Official Starcraft Thread

I think so too.

It’s like top 25 are all Koreans, save for an odd few.

I don’t think anyone expected much to go 3-0 but he totally deserved it especially against flash that was the best game i’ve seen so far lol.

The Grr era is like 5 years ago. Idra doesn’t have what it takes to play SC on a korean level. Draco stint in the starleagues was a joke. Testie is too afraid to join a korean team. But right now he is probably the best bet for beating koreans.

This is actually really fun to watch, I have to say the announcer did a good job for someone like me who was a casual starcraft player and wouldn’t know much about particular maps, the importance of certain units, etc.

Hopefully this is a start of a trend.

When SC2 comes out I’ll see if I can get into that.

so who do you guys play? i play zerg but i need to get back into sc…

cool vids, watched the previous group A matches

Koreans don’t even take the WCG seriously.

If you want to see other major tournaments with commentary, check these YouTube accounts:

http://www.youtube.com/user/VioleTAK (triple commentary)

The best way to follow whats going on is http://www.teamliquid.net/

Basically, we have three main tournaments right now: OSL, MSL and the GOM Invitational. The GOM invitation is an experiment by GOM to officially broadcast matches with English commentary. More details in teamliquid. If you liked this, make sure to follow the links to GOM TV.

OSL and MSL are the two main individual leages.

The Proleague is the main team league.

You will see other minor leagues like the Starchallenge and Survivor, these all are preliminaries to the OSL and MSL. If you go to the teamliquid’s featured threads you will be able to find the OSL and MSL threads that explain how the minor leagues play to determine the players of the leaguees. Its kind of complicated.

I just watched through all of Group A (except the rematches). Matches, 1, 4, and 6 were awesome! Flash is a beast.

Why haven’t the Group B videos been posted?

EDIT: I see there were some technical difficulties causing a delay.

don’t they get bored playing the same game for like 20 years?

maybe idra can beat By.Baby ;(

Netology:
Because the game evolves a lot due to new maps and new strats as the general level of play keeps rising. Like how quick lair -> muta harass is so deadly against Terran, or how Protoss FE -> corsair -> DT/reaver changed PvZ dramatically… and then counter strats pop up. Or old strats make a comeback.
Of course, not all new maps are good (lol 2 base carrier PvT on Katrina), not all strats are good, etc. etc.

Or, people still play it because it’s good.

To be fair, a lot of us don’t get bored of playing a same old fighting game for decades, either. To outside world playing Street Fighter 2 in this age looks insane, but a lot of us can do it. Plus, for these folks it’s career. They play it for living, so they have to be dedicated.

We been playing Street Fighter 2 for god knows how long now and we ain’t getting paid I wouldn’t mind playing SC and making a living off of it. Didn’t boxer made like 300k per year or some shit close to that.

StarCraft is the Super Turbo of Real Time Strategy games. Almost perfectly balanced (imbalances are more likely due to map design), the game is all about matchups, and a great balance of micro (execution) and macro (tactics) management.

As a fighting game enthusiast, you can now answer the question yourself.

you guys make it sound like serious business

should I be playing starcraft?

No unless your a Korean that living in Korea with easy access to top players for practice. SC2 gonna come out soon, you can probably make a living off of it if your good enough.

i don’t want to be a video game superhero athlete

should you be playing ST? Play what you want to, really. SC is fun, though.

Damn, I wish I could watch it with you guys…the stream and internet connection here in the Philippines blows too much ass to be able to watch anything.
As far as commentaries go, I love Klazart. Dood is serious business, lol. Diggity is awesome too. Moletrap is…meh, he’s ok, but I’ll take Klaz and Diggity all the way. I haven’t heard Tasteless yet, though.

Edit - And why take out Katrina? That map is awesome… FE on that map is like, a god send to Protoss players like me.
I think I’ve only seriously lost once on Katrina on PvZ…FE-Sair-DT/Reaver is too much…lol.

It’s a heavily imbalanced map?

Anyhow…

wow Iris beat Stork? Good job Berserker ;o

Still hoping Hwasin and Stork advance, though I wouldn’t mind Hwasin and Iris.
