This would be a valid point, if systems like Steam actually stopped piracy. But they don’t. Steam games are cracked and available very shortly after release (including Valve titles). Systems like Steam don’t even make piracy harder; the crackers (usually) make it just as easy to install and play as any other game.
If the game is ready to be sent in for approval and possibly be out in about a month, shouldn’t we be getting some character updates? Would be nice to have this thread become relavent again :wgrin:.
I think they’re nervous that the community might again uncover something that needs to be fixed, thus delaying the game further. Sometimes, I think the executive side of game developers would rather release in a reasonable time and patch later than continue to delay while working on the title.
yes, but you have to play on cracked servers (if there will be any) deteriorating the experience.
FPS games provide a server kit for various people to host the game across the world, since SF HD is p2p you only need a central server and Capcom won’t be required to give 3rd parties means of making their own servers -> thus you’ll be left out with your pirate copy.
but mind you… people already buying games on Steam will give this classic game a shot and there’s like 15 million potential buyers
you don’t even have to worry about piracy with such a big market. a big percent of people who pirate games wouldn’t buy them in the first place…
why tax extra those who DO buy games because of piracy others are comitting (who otherwise wouldn’t buy anything)?
This may come across quite neive but seriously will piracy be an issue for a game that will be like $15, they arent asking for $60. I remember when Half-life2 came out I heard Steam’s piracy protection worked very well and they caught alot of pirates. yrrrr
Internet ‘piracy’ isn’t an issue. It’s just a sad excuse used by companies for why their games don’t sell as well as they’d like. As Aquashark alluded to: one illegal download IS NOT EQUAL to one sale.
And as for Half-Life 2, it was cracked/pirated less than a day after it’s release…
i think your right
^ He’s totally right. Any business would rather have your money sooner than later.
I watched over a bunch of summer Youtube footage again (BoD, E3, Evo), high qual and whatnot, and it immediately reminded me of a few things that are surprisingly easy to forget when you don’t actually have the game in front of you and you’ve just been running on your own thoughts for so long.
No new news here, but hype for this should hopefully go fever pitch anytime soon and so I wanted to bring back a few older points of discussion.

The gameplay is definitely more just a rehash of ST. I mean, their marketing told us that but we don’t and shouldn’t believe it until we see it and try it. All the matchups we’ve seen thus far seem to have some really interesting things going on. I mean, you could say that about original ST too I guess and right now SFHD has that new-game factor on its side, but the subtle changes in dynamics seem nice. I know most of us all had our doubts about some of the particulars in character changes but everything we’ve seen thus far suggests strongly that the rebalance turned out well.

The gameplay still flows like a true SF2, through and through. The game is young, okay, and we haven’t seen the whole cast yet, and as it matures maybe the way skilled matches look will change to some degree… but the unmistakable magic of competitive SF in its original and most classic form shines right on through.

For all the tiny little flaws we can nitpick, the in-game graphics are turning out to be fantastic. A healthy reminder of perspective: why waste our time niggling about niggles when the overall package really does look outstanding? I wouldn’t tell anyone they’re perfect–I know I’ve personally hated on bits and pieces of the visuals alongside tons of others, and I have a mental list going of things I do not like, but man… as a whole and in motion, this game looks GOOD.

Even if the netcode isn’t GGPO proper, Ponder said it was almost as good, and that was before the further optimization/tweaking they’ve apparently done since. Sounds good to me! I don’t doubt that its (real, ie. offline) tournament popularity will explode too.
I promise the new soundtrack is going to be amazing. Don’t worry that OC Remix as a whole can be pretty hit and miss with their stuff; they pulled out their all-star team for this gig. Music is a huuuuge passion of mine, and just from the interviews with them I’m absolutely certain they’ve crafted something that is nothing short of brilliant. When this game comes out, if you don’t like a song they put in it, the odds are more likely that there’s something wrong with you, rather than with the song.
Honestly despite all the bullshit, delays, hiccups, questionable choices, and plain shoddy work we’ve seen for this as it was built, it’s shaping up sooo well and–against all odds–my burning interest in this game refuses to die. Doods it’s gonna be awwwwesome.
Good post frog.
Anyways can the fei players give their opinion on his changes? If dream can do to wong the way he is now then fei looks to be very competitive when sthd drops.
Thats a very good question, if the game is going to be release this year, they need to give some new updates for the rest of the cast, so we can get hype again.
I’m guessing that we’ll see a advertising/blogging blitz starting in October. It’s enough time to get the hype restarted without making the (remaining) wait seem to long. I can only hope the crazy response they’ve gotten to BC:R and Megaman 9 makes them realize they have a huge sales potential on this.
I wouldn’t go so far as to say that Fei will be a tournament winning character.
But I think he will definitely move up a couple of tiers.
It all depends on the new recovery of his Flying Kick. If the recovery is so bad that he can get counter-hit every single time, then he will stay lower tier as he is now.
If, however, the recovery is fast enough to block a counter-hit every single time, regardless of which strength Flying Kick was used, then look for Fei to REALLY climb the ranks.
If nothing else, his easier Flying Kick, longer Rekka, and easier Dragon Kick will make him even more fun than he already is.
I also wish Fei had been given a combo-able Low Forward or Low Strong. As it is now, he can only combo Low Jab/Short and Standing Close Fierce/Strong/Jab/Short. Would at least give him some range in poking games as well as add to his weak offensive game.
Yeah, a cancelable cr.strong would be nice.
capcom-unity will most likely start promoting HD Remix next week. In an interview, it was
stated in the coming weeks, they’ll market HD Remix like they marketed BC:R. so next week
is the earliest possible time to do so. Cause there’s no way they can even share all of the
character improvement articles we haven’t read by the time October is over, even if they
started now. And plus they are looking into spending at least one blog teaching people the basics of ST gameplay, so if they are gonna follow a one HD Remix update a week deal,
that won’t leave much time to promote it before it hits this October.
My hope for this game is that the game is more fun, and balance is better. Also that it sells well enough for Capcom to consider a SFA remix of some sort- with Sirlin in charge.
My secondary hope is that finally we can shut up all the which game to use for ST drama dead.
Haha, thanks man. It’s nice coming from you since considering we seem to disagree on so much other shit. I’m just super-excited for the gaaame! :bgrin:
Who knows where he’ll end up tiers-wise, but I hope that everyone in this game will be a truly viable, “tournament-winning” character. It would be cool to see the kind or degree of diversity in SFHD that you see in games like GG and VF. I think that this would be the true reward of good balance, and even though (interestingly) lopsided matches have huge potential hype-factor, for me I think the coolness of good balance does edge that out.
The only sprite not revealed is the Chunli sprite. Wonder why they’ve kept that one in secret?
What? Where have they shown new footage? The six character build at Evo was the last one they’ve shown, haven’t they?
Or are you talking about the char. select portrait?
He meant her sprite, they showed Chun Li’s portrait.the beta has all the portraits.
**
we have yet to see Chun Li, Zangief, Blanka, E.Honda,
Balrog, M.Bison, Fei Long, Dhalsim, Sagat, Guile, and Cammy’s final sprite art**.
the first version of the sprites don’t count, look at Ken now, totally different (and better)
than his original HD Remix art (his hair was too short in the first version, his first version
was too similiar to SFIII Ken in hair length.)
so yeah technically we have only seen Ken, Ryu, Akuma, Dee Jay, T.Hawk and Vega’s
final sprites. that’s all.
I’d love to see Hyper Street Fighter Alpha 2: Street Fighter Alpha 2 engine, the full alpha series cast, refined custom combo system, rebalanced battle system, and of course GGPO latency compensation.
