Official SSF2T: HD Remix General Discussion Thread

Aren’t you the guy that said that the fake hadouken was a horrible idea and that you wanted like a visual “fake” fireball to come out or some crap like that? And you wanted Ryu to get two supers or something?

:X And you mentioned FFXI and POL’s horrible online service.

Woah… I think I’m done. ;_;

Yep, I’m that guy. And I never said that Ryu should have 2 supers. At least get your facts straight.

Just because PlayOnline is terrible doesn’t mean that Capcom’s service would be terrible too.

That’s like a woman going out on a terrible first date with a man, and then deciding that all men must be terrible daters, based on the experience from that first terrible date.

Blitzfu: to set the record straight. ggpo has only been public for 15 months, not a few years. When it was in private testing, still early in HD’s development cycle, ggpo was shown off to capcom(i was there, playing seth when it was going down), and ponder has spoken to capcom on SEVERAL occasions concerning netcode after that, and especially recently, obviously. Capcom has stated several times that they rather try to keep in house and try to replicate ggpo instead of spending licensing fees(and still not own the technology). They simply arent using it for HD cuz its just too late into development to add it, since they just recently acquired licensing rights… Instead, it will go into everything else(…sf4…). It has NOTHING to do with legal issues…

ggpo, is not even illegal. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Even then, capcom is fully aware of ggpo and what games are played on it, and they don’t even seem to mind. So this is extremely moot point.

While cross platform online play will be great, its just simply impossible. Theres no way in hell sony and ms, or even nintendo, allow their consoles to play against others on competing platforms. It has never happened in the history of gaming, and I am 100% certain it will remain that way. And before you even mention it, PC format is not a competing format for market share, so dont even try arguing that angle.

and like what was said before. if capcom or anyone for that matter has to set up a server for the game, in a couple years, we will be the ones that are screwed. Once they decide to close the server, now we can’t ever play it online, again. explain to me how this is possibly a good idea in any type of realistic sense? Cuz let’s be realistic, that would happen. It costs money to maintain servers. They arent gonna keep a server up after a couple years when it basically just becomes the hardcore only audience playing, and the casual players(who make up most of the players) move on to the next fad.

it simply is not a good idea.

That’s why I want a PC port for this game. 360/PS3 are going to die a lot quicker then SF2 ever will.

Then again, we might have PS3/360 emulation by then.

Random players, sure. But I’d figure you’ll be able to build up a friends list of players, and with the upcoming party system in the 360 dashboard upgrade it’ll be easier to schedule stuff.

10 years from now we will? How many of us will have working 360s/PS3s?

Hey, I still got my NES in working order. But definitely, PC means forever. At best, even if systems do get more long lasting, we still don’t want another Dreamcast situation.

I like the idea of a PC release as well, because if this game really turns out better than original ST then it is definitely, definitely built to last forever. I think it should eventually be released on a format that reflects this, even if they want to keep it console only for at least a couple of years.

Well you know, forever until the diiistant future when my Windows Astro OS doesn’t have the legacy compatibility required to run SFHD properly, and it just doesn’t recognize or support game controllers for Nano Hyper-USB^4 plugs, or the ancient netcode can’t handle our new ultranet proton stream connections. Maybe I’ll just have to keep my old computer around for SFHD, and also so I can show my grandkids what a real-life keyboard looked like before they ever even started selling mind writers.

That may be true, but it still doesn’t mean that it’s popular because the Japanese like it, which is what some have claimed of many people here on SRK. It’s a good game! And it took forever for it to become popular in the U.S. How many versions of GG have there been? I mean, it’s only JUST reached this level after XX, Reload, Slash, and AC. It’s built up because it is a good game, not because of the Japanese influence.

(But without all the exposure to the Japanese gameplay, GG would not be very popular here at all, so there is still a strong point that GG is very Japan influenced.)

Nor do I. I think a scene becomes weaker when you have less people to play it. That’s why I gave out all those East Coast / West Coast examples. It has nothing to do with international play nor overseas play. It’s simply a smaller fanbase. ST already has a HUGE fanbase in Japan and U.S. And there are good players everywhere. And being able to feed off each other is a great thing. If HDRemix comes out and Japan doesn’t care about it because it doesn’t fit their arcade scene or it isn’t officially released in Japan on consoles, you are taking a community and splitting it down the middle. That isn’t good for anyone. It has nothing to do with Japan. If HD Remix didn’t come out in Europe, it would suck just as badly, because now Europe has no ability to play with us either.

It’s different if it is a brand new game with fanbases to build, a la MvC2 (which is so completely different than MvC1, it can’t even be considered an upgrade). But HD Remix is, no matter how you try to portray it, an update to Super Turbo. There are no new Systems. There are no new characters. It’s an update. Like Champion Edition to Hyper Fighting. And Super Turbo has a HUGE already-established fanbase. No one here can ever pretend that splitting that awesome fanbase into two distinct groups is a good thing.

So again, I reiterate: yes, we CAN come up with great gameplay without Japan. But you CANNOT deny the influences on a community created by rivalry. Japan has been better than us in ST for so long. If Japan wasn’t there, do you think we’d have elevated our game as high as it is? Maybe, but I still think we’d not be as good as we are today. We could get there, but it would have happened a LOT slower. The motivations created by the rivalry vs. Japan speeds the process up, motivates us, and makes people play harder.

I want to call it the “John Lennon / Paul McCartney” syndrome. The two of them were brilliant together because their relationship WAS antognistic in many ways. After the Beatles broke up, their music was never the same. Was one guy better than the other? No. But there is no question they brought out the best in each other. THAT’S what I like about having Japan play the same game as us.

  • James

most Japanese boot people that aren’t Japanese online anyway.

Not to mention leave if they lose to a foreigner.

or win, then leave so the foreigner doesn’t have a chance to beat them.

i agree with the above example. rivalry and antagonistic relationships can bring out the best in people. i remember when the arcade i worked at had a really good tekken player that was loud and arrogant, and for about a year and a half our whole tournament marketing strategy was “see if you can beat joe!” people either loved him or hated him, but after he finally got into a real fistfight and was banned, people never played that hard anymore afterward, and our scene died with him (getting relocated).

i really don’t think the question is whether or not the CAN play with us, but rather whether or not they WILL.

i sort of don’t think it’s going to be a big deal, since there’s no cabinet to play on. who knows? i guess we will when it finally comes out. all i know is i’m not good enough to worry about the best in other countries, when i’m probably not even the best in a five mile radius!!

Which is funny cause my experience is the exact opposite- Japanese nicest players I’ve played mostly.
Often some of the more interesting matchups as well, as they’re more likely then Americans to play weird characters.

i think this might be the whole “just pick a character you like and get good” mentality that i’ve read is more prevalent in their scene then here, which is “what 3 characters do the experts at shoryuken say are the best and fuck the rest of them”

that gaping generality aside, i’ve seen a lot more diversification on character selection in ST than in like alpha 3 or definately 3S.

Okay so lets move on to the next imporant HD Remix subject.

How much MS points you think it will cost (ex: 400 ms points = 5 bucks.
800 pts. = 10 bucks. 1600 = 20 bucks, etc.)

**Okay lets put it this way, if you were in charge of deciding what the
marketpalce price tag should be for HD Remix, knowing that if you price it
too high, hardly anyone would buy it. and if you price it too low, you can’t
make a decent profit, what would be the best price to set it at? **

SF2:HF was priced at 800 pts. (10 bucks) when it was released.

I’m guessing HD Remix will be priced at least 800 pts. but chances are it
might be sold at around 1000 pts. although most marketplace games
bump up to 1200 pts instead of 1000 (like Bankshot Billiards).

Okay so Capcom knows a lot of people whine about games priced
over 800 pts. heck, people whined that Samurai Shodown II shouldn’t
cost 800 pts, which is silly.

I mean people were lucky Fatal Fury Special
only costed 400 pts and it offered more than Hyper Fighting ever did,
not to mention better online quality.

So if Capcom is feeling generous, HD Remix might cost 800 pts.

if they wanna break it even, possibly 1000 ms - 1200 ms pts.

and if they really wanna take a risk, sell it at 1600 pts.

**but they wanna bring in consumers, not scare them away, so
ideally I see HD Remix costing no more than 1100 ms pts. **

they already stated that it will be more than 800points due to the over budget, among other things. if castle crashers and braid can do well at 1200, no reason hd cant

$10 is too cheap. Pretty sure people will still buy at $15…

but I always thought it would be $20. Seems like they spent alot more money on this compared to other downloadable games :wonder:

that’s what emulation is for. have you heard of DosBox? let’s you run old DOS games in WinXP.
same thing will happen for current architecture when it will be phased out.

anyway: PC release of SFHD (preferably on Steam to cripple piracy)… or it didn’t happen!

I think $15 is the perfect price to sell this game. With Street Fighter 4 coming soon, if casual players perceive that SFHD is “too expensive,” they may pass on this title while waiting for SF4.

Who cares if there’s a pc port or not? By the time 360/ps3 become completely obsolete someone will have figured out how to rip xbla/psn titles onto pc/ the next gen consoles:rofl:

Word is that Microsoft has a plan so that players can play their purchased XBLA titles on the next Microsoft console.
