Official SSF2T: HD Remix General Discussion Thread

Balrogs portrait > Everyone elses

I’m 30 times more hyped for SF4 than I am for this game. This is the complete opposite of my position from just a few months ago.

Yep I’m in the exact same boat as soon as Fei Long was announced

I feel exactly the same. My guess is that a lot of people feel this way.

The only things that hype me up for this game are character changelogs and match vids that have characters other than Ryu and Ken playing.

I stopped playing the beta like 2 weeks after I got it lol This game is taking so long its killing the hype

same here!

this game really needs to come out now and if it needs some fixes they can do it through patches.

on the bright side, udon has announced that they are done with art of hd remix: http://streetfighterblog.blogspot.com/2008/08/ssf2thd-remixs-art-is-officially-done.html

…about damn time.

They’re done with the art great! now they have to work on…everything else!!!

At least rockband2 is launching this fall so I’ll have something to keep me busy while I wait for ST wemixedupthedate .

…they should just release an arcade version, if for the only reason for the Japanese market.

…then maybe it’d have a chance to be at SBO!

…or not.

I dread to think what the Japanese would think of the ugly-ass pretend anime graphics of this game

You guys should be hyped because Sirlin said he balanced SF.

So… the game should be out now.

Sirlin and Seth all said the game would be released once the art is done, since that was what was holding the project up.

So now.

Or now…

or how about now…?

sigh

Same here, im going down to Chinatown Fair this weekend to play SF 4, to fix my street fighter needs, and to see how Mr. Zangief is doing.

Balrog looks fantastic, the only thing is that he is missing a tooth, oh, no… wait… he is a boxer, nevermind then .

I really shouldn’t have to explain this one: Video games are part gameplay part presentation. It’s an interactive and visual medium. Some want to argue that it leans more one way than the other…others want to claim that one doesn’t matter at all. Most of the people that live by the latter and can’t respect both elements tend to make games that don’t realize their full potential.

Some of you can’t seem to wrap your head around why that portrait is wrong (which requires basic figure drawing knowledge), so I am not sure why you are dogging the conversation. Maybe instead of shitting on the conversation because you’re out of your depth, maybe you should just sit on the sideline and stfu until the thread swings back towards something you know about.

The art matters as much as the design. Otherwise, let’s just play on a blank screen with three color hitboxes.

haha, man, you are damn right.
I like this part right here. ā€œThe art matters as much as the design. Otherwise, let’s just play on a blank screen with three color hitboxesā€

Ohhh, don’t worry about him, he’s doing just fine. Make sure you use his normals, they’re really, really good.

Understood!

I really hate to complain about shit in this game… because I believe the developers are trying really hard to make this turn out well, because I know it’s still under development, because I’m worried if I start hating something it will end up in the finished game to spite me. I don’t know. I’ve just tried to remain very open-minded about everything along the way, and I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it will all turn out perfectly exactly the way I imagine it in my own head.

I can’t let this one slide though.

I get that Udon was struggling with the whole animation thing because it was new to them. (I think the in-game stuff, what really counts, is shaping up really nicely.) However, good old still-images we know they can do well; everything I’ve seen them draw for SF previous to this game–comics, promo art, whatev–has looked notably great. We know they can draw very well when they want to.

So why on Earth do half of the character portraits suck? I’ve tried so fucking hard to love them, I really have, but some of them are inexcusably flawed. It’s painful how they have the balls to show some of these to us as a supposedly finished work and expect any reactions other than extremely negative feedback. Among a host of other, relatively smaller nitpicks, Cammy’s downs eyes and Vega’s flesh-mound of an upper body scream poop and disappointment.

Some of them do look good to me, line-art wise. A few of them look awesome. Still, even these ones that are line-art good leave me desiring a lot in the colour department. It seems like they use the same, limited three or four tone shading palette as they do in-game for the character select screen portraits. Code-wise, are they required to do this?

Can’t they just draw and colour all 17 portraits the same way and style they draw the characters in the comics, and use those? That art is boss.

I’m not even going to name which ones look good and which ones look bad because any person who glances at any of them can immediately tell which pile they fall into. I used to do a LOT of cartooning myself so I feel I know what I’m talking about here; it’s not a character likeness problem, it’s not a stylistic bias, it’s just plain balls-out shitty art.

edit: Mmhhh, comes off a little harsh, I exaggerated a number of things, including the number of bad portraits, but it gets my point across pretty well. I also just decided I don’t mind the shading nearly as much on the portraits that do look good, even like it to some degree. But holy shit Vega shoulder blobs and sternum chasm.

Yeah…unfortunately Evo did little to add any hype to this game. When I was there SFIV pretty much did what I thought it would and sapped all of the energy away from the game. There was maybe 3 or 4 people waiting to play HD Remix at any given time and at least 6 or 7 people standing by each of the SFIV setups on Friday and Saturday. Tatsunoko always had at least like a 15 person line to play on Friday.

I wanted to play it but it just didn’t really seem like anyone was playing it and well…there was only 6 characters. Play 6 characters in a remixed version of ST or play a full version of SFIV on cabs with Sanwa parts and Viewlix HD cabs. Hmmm???

Really sucks to know that pencil drawings are holding this game back from being released. Pencil drawings that apparently SRK members are touching up themselves?? I’m still looking forward to it. Just let me know when Blanka is available to play and I’m on it.

…

I hate the character portraits, I admit it. I also hated the ST character portraits.

But i’d like to play this game in 2008. SF4 will be released on consoles in January in 2009. Releasing this game in 2009 close or after SF4 confirms that it will be buried and will not be bought by the common gamer.

I don’t know what else I can say. I’ve tried to be honest and represent the majority vote for the past year, and I’ve come up against massive hate. I am personally going to buy the game on both systems. But I know that nobody is going to give two shits about it, if its release is anywhere close to SF4. So either there needs to be a major rush…or else we’ll be playing with invisible characters? I don’t know. But this game needs to come out fast, or else it will not sell.
