I did think it was kinda funny MarkMan’s response with the quickness here:

But what do I know. Like I said, faith in Seth and MarkMan, just cautious about MadCatz.

Sorry to bump an old thread ( ) but for personal randomness sake… what do people prefer for smaller arcade sticks (the size of a Namco or Green Goblin), 6 or 8 buttons? Also for bigger arcade sticks (VSHG, HRAP series), 6 or 8 buttons?
Just wondering, thats all.
Smaller sticks, Namco size, 6 buttons, VSHG or Vewlix button layout.
Larger sticks, VSHG size, 6 buttons, VSHG or Vewlix button layout.
And bump it all you want! Considering you’re the inside man on the whole situation.
I’d like a smaller stick with 6 buttons and another larger “premium” stick with 8 buttons and turbo and all that jazz.
If you were to ask me about preference.
For small stick, I actually like the Green Goblin, but Namco size for traveling purposes.
For Big Stick, I also like HRAP, but VSHG because obviously its smaller and can fit in your bag. 6buttons on all as well.
Green goblin and the Namco stick are great, especially for those who use them on their lap. HRAP size is still pretty versatile. Big enough to use while on the floor and seated in my lap.
VSHG size 6 buttons
anything else is too small
and 8 buttons is just too much
6 main buttons should be the standard imo.
Yeah six is great. Also, please place the start and “xbox guide” buttons some place where I will not hit them due to mashing. Because people love to mash.
6 buttons for life. i think something just like the vshg or namco stick with ALL sanwa parts would sell greatly.
8 buttons for larger sticks, there are already easily modible 6 button sticks out there. Some people use all 8 buttons, its nice to have.
Yeah, even though 6 buttons maybe be preferred, I think having 8 buttons is better. For not just us, there are other casual players out there who might want to have the 8 buttons for games that we might not necessarily play. Plus, it’s easier to go from 8 to 6, then it is 6 to 8.
I love the Namco, but the Agetec would be the best choice if you have to make a single size decision. Agetec size is a good simple design that would work quite well for both home and travel (fuck, I sound like a SkyMall catalog). Maybe just a little wider from the stick to left side for better wrist support. With a good stick mounting plate and properly spaced/sized buttons, it’d be perfect as is and quite easily moddable. Just please make the button layout match the 6 used on the Viewlix.
HRAPs are comfy for my big American hands, but an Agetec sized, easy to mod stick would make the perfect guest/ travel stick. (Yup, sound like SkyMall)
Edit: Start/Select/other buttons/PSX/Guide/et all on the back or sides please.
i think if its gonna be exclusively for street fighter like the 15th anniversary nuby stick, then it should have 6 buttons. i think it makes the balance of the joystick better, plus i just dont like the look/feel of button plugs. i think the vshg with a lexan cover and a different pcb would be the optimal stick. thats my opinion for what would be optimal.
Alright, I agree with Skymall.
Green goblin all the way.
I say this should be made to evoke the arcade feel for where it’s being sold: Happ/iL/clone stick (piss on the stock SFAC Super clone all you like; bottom line is it worked damn well), and Happ buttons in the American straight-across layout for this part of the world. Why? If they want to pull in the old-scoolers and casual players, that’s what they’d remember playing on, and it would feel right.
For the Japanese market? Go for the japanese layout and parts. If people here want that, they can always import.
The old Namco case was mad dope, and the parts were 100% playable even to a Sanwa spoiled kid like me, if Madcatz manages to emulate the original Namco they’ll have one hell of a product.
6 buttons on both the small and big sticks.
yea, screw that.
