impale adds 20% more dmg to your abilities crits so when you do crit with overpower, bloodthirst etc…they just hit harder. suleman is shit stirring or hes just really dumb saying impale is a waste of points
if you plan to do mc and bwl you need 200fr unbuffed with both rog and warr
impale is a 20% boost to your crit damage BONUS. This doesn’t mean that if you normally hit for 100, and thus your crit is 200, that you’ll be critting for 240. Instead it’s:
Damage bonus + Existing Crit damage = New total
where damage bonus = 20% (crit damage - normal damage).
using the 100 damage as an example:
(0.2 * (200-100)) + 200 = (20) + 200 = 220.
whereas if it was a direct-to-damage application, it would be:
200 + (200*0.2) = 240.
If it were a direct boost to overall ability damage, then yes, impale is incredibly good for weapons with massive damage. But for now, at least for dual wielding, it’s a pretty subpar substitute for damage over DW Spec. You’ll barely see a damage change if you’re using a fast weapon (thunderfury, warblades of the hakkari, etc.), but slow ones will probably benefit the most (brutality blade, vis’kag, what have you). Impale is seen as a “waste of points” because you have to take some not so great dots (if you’re not arms) in order to get a boost to “bonus” damage instead of directly to damage from abilities.
In short: if you’re wielding a fatass 2her. Go nuts, get impale. If you’re dual-wielding, your burst damage gets a minor boost, whereas dw spec means more rage for abilties per minute, as well as more damage.
I’m running with a hanzo as my offhand until I get a purple with the same speed from raiding. I’m supposed to get a brutality blade to replace my main hand. The hanzo I’ll probably keep for quite some time just because of how fast it is. It makes my rage meter got thru the roof.
Like Bucket of Truth said, yes, you’ll need FR gear (and probably NR gear too) for endgame instances. The only problem is that it’s difficult/impossible to get 200+ FR just from running endgame PUG instances like Scholo, Strat, UBRS, etc. My FR is a work in progress (132 right now, which isn’t bad but not great either), but I need to get some FR bracers from BRD, FR enchant from Argent Dawn rep, and probably expensive ass fire res rings that’ll rape my wallet for free. Even then, I’ll never break that 200 mark without epic gear.
The biggest problem you’ll come across is that guilds are looking for experienced/geared players, so it’s highly unlikely you’ll get into a guild that is already running endgame instances like ZG, BWL, MC, etc. It’s kind if like finding your first job: no one wants to hire you because you have no job experience. It’s hard starting out.
It also doesn’t help that you’re a rogue. Typically guilds are full on rogues and warriors first. You only need so many warriors for one, and two, rogues are a very popular class and fill up raid slots for guilds very quickly. Work on your FR gear and such and start looking around once you’ve completed all of your attunements.
Re: Impale. It’s hardly the worst talent a Warrior has, but as mentioned its boost is to bonus damage. Which is why I avoid it, even if I end up trying a 2H Fury build.
Of course, that’s just what suits me. Most people don’t like Improved Cleave, but I still use it. :nunchuck: It suits how I play, and to hell what people say about it.
Re: Tanking. ou don’t need a single point in Protection to tank well. As long as your gear is up to the task, Arms/Fury and Fury/Arms can tank with little difficulty. Of course, Protection REEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAALLY helps, but it isn’t essential.
Suleman: yeah, the general consenses is that as gear scales up, Fury outperforms Arms, but Fury isn’t for everyone. Nor is Arms. Spec should sync with how you play, not what the internet says is how you should play.
From what I understand it’s MUCH easier to solo in WoW; you can spend a lot of time waiting around to form a party in FFXI, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find people willing to accept you if you get too far away from standard builds. Evidently FFXI is very rewarding once you get a foothold and some friends, it’s just getting to that point that is tough. Requires a lot of patience.
That’s just what I was told from somebody who played both, and I thought I’d share it because he was pretty objective about it. Personally I’m scared of getting hooked and therefore avoid these types of games. Take it for what you will.
interesting. im rocking Deathbringer mainhand and Brutality Blade offhand. i still dont know what enchant i should get on the offhand, crusader, agi or str?
Well, logic would tell me that Crusader is probably your best bet, since Fury wars are meant to be swinging a lot and rather quickly. Crusader will probably proc quite often.
What’s your main hand weapon? Quite honestly, Crusdader may be good on both, but it’s probably best you have Crusader on your mainhand and something else on the other (maybe Fiery)? Since Crusader’s proc is “chance on hit”, it’s best to put it on your mainhand because your off hand weapon will miss more often.
On a side note, I was reading somewhere (I think the Rogue forums?) that Crusader procs about once every minute on a decent speed weapon (somewhere between 2.00 and 3.00 speed). However, I think it’s best to ask the tech heads over on the Warrior forums about what you should do with your enchants. On a side note, I hope Righteous Orbs aren’t outrageously priced on your server.
As for which enchant, if you’re a raiding warrior and you’re dual wielding go for +15 str on each. I’d rather a constant 60 AP boost than 200 AP every 1 min for 10 sec…
the proc is alright. but i mean the health you gain from it is really not much.
I had dual swords with lifesteal and Heroism charm. and when all 3 procced it was pretty sweet cause i got a nice chunk of health back.
but
Whats the point when a bastard who has crusaders on which proc +health and +damage…
it pretty much mutes your lifesteal procs cause he will just hurt you to make up the life you did gain.
it is pretty sweet in PVE though.
but i went with crusader in the end. the benefits are just too sweet and the proc really does feel like it makes a difference in a fight.
There’s just too many variable situations to dictate which enchant to get. Of course this is coming from a rogue with full bloodfang + dual lifesteal. Holy fuck the regen was insane during PVE.
