Official UDON Q&A thread

Matt, you should talk to the big peeps about selling posters again. Buisness should be booming once Street Fighter 4 comes out lol

A few quick stuff-
Please give Zangief some more spotlight and don’t make him too much of a joke character, he is Russia’s hero and can SPD GIANT LIZARDS!
SF ST #3 was good BTW!

A few more things, can you try to NOT make a total joke of Dan and Rufus? I know it looks like they give off the joke character vibe but really give them some serious fights and don’t let them lose like a bunch of wusses.

One last thing, thanks for having Ibuki appear among Cammy, Chun and Viper in the last pages  …but what is Ryu doing there, he seems SO out of place :stuck_out_tongue:

hey matt great job guys,

i have couple questions:

  • why did fei long scream rising dragon in english when doing his special move in issue 3 instead of saying “shien kyaku”

  • is street fighter IV story set at the same time as sf2 tournament? if that is the case then its not really the same street fighter iv story that capcom is doing, i know you guys dont have to follow what capcom is doing but if you guys merge those 2 stories then characters like ryu and ken wont meet characters like rufus or seth. dont you think it was better to leave the sfIV story until sf2 tournament is done so you guys will have a new arc in the street fighter saga. Because if you guys just do it at the same time all you have left for next year is street fighter 3 and then you wont have any stories to adapt after that.

  • is the street fighter IV mini series the story of street fighter IV or a prequel to it ?

  • what are the chances of udon adapting the street fighter animes into comic books, such as street fighter 2 movie, alpha movie and street fighter iv anime.

thanx Matt

-do you have any info on what 4 sf III characters will be focused on the next few issues or is that a wait-and-see deal? I’m hoping for Oro and Necro at least for two of them!
thanks for already putting Q, Alex, and Yun and Yang in the comics! Can’t wait to see what you do with the rest!

Which issue did Q appear in?

Street Fighter 2 Turbo issue #3! He is seen twice on two separate pages!

You actually provided this link earlier- http://www.udonentertainment.com/blog/

he is on the bottom left panel in the audience on the first page I believe(?). He is also seen again. I don’t know where or if it shows his mask or not in the other appearance. I’m picking up a few copies later next week.

Sure. Poster sales died down for a while but, could be a good idea for the summer con season.

Zangief will be showing up in issues 5 &6, so pretty soon!

Well, Dan and Rufus are definitely the goofiest of the SF characters. But for a more serious side of one of them, you’ll want to check out younger Dan in SF Legends: Chun-Li, especially issue #2!

That is actually Joe Vriens’ piece from the Street Fighter Tribute art book. I believe his intention was to include his favorite character from each era (SF I, II, Alpha, III, IV).

I’m thinking Ken just wanted to have the word Dragon in there to play up the Bruce Lee homage.

Our 4-issue SFIV miiseries will be a prequel to the game. It also happens continuity wise at the same time as our Street Fighter II Turbo series, so some characters who flunk out of the tournament could join in the SFIV ‘adventure’, or you will see a character in an issue of SFIV turn up in Turbo the next month.

As for fitting with the game, we’ve actually had access to all the game story material for quite some time, and have worked with the SFIV producers from Capcom Japan to come up with a story that fits with either the game continuity and our comic continuity. Though those two things may not fit together 100%, our SFIV comic will fit with either if you would liek it too…so everybody’s happy?

Not a big fan of straight adaptations, I mean, you’ll already know how it ends!

Not ready to announce it yet but we will post info on capcomcomics.com about the backup SFIII stories before the issues come out. I think though that you will be pleased  We’ll also give each of those issues a relevant SFIII variant cover,

ALRIGHT! Thanks a lot Matt and Udon! You may be smaller than some companies but you are my favorite!
I will be picking up all the sf III variants along with the regular covers and make sure the stores sell out of the comic completely around my area!I want a complete series of street fighter for once and you guys are the best to do it!
The SF III characters getting their own covers too = super sweet!

Oh yeah Q appears in the same page as Rufus, wonder what his interest is in FeiLong.

Thanks for the replies Matt will look forward to those issues.

Thanks for the updates MAtt!!
You always manage to satistfy our burning questions and (I assume) not get in trouble with your superiors for leaking too much. It’s all been said before, but It’s a great time to be a Street Fighter fan.

You’ll learn more about Rufus’ origins in his backup in Turbo #4 next month, including why he might want to be at a Fei Long movie premiere

Nah I figured out on my own that he’s a Kung Fu fan. I think Capcom actually revealed that about him long ago? Don’t recall, but hey I like martial arts movies, I wouldn’t miss a FeiLong action flick

I noticed on your DeviantArt page that the Art of Capcom book was back in print. Does this mean I can order it through Diamond? I was going to get it on Amazon but they have none in stock and I refuse to pay those outrageous prices that other people are trying to sell it for, so I think I’ll just order it via my comic shop. So if they can order it through Diamond could you tell me the code they would need to use? Also the one for the Darkstalkers Graphic File as well. They didn’t get that in and I want to order it as well.

Art of Capcom will be back in stock at Amazon any time, it just hasn’t filtered down to them through our distributor yet.

But, you can also order through Diamond. Just tell you comic retailer that the Diamond order code is JUL073891

Matt, any chance you could continue the Darkstalkers comics in forms of minis, similar to how IDW publish their Transformers comic series?
Also would Capcom announcing a Darkstalkers game encourage continuing the comic series?

Street Fighter Tribute (hardcover)

I am having a hard time trying to get a hold of someone involved with customer support through the sells of this SF tribute book. I have emailed a couple different UDON email addresses that I found on the UDON site.

I pre-ordered this book early 2008, fully paid through paypal, and never have received the book even til this very day.

I have my paypal transaction number if needed.

Can an official please email me back upon my inquiry?

Email: Deycallmeg@hotmail.com

Thank you.

Well, I’ve checked around so I’ll ask here:
Matt, a Darkstalkers Tribute book was announced and would be accepting entries fairly soon in February. Is there any information you can share on that?

Actualyl all of UDON’s comics are already planned as limited series(4,6,12 issues etc), so that’s pretty much how we operate already.

Any new DS announcements would help us get the comic going again. Indeed we are hoping that Darkstalkers Graphic File, and Darkstalkers Tribute will help generate some interest in the property again.

I’ve just e-mailed you, we’ll get this sorted out ASAP!

Yep! The contest is ready to go, head over to http://www.udonentertainment.com/darkstalkerstribute/ for all the details and submission form.

Thanks for the link! I’m looking to submitting some sweat and tears(well, not literally). This book’s gonna rock!

Will Udon be releasing another Ultimate Edition of Street Fighter comics featuring all the Street Fighter comics produced since then?
