Agreed. It’s not as if SF4 will be on Happ, with straight button layouts here in the US. Keep with authenticity of that gorgeous Vewlix.
I’m tired of paying to “import” with HRAPs etc…

6 buttons with a Vewlix/classic Astro City layout all the way. If you can do something like a VSHG and put all the extra buttons at the top, that would be ideal. Where 8 buttons are concerned, I find those extra two buttons really get in the way and get pressed accidentally all the time.
One little niggle I have with smaller home sticks is that they don’t always give enough space to the left of the joystick to rest the edge of your hand. If you had something like the Agetec, but moved the stick to the right just a couple of centimetres it would be perfect in my eyes.
I agree with this, even more after having played SFIV in an actual arcade recently. I was under the impression that all SFIV setups would be the same viewlix cabs. Nope, dead wrong.
You want to know what my SFIV set up is like? It is a Dynamo cabinet, with a Happ Ultimate and CONCAVE buttons slanted like japanese buttons. Gross ass combination if you ask me. I can play on anything so it does not bother me.
A good American stick and layout should not be out of the question, seeing as how there is still a chance a number of SFIV set ups may not even be on jap cabs in the first place.
In a perfect world we’ll get:
A Saturn-pad ripoff for the pad lovers
A “full-size” with American parts
A “slim-line” with Japanese parts
Considering how poorly joystick sales seem to be in today’s market, I doubt it’s possible. But I can hope - it would be awsome to see the entire potential market covered.
Only one issue there… SF4 isn’t getting an American arcade release, last I heard, so… yeah. You’re playing on an import cabinet, so just suck it up and import the stick if you want that kind of stuff.
And if it did get an American release, I can assue you it would use Happ parts and American layout, simply because that’s the easiest to get here, and it’s what the American public’s used to using.
Why did I say what I did in my previous post? It simply makes the most business sense. If they catered to just the SRK crowd,we’re the only ones who’d buy it.
this:pray:
green goblin, 6 buttons
My personal preference is also 6 buttons for small/lap sticks and 8 for larger ones. Just wondering, thats all lol.
6 buttons and not as big as a HRAP, not as small as an EX2. VSHG size or maybe a bit smaller would be the best imho.
now that i have inside info, i can assure you that you are wrong
But i did hear the first prototypes were horrendous. I’m pretty sure this was well before markman and madcatz.
As close to arcade perfect as possible…or The Real Neo Geo’s custom viewlix stick :wow:
**
6 BUTTONS**
If you can, keep it at 6 but put the extra buttons along the side or back of the controller. If Taunts are activated with the START button, then the SELECT and START should probably go on the top panel as well.
**
PANEL ART**
Design these days is very minimal so give the top panel a nice and clean look. Don’t let them overdo top panel art like the MAS stick! If the art must list buttons and joystick directions, then make it blend with the top panel art.
**
TURBO BUTTONS**
Please no turbo buttons. There is no turbo control in SF!
**
INTERCHANGEABLE ART**
This is my wish. Capcom or Madcatz could time release different panel art or we can make our own. It would be the first peripheral with UGC (User Generated Content)! I’m sure it would get alot of buzz. Marketing would probably like this idea.
Thanks!
Oh, if you are gonna include macros and turbo buttons, include a button that disables start. I’m pretty sure someone has mentioned this already.
Hey MarkMan, thanks for asking us about this stuff!
I think eight button layouts are silly, no matter how big or small the controller is.
To me, the classiest setup is a proper six main buttons, one start button, and the rest of the included buttons as mini-buttons; no loss of functionality, still arcade-accurate.
Unless you’re trying to make some monster combination layout with a number of positional possibilities for all sorts of obscure titles, stick with six.
edit: Heck, the six button layout practically defined SF back when it was king of the arcades. If it’s an official SF stick, it had better be six.
Any commercial sticks for PS3 or Xbox360 are going to do well. SFIV is freagin sweet and if they include decent net code, this game is going to get played, alot.
u should start a poll to see … 6 buttons or 8
I don’t really need to start a poll… I was just wondering (for myself, nothing to do with the actual product) what people’s thoughts are.
Most people’s opinion chime in with my own. I like 6 on smaller sticks… however with 8 on a bigger stick like HRAP3, I don’t mind at all. Just my two cents.
And as far as prototypes go for the stick? We haven’t had any available to anyone outside of Capcom. And they were not horrendous. I’m not sure if there were any other companies/people involved prior to me joining in on the project, but I haven’t heard of anything… /shrug.
All I know is man the year is going by fast… It felt like I was complaining about it being March already like last week!
Seven button holes - six with actual buttons, and the 7th Neo Geo button with a button plug.
For everyone posting here. I’ve been invited to Mad Catz HQ next week to test out new accessories and the new ‘arcade stick’ coming out. I created a thread in the ‘Fighting Game’ forum to post questions you may want me to ask Mad Catz. Link: http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=163071
Mad Catz has an office/warehouse right down the street from my house. Perhaps, I should break out the stealth moves to infiltrate the facility and sneak in a few games?
Even though you probably won’t be allowed to, it’d be sweet if you could take a pic of the stick.
I hope you’re right but it’s easy to get tunnel vision posting on SRK. In my life I’m the only person I’ve ever known to buy an arcade stick. I went to a local tournament once and half the people playing were using PS2 controllers! There’s a whole generation of players who’ve never had a stick or possibly even played in an arcade before. To them spending $50-100 on a stick makes no sense.
