like otochun said, competitive ST is such a known quantity at this point that it’s more about the players than the characters. player’s personalities come out in the game. only a game like ST can be a conduit for such a form of gameplay, and it’s a shame to see that go, especially when new stuff does still turn up every so often (rise of o.hawk on the tier lists, desk’s discovery of the float bug, etc)
Jchensor raises some good points, seems DLC characters wouldnt be that great of an idea now.
Music packs, more acheivements, more colours (custom edit), extra stages, bonus stages, d.battle, new endings.
DLC characters would be a good idea, this game isn’t just for tournament players. Tournament players could always decide to not allow the new characters, but this will help draw in people. Especially depending on the choices.
You keep it fresh for the newbs, you have the other stuff for the OGs.
Plus, if the new characters are too good, they can always be tweaked. Most games have things that need tweaking even when everything is tested thoroughly before release. The newer characters would probably go through a similar process as the current characters.
You can’t balance every match…was SF2 balanced in the 1st place…things got better by Hyper Fighting (I still consider it the best SF2 in terms of balance).
The idea of new characters added to Remix as DLC is very interesting, let’s put balance aside and think how can it be done. One bad aspect of SF2 is that each version is built over the previous code (talking CE upto ST) without rearranging the older and new code also let’s put in mind that 2D graphic tables have improved light years beyond the old style used with ST.
I’m sure Sirlin meant it as an idea and by looking at the current results, they just need resources and a push from Capcom to get everything done.
Now where is my STHD release date !
Find me one person at evo who would buy a ps3/360 to play this game, pay $$$ to travel to the tournament but not be into SF enough to buy additional character packs. Just being next gen console only and people travelling to play SF prices out the peasants that James is talking about so money is definately not an issue.
Some of the smartest posters in this thread are so narrow minded sometimes, a new game is better than an updated one. Why would you want anything less than the most you can have? It’s not like the quality and balance of the game isn’t already potentially ruined by the new changes.
Anyway, i don’t see new characters being released. Its being released too close to SFIV thanks to all the delays.
Overexaggeration FTW.

It’s a post from one of the techs working on SFHD’s network code. They’ve apparently found the reason for the more frequent rollbacks vs. GGPO. Short version, they weren’t compensating for packet loss on high ping connections.
Cool to see some news coming out, even if it’s a bit nerdy.
While i understand and kind of agree with this, but like you said there’s very little logic behind it. For example, if i wanted to play in a tourney of a game i’ve never played, on a system i don’t own or want to buy, it’s my fault for not investing some money into it. Same thing can be said for extra characters.
But yea i support extra characters, even if only for fun
What’s really funny about this argument is that people are complaining about added features fragmenting the user base, but Capcom’s already done that five times already - the only difference is that before, it would cost you $50 to buy a whole new game.
If you’re worried about balance, that’s a completely valid concern, but the whole argument about splitting the userbase or tournament play is just silly considering that it’s already happened multiple times already and everything turned out pretty well.
i cant believe how long this game is taking to be finished, i say release the new sprites version now and then release the hd remix when its done if it ever gets done!
i actually couldnt wait for this game when it was anounced but it has taken far far too long to do, the lenth of time it has taken has completely ruled out a 3s hd remix!
somebody should make a poll of what will come out 1st duke nukem or this. haha
The HD remix is already done, they’re just waiting on the new sprites.
which sprites?
The ones that aren’t done.
lol i love human nature and its sarcastic way! but serial which ones arent done?
At this rate we’ll get the new characters in 2012.
The ones they haven’t shown yet?
serially
Add-on character talk aside, this was an interesting post on the last page that went mostly unnoticed.
For those of you who are having problems with significant rollbacks and if you have a wireless internet connection to your xbox 360, try using a wired connection instead to see if the problem with the rollbacks are improved.
The cause of rollbacks were determined to be high ping + packet loss.
High pings are unavoidable. Changing ISP might help, but there’s nothing else that can be done when latency is mostly distance dependant.
Packet loss is inherent in the current 802.11 standards (a/b/g), which are the current wifi communication protocols.

Plus, all the causes the wiki mentions. So packet loss will occur even under optimal wireless connections.
It’ll be interesting to see what sort of compromise they’ll do to alleviate the problem.
I’d really be interested to see the numbers of GGPO users on wireless vs. the xbox users on wireless. While GGPO is still obviously a better solution right now I can’t help but wonder if a higher % of wireless users might explain part of the problem.
No way in hell I am using a wired connection. I can’t my modem is one room and the xbox in another.
