everyone seems to be forgetting that SFHD is a game designed to be accessible to casual players and played on netplay, which you probably wont be able to do at all with japanese players. it doesnt matter whether or not japan gets this game or even likes this game. the usa is too much bigger and too different from japan to let japan keep deciding what games the us plays, and it doesnt make any sense. japan has NOTHING TO DO with SF2HD
Yeah, Astral, I think weâre just disagreeing on terminology because in general I agree with you. But when I think Otaku I think what we get on the Guilty Gear community â actual god damned otakus.
The people you refer to I generally just think of as âmoronsâ. I see it as less blindless Japan love and more just not being able to possibly have a thought and opinion of their own. Because this sort of stupidity extends beyond Japan â to, like you said, the Sirlin PTW guys.
Iâm not sure if this is going to be a factor here. Usually such an attitude is not entirely unjustified. Again, Japan as we know, has their cramped little Island willed with players that can play more intensely and more regularly then we usually can. Seeing top level play in a game we donât care about often shows cool stuff we never touched upon.
This isnât really a Japanese exclusive thing, as you see some of the niche American communities post tons of videos to try and drum up support (WHP, Blitz, MB) and it works on a smaller scale. Iâm sure if like⌠France found out that KI2 was somehow balanced, fun and playable and posted tons of awesome high level videos, weâd get people jumping on the KI2 train (and then the world would promptly end).
Difference here is that Japan not playing the game has nothing to do with itâs quality or whither they like it. It just doesnât fit their community. I donât think anyone but the lowest moron would not get the game for that reason. While if they played a test and thought it was garbage then yeah, I think a lot of people would second guess the game.
Though really, what games do we like that Japan doesnât like? I was under the impression that they form communities around anything even mildly decent. The only game I can think of is Marvel, and that never slowed it down any.
First-person shooters.
couple of weeks ago playing Halo we actually had 3 Japanese players in our game. :amazed:
âŚthey got ownd
I meant in the fighting game community. I donât think the FPS community gives a damn what Japan thinks, nor do I think anyone but the lamest of individuals donât play FPSs BECAUSE of Japan.
Really Japan doesnât like any American made games for the most part â from what I hear at least. Which is pretty silly.
So thatâs a perfect example. If the StarCraft Community got a patch to StarCraft 2 (letâs pretend a year after that game was released) but Korea didnât, would that be an issue to them? Wouldnât they like to play the Koreans since the Koreans are so good at the game?
But I understand where people are coming from now, in regards to the whole idea that America only plays what Japan plays. But I donât think thatâs true at all. If that were the case, Melty Blood and Guilty Gear would be fantastically popular here, as would Virtua Fighter. I really honestly donât think weâll ever have to worry about that problem.

For the next online Street Fighter (SFIV), Capcom should host their own online servers. Kinda like Square Enixâs PlayOnline service.
So that all international SF fans can play each other instead of having to be divided into 2 camps and having to choose between LIVE or PSN.
Just a thought Capcom.
Sony and Microsoft will never allow cross-platform play, itâs not in their best interests. I donât know why people think they would. Not to mention itâs a silly expense to have when GGPO style is peer-networking model that doesnât require a dedicated server except for matchmaking.
reminds me of time when I told that to a guy around here saying japan doesnât play shooters and he got very mad, telling me that there was actually a strong scene of these old games I canât remember.
There are some nice suggestions here in the first post. But do we have any details on how online matchmaking works for the PS3? What are the features?
Will button macros be disabled in Ranked matches?
Will it be easy for me to find my friends and play against them?
Not FPSs, but arcade style shoot-em-ups have quite a hardcore niche over there.
Guilty Gear is the most popular game in a lot of regionsâŚ
Expect the PS3 matchmaking functions to be worse than the 360s, just on the virtue that Live has more available features built-in to the service that you have to program yourself on the PSN. How much worse, eh.
How could you disable button macros? The console receives inputs only - Iâm not sure how itâs going to know the difference between a macro and whatâs not.
How hard is it now? Thatâs how hard it will be for SFHD.
Ever heard of a little company called Blizzard? Their games are bigger in asia than in the US, lol. (Aside from WoW, of courseâŚ)
Anyway, it doesnât matter if japan likes a game or not. A good game is a good game regardless of where itâs from or who plays it. However, asian players have also contributed a lot to high level game play because of multiple factors, so their value to the community is pretty significant.
My point is, there are pros and cons to having games played on a global scale. Obviously if a game is played all across the world it diversifies the competition pool and improves the rate at which the âbar is raisedâ for skills. In my opinion, it would be awesome to see HDR become big globally (assuming the game is going to be as good as we hope it will be). BUT, if it only gets big in the US i dont think that it makes it any less of a good or competitive game, and i think its depth will eventually show through. The idea that only japanese players are capable of pushing the boundaries of gaming skill is completely untrue.
Iâm talking about disabling KKK and PPP. Key config is software.
If someone uses a programmable pad then fine. Canât stop that. I actually experienced that last night on GGPO. that sucked
PPP/KKK is really a moot point with all those moves getting P+K or PP/KK variations.
Thats not a moot point. And it doesnât matter if its PP or PPP. Its now down to one button with button macros. Look at the HRAP and upcoming SFIV stick. It has 8 buttons on its face.
Lets take balrogâŚvery different now. You canât predict him saving a Turn-Around-Punch anymore. He can play with all six of his attacks and have two extra buttons left over for PP and KK TAP.
Does that work in any other home version of a SF game?
makstaks: if you hold a ppp or kkk button down for tap, you still arent able to use the normals corresponding to the buttons needed to be held down. for instance. you have one of the extra buttons set for ppp for easy TAPâs. You hold the âPPPâ button. While holding that button, none of your punch buttons will function
Thanks sabre. I thought of that and will ask you thisâŚwhat is disabled if the key config was just PP?
If the commands have changed to PP, then the button configs will change to that as well. I guess the fix would be to make it button specific (ex. LP+MP instead of PP). Werenât you in the beta? Maybe you can confirm that.
