of the infinites are out in the US 360 version of the game. The command grab stuff was fixed too, yes.
It’s a real shame of a game though. Arcade version was busted pretty bad and it never got a patch (even though it’s easy to do on a Type-X). The game wasn’t even popular with the dev team behind it, and as I recall they screwed up the arcade release by only selling it packaged with a Vewlix or something like that.
All that and the fact that it didn’t play like Guilty Gear pretty much meant it never stood a chance of getting any real popularity.
man…thinking about it, SF4 is just 1 big fucking anime game.
1p is in the lead smackin dat ass. But 2p is sitting on Ultra. As 1p continues rape, he misses a link/2p mashed out a move that beat said poke, Ultra. GGPO
the usual “i’m stronger but I’m the main character” syndrome where they make some impossible comeback that wouldn’t happen.
Newer games are about helping people who suck in fighting games–practically neglecting people who’ve been playing the games for years and taking time to learn them. I know that there are “some” things that are good or at least tolerable in SF4 and other games that are newer but–I don’t remember having to worry about things like this too much in older fighting games.
Granted, I will give SSF4 a try but in all honesty, I can see how most of the new characters are potentially going to be countered by what works in a SF2 engine, and the fact that SF4 is so mash friendly and noob friendly. I might like some aspects of SSF4 but I will still prefer older games because I don’t feel like these games have to hold the lesser player’s hand and give them gold stars for not knowing how to play.
You know, the first time I got killed with a 5 hit jab “combo” I almost went berserk on the game disc.
I’m glad Capcom is saying they are tweaking things about the characters but the engine is :lame: . If they make some very basic changes to the engine, I think it will do wonders for everyone.
Yeah that’s true but similar to Abel’s D+FP it’s a very easy way to go into your ultra without using super meter. I’m not saying all characters need a normal that allows you to do that, but it does make it seem unfair that rush down characters (who can be impossible to counter for ten seconds because of block stun) can do that and then I have to HOPE that I guess exactly what they are doing so I don’t get 50 % of my health knocked out.
I’m not a tourney level player at all. Just can play solid, my execution sucks but I know how to play decently. Most of the players who beat me in SF4 almost across the board are simply waiting on the ultra opportunity. They play reckless UNTIL they get their ultra and then THEY REALLY PLAY RECKLESS.
Opponent: :nunchuck: “don’t fuck up! you know the ultra coming! i didn’t hit u o nos! wait, whats that? FADC BITCH, throw? no! Shoryuken ho! FTW FTW!:wow: What you still alive? I’m whiffing specials building meter! Here I come again!”
Ono can’t make a fighting game to save his life. There are no new mentions about the ssf4 mechanics yet so its impossible to hate on the game as of now. I still see the ultra is there and that was a main concern of mine. Sadly, it doesn’t look like it be removed @ this point :shake:.
When you look @ the transition from ST to alpha, alpha 1 was sorta bobo but a2\a3 were both very good games. Fast paced and very technical. @ the time, players were into that. A2\A3 overshadowed vampire savior which was released @ the same time and that game is BEYOND technical. Very deep engine mechanics and super fast game play. We wanted games that forced you to practice to be decent and you had to practice harder to be good. Somewhere along the line, its gone from fast echnical to slow\user friendly. IMO, Ono is destroying the aspects of SF that make it good. This watered down crap is so horrendous, I’m not even sure you could call it a proper fighting game. I could name obscure fighting games that are much, much, much better than sf4 like tobal 2 or TMNT tournament fighters. Tobal 2 is more worthy @ being @ EVO than sf4, seriously.
Ono makes games that sell well, thats his job. He can’t make a good SF game if his life depended on it. IMO, capcom should regroup the team that made VS and have them make the next SF game. They’ll do a much better job than Ono ever could.
*It’s not a literal ten seconds but it’s in some strings it’s seriously anywhere from five to six real time seconds.
Rufus in the corner. (Galactic tornado, dive kicks; EX if you have meter messiah kicks).
Abel is very similar with super meter.
Viper can hold you down a while but not that long.
Everyone else can do similar stuff with FADC but against Rufus and Abel you can seriously spend a load of time blocking and being unable to counter at all without mashing out SRK and simply trading.
Granted, SFIV and BB have some (pretty fucking major) flaws, but this happens every time a new fighting game of any sort of merit comes out. Give it a few years (or CS bombing) and people will be singing the praises of CT and SFIV. They bring fresh blood, and that’s the only way the scene survives.
I never brought into the whole “second coming of fighters” in 09 hype. The genre pretty much reached it’s peak almost a decade a go. Most of the new games are really wack compared to their predecessors. I think though that as a fighting game community we’ll natural try to promote fighters when ever they come by.
Only game that really surprised me was KOF 12 and that game is long overdue.
Gaming as a whole has become about graphics over substance, poor game design, ripping people off with DLC and last gen gameplay [watered down that is] next gen graphics. It’s why I stopped playing video games as much as I used too. Most of the genre’s I played have gone down this route and the only genre’s that are going somewhere are shooters which I’m not a fan of.
I think a lot of people are just scared of change. New fighters attempt to inject some much needed life into the genre by introducing new functions and gimmicks that are often pretty interesting. I like having to learn complicated systems and stuff like that. Old school games are far too simplistic.
So scrubs being able to mash shortcut motions and mash out of blockstrings, and be rewarded for not making intelligent choices makes the game more skillful?
I’m not quite understanding how this makes sense…how is a game that caters to people who sucked at SF more skillful than games where people actually had to learn how to play?
You have some idiots comparing fighters in the early days in terms of balance to how they are now. I mean your talking about a time when many ambitous fighters were just coming out and comparing them to the same franchise now after some many iterations later. Lots of 90’s fighters were broken, because they were trying new shit and ambitous shit. You can’t get credit for applying the same tried formula.
Somehow I don’t think something like Guilty Gear or Melty blood can be considered a game for people who sucked at SF. Just a different kind of fighter. Every time I tried to mash out of blockstrings in SWR: HS it didn’t seem to work.
I’ve always found command difficulty to be stupid. Players should have easy access to all their techniques and not have to worry about dumb inputs so that they can focus on their strategy and reactions, not fumbling about with buttons. Command shortcuts are intuitive and conveniant. You’ll find that as we move into the future, things tend to get more conveniant, such as toasters with built-in egg timers, or cheese that comes from supermarkets. Now I can enjoy quality cheese without having to waste several weeks making it from cow juice myself. Ok, those examples were pretty stupid, but you get the idea.
A lot of street fighter games have a simple but effective system. However, I don’t find that very stimulating. Like I’ve said before, I like high-octane combo fighters where I need to learn a lot of different systems, statistics and long, involved combos other than just yomi and footsies.
No-one was complaining about GG or MB in this thread…
Edit:Looks like I got the wrong end of the stick here but with that post who can blame me, on the one hand talking about “dumb inputs” and on the other talking about wanting “combo fighters”
