Official SSF2T: HD Remix General Discussion Thread

you can link them, but it’s very specific to some characters. For example, Daimon can link crouch B into hcb f+P (one frame grab), but a lot of other characters cannot do this with their one frame grab. Vice for example, cannot link hcb f+P from crouch B and neither can Clark (in kof2k2, but he can in 98 for some reason).

Anyway, kof grapplers are more all-around characters than the grapplers in ST…their grabs are good but they have many other tools (mainly powerful pokes and jump attacks, which technically Zangief has as well in the end his game still heavily focuses on getting grabs).

Thanks for the info. I should stop with the derailing though. When KOFUM hits 360 I’ll be asking a lot of questions in the appropriate thread. :china:

Heh says the ST Cammy player!

I know a few people who feel the same way about grapplers that you do, that they shouldn’t be high tier, but that just makes no sense to me. Who cares what kind of character is top tier? Who cares if you end up with Gief-Gief mirrors or Hawk-Hawk or whatever? Gief-Gief mirrors are fun, they’re all about using his footsies, and you only try ticks if you think the opponent can’t reversal. It’s such a weird thing to be worried about, in my opinion.

^everybody hates being thrown,especially nubz.

so where do I go to get the newest info on STHD?

P.S make throws like 3s sirlin!

I hope not. The less this game has in common with Street Fighter 3: Third Strike, the more likely I will take time out of my busy schedule to switch over to Remix Mode.

I would be surprised if we didn’t see some modifications to the throw range, though. Watching Chun Li and Zangief throw you from a body length away is comical.

My main character in Hyper Fighting was Zangief. And in ST, he was my original main before switching to Cammy. I used Zangief in Alpha 2 (early on, before he was considered good). So yeah, I 100% admit I am masochistic in nature.

…get that KOF shit outta’ here! there’s a thread(s) for that already! :arazz:

my take on grapplers. i think making a grappler “too good” makes the game worse as opposed to a different type of character. High tier and top tier is fine. But if its over powered, a grappler would be the worst type of over powered character i would like to play against, IMO. But no grappler is over powered in HD remix so this is moot point =)

With 3 regular throws as well as the awesome ochio, Honda is regarded as a grappler, correct?

so wait…has Sirlin finalized his list of tweaks/changes to HD Remix, or is he still playing with some moves/properties/whatever?

GOTDAMIT MAN JUST GIVE ME ANY INFO

fixed for truth

i’m sure someone will find some god-tier abuse for Gief’, don’t worry.:woot::wgrin:

I think he is, but I definitely don’t know the changes. Probably some last second stuff. Who knows =/

KoF also plays nothing like Street Fighter. Everyone is much more mobile in those games, and KoF grapplers aren’t the slow, high damage, high priority bruisers that they are in most Capcom games. The grab-range on command throws in KoF tends to be much smaller too.

I had the same thought about grapplers being overpowered a while ago. That’s why I think Capcom has tended to make grapplers so weak in more recent games. Better safe than sorry, cause no one likes getting thrown to death, lol. Seriously.

On that note, I really think they should implement the tick throw safety features of the modern SFs in HDR. I’m referring to the throw-immunity time you get when you come out of block/hit stun. Either that or make reversals easier to do.

Haven’t there been strong rumours before that Sirlin had warpped it up, only to be disproven later? Like a few months ago, there was some semi-official word that just the art and netcode were left, which was the accepted belief until S-kill told dudes at some tournament that Sirlin is still working on it. Or the time previous where we thought he was done only to have the Capcom blog post pictures of a test session with some of the SF2 OG’s.

My memory’s a little fuzzy here so I don’t doubt I got some of the specifics wrong, but my point is we’ve thought Sirlin was done before. My guess is that Sirlin has thought this before, too. Like he decided he was done, only to think of some more stuff later and re-open his endeavours just because the game’s release is still waiting on other things. They just told us that only the art and netcode are left again. Maybe they’re just trying to emphasize the point that Sirlin’s balancing act isn’t what is holding up the game’s release.

Knowing whether or not he’s done changing stuff really doesn’t affect us one way or the other, and we don’t even know for sure whether or not he currently feels he’s done. I just won’t be surprised if we hear he’s at it again. :bgrin:

well, james mentioned ac pot in his statement and that game plays nothing like street fighter. i mentioned kof’s grapplers to show that the correlation he tried to make is merely a coincidence.

Yeah, James, I have to say this is a subjective thing you’re suggesting. So many Guilty Gear/Smash/KOF/3-D fighter players think games are worse when fireball characters are top-tier - why would your view necessarily be any more legitimate?

Also, the main thing about AC Potemkin that frustrates people is not his Potemkin Buster game, but the combos from his unblockable Slide Head. I don’t see how that fits in with what you’re trying to say, as it’s not really a comparable case to those of other grapplers.

Has there been any information about changes to Dhalsim? Front page doesn’t seem to say anything about it and the last few pages don’t have anything either.

If I understand correctly what James is getting at, I have to say I agree.

Specifically in the context of SF2, I think that having a very powerful grappler would dramatically change the feel of the game as a serious, competitive game. In SF2, Gief is awesome when he gets in against anyone, and all the characters who have an advantageous matchup against him rely entirely on their ability to keep him out. Imagine if Gief is top tier, and many characters just have a hard time keeping him out: a lot more people would inevitably play him in tournaments, where he’ll just steamroll fools, and most of the cast.

I don’t doubt that powerful grapplers can and do work well in other fighting games, and my above description doesn’t even seem particularly bad to me, but does it seem very SF2-esque to you? It’s a significant difference, I think.

It’s not that I want Gief to suck, it’s that I want SFHD to feel like a SF2. Make him better, just don’t make him really good.
