While it’s not a “problem” per se, it’s just an intriguing debate that’s been going on since before the Udon comics premiered, part of which is in the SF Story FAQ. Obviously name translation usually equals country of origin (and the dolls lack true bios) but Santamu seemed odd in just how dark she was in the original Capcom image combined with her having a monkey, a spear, and anklets on one leg that are similar to Elena’s. Part of the discussion was reinvigorated a while back by Udon’s explanation of exactly how Juli was German yet part of T.Hawk’s tribe to cover his SFA3 ending.
Thank you very much for doing this, Matt
Without spoilers, can you hint at how much Cammy we’ll be seeing in the next comic series?
Unfortunately, thats all i can think of right now
Hey Matt
thanks for the answers so far! you guys really rock!
-will you still be doing powerfoils like before? I collect them all and wondering if we will see the Gen,Karin, dolls that got canceled as well as Zangief,Balrog, etc?
and will you do them for the sf 3 comic?
:amazed::looney::woot:
The printing costs on the powerfoils has gone way up over time, which is why we didn’t release the Gen, Karin and Juli/Juni foils during the last series. We would love to do them again, but until we find a printer that can produce them at a decent rate, there won’t be any new foils on the individual issues.
You can however find the unproduced foil art, along with all other covers for the first 2 SF comic series, in UDON’s Art of Capcom.
Sorry to hear that, but hopefully you guys can work it out. I have those comics already with the pictures of the foil covers in them ,but its not the same.
Few more questions for you Matt
1- Will Bison have his interest in ryu back? i remember in street fighter #1 prologue section (the one drawn by joe madureira) Bison stated that ryu interested him and that they shall meet again, but since then there was no metion of ryu from bison.
2- is rose dead? are we at least gonna know her fate in street fighter 2 turbo ?
3- what will happen if Capcom brings Gouken back for Street Fighter 4 (which appears to be the case), how can you guys retcon such an event especially that gouken was shown dead in the comics and ryu stated that he buried him
4- Why was balrog in the comics given a different hair cut style than in the game.
5- Are the fighting arenas in the tournament gonna be reminiscent of the sf2 stages.
6- will the tournament have more than 16 fighters in it and can you explain if possible what are the rules of the tournament (how can a fighter advance in the tournament or get eliminated) .
7- Besides the individual stories on the new SF4 characters that will be published at the end of the sf2 comics, is there any chance that some of those new charcaters will have cameos WITHIN the sf2 turbo storyline?
Those were quite a few questions lol thank you for everything Matt.
I have a few questions about Darkstalkers
- Will there be more issues of the Darkstalkers comics/vol. 2 book after the Graphic File?
- Would you guys be able to translate the manga versions of the Darkstalkers series same as SF Alpha, II, Sakura and Ryu Final books? (There’s a ton of them.)
- Would we be able to see a video version of the Darkstalkers comic book same as Street Fighter Round One?
Thanks.
~Kori-Maru
Bison hasn?t forgotten about Ryu. We?ve kept these two pretty separate since the brief glimpse we saw of the last SF tournament. But now that pretty much everyone?s stories are coming together in the tourney, expect Ryu and Bison to cross paths.
All I can say is, Rose?s story is not over yet.
Well, if you think about it we have never followed the game stories exactly. UDON has taken elements from the various games to create our own continuity, while still staying true to the spirit of the characters. That said, we can?t reveal any SFIV story points yet, but we will be working to stay true to the spirit of SFIV even if some events in the game differ from our universe.
Think so? Seems about the same to me, short hair with the zigzag points at the front.
You?ll definitely see some familiar locations
Between the tournament itself and the qualifying rounds there are definitely more than 16 fighters. Some more details about how the tournament rounds functions will be revealed in Turbo #2
No definite plans for that yet but it is possible. The SFIV and Turbo stories are definitely part of the same UDON SF universe.
We`re not ready to announce anything just yet, but there WILL be more original Darkstalkers projects from UDON. At least one next year.
Dont think we
re not working on it. Though these things take time (for the SF manga it took us two years to get the rights!)
That`s up to the Animated comic producers and I would wager depends n how well the SF DVD sells.
Hey Matt thanks for answering all these people’s Qs:
1.) Will we ever get to see Gotetsu, and the fight between him and Akuma?
2.) Have your Street Fighter Door posters been discontinued? I ordered the Akuma one an online sotre a while ago an it still says they haven’t received any more from you guys yet
3.) Any chance you’ll reprint that super large poster featuring all characters from II, III and Alpha?
Is there any chance in the future that Udon would ever hire a “name” writer to work on a Street Fighter comic? By “name” I just mean an established or well-known comic book writer. I’m not expecting Alan Moore to come out of his cave and type the word “Shoryuken” into a script for money or anything. But it seems like plenty of “name” artists have already contributed art or short stories for your SF products. Would be nice to see different writers contribute. I wonder if Warren Ellis or someone would sell out if you paid him enough.
Couple more questions for you matt (i know im relentless :P)
1- Is street fighter 3 in the same universe as street fighter 2 in the comic book continuity since i have been hearing that capcom might consider sf3 a seperate parallel universe/timeline.
2- Will sf3 be the story of Alex or is it a continuation of the main sf2 storyline/cast (Ryu, ken, chun-li)
3- would udon consider doing a king of fighters comic book series starting from kof94 (kof needs a great comic series so bad) if not what can we do to make you guys consider it?
4- how were sales for street fighter remix #0 ?
5- this is not a question but i just wanna back up the guy who asked abt mega man, we do need a megaman comic book (not as much as kof comic series)
Good to know, I would love to see some Rolento action in the comics!
On a side note (but still Udon related) I loved the Transformer art you guys did
(especially this one since I’m a Decepticon fanatic)!
Keep going with all the good stuff!
Props to ya’ll at Udon giving us our Capcom fixes:tup:
Thanks for taking the time to answer the questions asked so far. I’ve got a few of my own.
-
Is it possible we’ll see a follow up to the Street Fighter Tribute artbook? Did UDON pursue most of the artists for the project or vice verca?
-
Just curious: what are the origins of UDON as a company? I think it branched off of Studio XD, but beyond that I’m not sure.
-
UDON has been dabbling in licensing works from Korea and Japan including Evyione and ROBOT. Would the company later consider expanding and showcasing more international talents (from, say, Southeast Asia or Europe)?
Edit: Seconding a Street Fighter Legends: Dan.
We did try contacting a few writers. However, most of the comic guys are totally not into video games. It takes us a while to get them up to speed on the SF Universe, and most of the time, there are proposals that we feel it does not fit into what we have planned, or so out of the SF world that would need a lot of edits and re-writes, ended up most well known artists will not be able to fit that into their already busy schedule.
No one knows SF more than Ken Siu-Chong, that is why Ken is always our main guy for the job. We are still trying to see if we can bring in a guest writer or 2 if we can work it out.
That’s a pretty big claim. Or did you mean just among writers?:wonder:
Why did you change the reason Ryu got his Red head band?
I felt the Alpha 2 battle had more significance, and what you guys did with that seemed kinda lazy, I mean, that fight between Ryu and Ken was one of the coolest moments in Alpha 2. The version in the comics is too casual IMO.
