Few questions:
-Any plans to reprint the first SF collections at any point?
-How many volumes will the manga 1520 be? I can’t find much info about it online, but it looks nice.
-Are there any more Street Fighter manga ya’ll will be bringing over into English?
-Whatever happened to Rival Schools #3 and 4? Did it get cancelled or did Rey not ever finish the story?
-Finally, any advice you have for someone looking to get into the whole print business? I’m a soon to be graduating English major thinking about my options, and wondering if maybe working on Chinese-to-English translations would be a cool idea. Any tips?
What happened to Alvin Lee? What’s he working on now and why did he stop drawing the SF2 comics?
While I’m at it Arnold Tsang? What’s he up to now? I’d love to see these guys contribute to the SF comics somehow.
Fingers crossed that these guys will have a crack at the SFIV backup stories.
Still I have total faith in Chamba, Omar and the gang. Can’t wait!
Also must be a bit of a challenge Working on storylines for SF2 SF4 and SF3 without giving away too much of one story and how it relates to another title.
'Sup, Matt? It’s cool of you to take the time to tell us some info. Much appreciated!
Just curious; what’s the current release schedule for the Robot series?
I read that the delays are due by the company’s behalf in Japan not sending you the stuff you need/have, so I’m wondering is this is causing you guys to push everything back, release-wise.
Wani seems to be slowing down on publishing themselves (currently at Vol. 10), so you don’t have a huge backlog.
If you don’t know, that’s ok. My friends and I agree that you’re handling the series better than DMP did. :wgrin:
despite what stupid things Capcom is doing/does, Udon has already established sf 3 as part of the same universe which it OBVIOUSLY is anyways. Yun and Yang have already been in the comic and the sf 3 comic will continue the story after sf2/sf4. One big flowing beautiful story curiosity of Udon.
We?re currently out of stock on most all of our posters with no plans to reprint, however we are considering some new poster ideas.
Like Erik said above, the big names in American comic book writing are generally not SF fans. Not to say we will never let anyone else have a go at the property, but Ken?s doing a great job and we?re not looking to replace him any time soon
All of our SF books are one absolutely one universe.
Can?t give away much, but Alex will be one of the lead roles definitely.
KoF unfortunately doesn?t have anywhere near the audience that SF has in North America so it?d be tough to do a comic series here for it. Not that we wouldn?t love to, but as of now it probably would be a viable project.
Good so far, and reorders are still coming in
Oh, it?s very possible there will be more Tributes in the future…
As for the artiss of SF Tribute, we did let friends of the studio know about the project early so they could get their pieces in. These are guys like J Scott Campbell, Gabe, Mark Brooks, Sean Galloway, and all the UDON regulars. Of course once things got rolling, a lot of other pros also wanted to be involved. Probably 2/3 of the book is from either fans entering in our submission contest, or pro?s who heard about the project through the grapevine.
Well UDON?s origins are long and complicated…but the short version is we started as an art house, and eventually learned enough about publishing to try it ourselves. Today we still work plenty in both publishing and creative services.
As for UDON?s connection to Studio XD, the two groups were never one entity (that is each started on it?s own at different times). But, both companies started out as art houses in the Toronto area, and there are lot of friends between the two groups. Because of these we?ve worked plenty together on projects and on each other?s projects.
We would consider publishing any quality titles regardless of origins. So far we?ve stuck with East Asian books for our localized products just because those are the titles that interest us the most.
Just something fun we wanted to change up. Plus the Alpha 2 ending that features the headband scene was born out of the Alpha game plot, and as I?m sure you know our comic universe is much different from any SF game.
We do try to keep the SF trades in print (Vol.1 is currently on its 5th, soon to be 6th printing!) Vol.1,2,3 are currently sold out on our end but most retailers still have copies in stores or online. We should have new printings ready in by the start of 2009.
So far the original series is on Vol.4, and still going!
Probably, we?re working on it
Like we?ve said before Rival Schools #3 & 4 did not sell well enough to let us print them. Both are completed, and we do have a plan for getting the full story out to fans. More on that soon.
Well that?s a huge question by itself, but I can tell you that the print industry is a very tough one to work in, largely due to the explosion of other media & entertainment (mainly video games and the internet). Most people in these industries also work as freelancers, so be prepared to do a lot of networking to search for your next job. My opinion, it is actually not tough to get work in comics… but it is VERY hard to make a living at it.
Both Alvin and Arnold still work for UDON, currently doing variant covers or being involved in special projects like SF Tribute. But they?ve each branched out in their own directions to try their hand at something new. Alvin? currently working on various Marvel projects, while Arnold is working largely in the videogame industry doing concept art.
You can keep track on each on them on their deviantat pages:

Arnold: http://arnistotle.deviantart.com/
And on the SFIV backups, the first 2 stories (possibly all) will be drawn by the great Joe Ng. Joe?s been turning in some great pages so far, you guys will be blown away when you see them!
It has presented some interesting story challenges that we have never had to deal with before, but we?re getting by!
Going to have to give you a big question mark on that. We?re currently in the middle of contract renegotiations which have taken longer than expected. But once we have firm dates, the upcoming issues of Robot will be added to the schedule on udonentertainment.com
About the Final Fight alumni, will we see any other than the ones that have shown up in SF?
While I’m at it, any chance of some other random Capcom series getting cameos in any of the upcoming books? Like, say, Cyberbots or Phoenix Wright?
I have a kind of followup question to this. In the last issue of SF2, did Rose disintegrate? I wasn’t too clear on what was happening to her in that one panel and Rose is never mentioned again after that.
I have one big question
When we gonna see Guy in action?Yes that’s right the successor of Bushin style.Along whit Ryu he’s one of my favorite characters and I don’t know why do u still keep him in the trunk “Not so interesting characters”
With 60+ playable characters ( I think…haven’t counted recently heh) in SF, it’ll take us a while, but we’d love to touch on everybody eventually. Guy specifically WILL be showing up in Turbo, along with many other UDON first timers… can’t say more than that!
Also if you haven’t already, you may want to pick up the SF Alpha Manga, which features Guy in a major role.
A lot of the comic readers here play the game a LOT also, so we really liked it when you incorporated the in-game moves in the comic (Chun’s Dwn HK from Gen)
In the new series, are you going to have more of the Supers in the comic?
I’m sure Urien fans are dying to see an Aegis Reflector unblockable!!
Finally read SF Remix 0; wasn’t impressed with the first 2 stories but I will read their series regardless. However, I thought the tournament was called World Warriors and not Street Fighter?
I LOVED THE SF3 story though! Alex was excellently portrayed and the “Yo, douchebag!” line was well done. However…I didn’t like the re-use of restaurant being mugged idea from the first series.
Still it was enjoyable. Good work guys
Questions about Street Fighter Tribute in the stores:
Is it being delayed until almost the end of October? For the longest time its street date according to Amazon was 9-29-2008, but just recently I saw it over there pushed to 10-22-2008. Are comic book stores supposed to have it by now, or are they still waiting as well?
Do all of your Street Fighter comics in your line have to fit into a unified continuity? In the future, do you think it would be possible to do a series (or one-shot or graphic novel or whatever) that doesn’t follow the continuity? One thing that comes to mind is the anthology series Dark Horse used to publish, Star Wars Tales. I wouldn’t mind seeing something like that for Street Fighter.
Granted, Street Fighter doesn’t have the mass appeal that Star Wars has, and I have no idea how anal Capcom is in regards to their property. But a Street Fighter version of Star Wars Tales might be very entertaining.
