Could somebody post me up a standard build for a good warrior, non PvP? And a description in layman’s terms? I’m a total fucking noob at this game and I don’t want to waste points so I’ve just saved all the ones I have until now.
If he’s fury, he should still have 5/5 parry. That parry will keep the damage off in pve if he ever grabs agro. And he’s going to have to tank sooner or later… Improved cleave… i guess isn’t a bad idea. Heroic strike pulls too much agro, cleave doesn’t.
I don’t have my character linked up anywhere, just at commander right now - and i’m arms until better gear shows up.
I still stand by my rend line comments. Practically useless for fury - and a waste of a LOT of talent points… unless you use a two-handed weapon. You’re saying it adds much to his bloodthirst… but the points would be better spent in something like improved battleshout.
Quit stiring shit uup and get the facts for yourself - don’t call me dumb.
edit: Oh, and anger management is worthless.
I’m not a warrior expert, but I will tell you that there are a lot of warriors out there who suck. People say that healers are the most important member of the group, I say warriors. There are a lot of warriors out there who can’t hold aggro, and only pay attention to what their attacking. Remember, your job in instances isn’t to deal damage. It’s to take all the hits. If you’re taking all the damage then your healer has one person to worry about and that’s you. Most of the wipes I’ve had been in is because the warrior can’t hold aggro.
Also, I’d stay arms/fury if I were you until about level 60, having a shiled and another melee weapon is slower to level up.
So I shouldn’t use a shield at all?
Pretty much. Even if you’re arms/fury you can still hold aggro with sunder armor, heroic strike, and other crap i’m forgetting. It’s not too hard to do up to SM, that’s all I know since one of my alts is a warrior.
Killing with 2 swords/maces/whatever or 2hander = more dps which means you can kill faster and level up faster. Killing with 1 sword and 1 shield = less dps which means you kill slower and level up a bit slower. It’s really up to how you want to enjoy the game, but I want to hit 60 asap so I’d go with arms/fury.
Only use a 1H/shield when you’re tanking. For grinding/PvP, use a 2H or DW depending on your build.
Meh I just started WoW, right now I got a lvl 13 Paladin. Just did Deadmines for the first time yesterday.
what server are you on?
are these guys all from srk? wow no one is on
We need more srkers in hellscream. I’ll even help you level faster and help twink your character up. Message Ajac for an invite. We got tons of active low levels in the guild who can help you run vc too.
Use shield for instances, honestly, you get a lot more aggro-gaining abilities which basically make an instance cake. If you use shield block versus mobs/bosses that hit you with physical attacks, you’re guaranteed a revenge. If i remember correctly, one revenge is equal to 2 or 3 sunders in terms of threat. Something you might wanna try is either pull with a gun/bow, pop bloodrage, use one or two sunders, shield block, then revenge. If it’s multiple targets, sunder something once or twice, pop shield block, switch target to smack it, then hit it with revenge. voila! insta-aggro.
You also get shield bash which does meager damage, but generates a lot of aggro because you’re silencing a target (if it’s casting). It also generates quite a bit of threat in it’s own right if they’r enot casting, but because it costs so much, you’re better off trying to land a few more sunders.
For grinding though, you’re going to put the shield on the backburner and either go Dual Wield, or 2her. Early on, both are viable choices for grinding. 2hers are slow, but hit very hard, so things tend to go down quickly. Dual wielding mean you’re swinging a lot more and getting more rage, but, for the first 30 levels, you don’t have anything to burn the rage on instantly, AND, you have 24% chance to miss. Both will end up killing stuff at about the same rate early on. So it’s your choice at that point. here’s some cookie-cutter builds for arms and fury:
If i remember correctly, that’s what a typical 31/20 build goes like. You want the impale line for bigger crits, the 2h weapon spec for more damage in general. The weapon spec (sword, mace, axe, polearm) is really up to you; i guarantee you’ll be changing your spec up a few times, mainly because you’ll pick up some 2her you really want, but it won’t be of the weapon class you’re specced for. Deflection is nice 'cuase there’s that chance you’ll proc revenge, which is great for tanking. But not sure if you’ll invest a full five. But then again, i could be wrong.
If ever there was a cookie cutter build for fury, that woul be it. It’s basically the best route to go if you’re not sure if you want to stick with Dual wielding, or go for fury 2h. You get the impale line and flurry, which both are complemented by imp overpower (basically guarantees you proc flurry AND deep wounds).
In both builds, you’ll see the imp battleshout. Trust me when i say that you WILL notice a huge change when you don’t have 5/5 in it, and when you do. it’s very helpful. Getting imp intercept + piercing howl are basically leaning more towards whether you’re going to pvp more. They can be helpful in instances too, but, imp cleave may be a better bet if you’re going to pve all the time (it basically brings your cleaves up to an MS amount of damage; moreso with deathwish on).
Unbridled wrath will also be an “acquired taste.” Some people swear by it, others see it as being of little benefit. So you might want to consider booming voice, considering it brings up the timer of your battleshout by another minute. That’s one less battleshout you’ll have to be casting. Over time, that’s a lot of rage you’ll be saving. It also helps in pvp when a rogue vanishes, because you’ll reveal them when they’re at the distance for an intercept/charge.
Cheers.
This isn’t always the case.
Generally its better to use a sword and board until A) your gear is so absurdly powerful that your rage generation in most instances is crap, in that case, bust out 2weapons/2hander and you’ll get more rage from DPS and from taking more damage. B) when you’re not tanking anything that actually hits like a truck, things like the whelp room in scholo its better to just use a 2h since it usually wont make a huge difference if you’re actually “tanking” the mobs, you’ll help drop them quick and an aoer will have the majority of aggro anyway. unless you meet those two cases, bust out a shield.
I’m aware of that. Didn’t come to mind when I posted I guess. Good info for Colt Steele though.
Also, Colt, Warrior 101: Always have your tanking/dps gear in your bags so that you can switch out during an instance or are grouping with people.
Thanks for all the advice, guys. Bits and pieces went over my head(like I said I’m a complete noob at MMOs in general and this game in particular), mainly the abbreviations and such but I’m picking up more and more of it as I go.
That’s cool, CS. Everyone had to start from the beginning i guess. Some mods i definitely recommend, to make your experience a little more comfy, are ItemRack, Scrolling Combat Text, and DamageMeters. Depending on how much you end up liking (or hating) tanking, KLH Threatmeter is also very good. Here’s a rundown:
ItemRack - This mod allows you to store as many different equipment combinations as you’d like. This works awesome if maybe you want to switch from tank equipment, to pvp/dps equipment or maybe a hybrid. For example, i have a set of tank and dps, but, i have it hotkeyed so i can switch my weapons at the drop of a hat. So if there’s a really bad pull, i know i’m going to die, i can switch to having no weapons so i minimize as much repair cost as i can.
SCT (scrolling combat text) - This mod is nice because it keeps track not only of the damage you take, but also gives you messages such as when your health is getting low, when someone has dodged (for overpower), when you gain or lose buffs/debuffs, etc. It’s nice for keeping track of everything in real-time.
DamageMeters - These are the bane of a raid group really, but it’s handy for things other than measuring your e-peen. I use this to keep track of how my dps (not overall damage) compares when i get new weapons, or i’m mixing/matching gear. It also measures my actual crit percentage, highest damage recorded, etc. It’s very versatile in what you want it to report to you. Most people will want to keep track of their damage compared to the rest of the group, and that’s great, but often this makes people go all out (when they’re not #1 on the list), causing wipes because of aggro. So just be careful not to get caught up in that mess.
KLH Threat Meter is a new addon that i haven’t tried, but our MT swears by it. It keeps track of people’s threat, and basically yells at you when someone else has stolen aggro from you, as well as the name of the person for easy targetting (to find where the hell you’re going to be chasing the mob too).
If i can help in any other way, come on ED and send me a tell or ingame mail or something. Always fun to talk to warriors

What do you guys think about stun lock rogues in bg pvp, and duels?
in 1 on 1 duels, rogues who can get a stun lock on would win.
But in BG it’s almost impossible to get someone on a 1 on 1 duel.
In BGs their uses are limited to ninja-ing a flag most of the time, or slowing down the FC for a good 4 seconds before the support drives them into the ground. Rogues are great for protecting a flag if you don’t have a paladin. They are hard to spot, and, even when you do, they’ll stun you enough so that you’ll never take a flag/claim an area in conflict. The problem is when you’re left alone to take out two people. sapping one will keep that one at bay, but if they can trinket out of it, or use some class ability or racial, the rogue’s in for a “treat.”
The only char I have is on eonar I think it what it is called. It is the server my coworkers are on so I joined it. They were bitching about how they needed a Healing Pally.
wha? rogues are pretty weak in duels, cause the element of surprise isn’t on their side.
Plus when you duel you are at full hp; rogues look for people who are half dead and sitting down eating or afk lol
now warlocks, those guys are nasty fothermuckers :annoy:
