yeah, I found that when i first started playing remix too. I’m assuming that it’s because the dragonpunch window is bigger. The effect of this seems to be that, doing the motion slow enough to avoid the dp but fast enough to still get the super is actually more difficult than it was in ST.
Maybe it’s not more difficult ,just ‘different’ (I’d have to test it some more). but it is definitely not the same imo.
while it would be great to have the whole world play remix, I get sick of the notion that if japan doesnt play, then we shouldnt. its a stupid concept. Japan has no problem picking up new games that we don’t play. They play the games they like to play, whether we jump on board or not…cough vf…cough…kof…cough…insert game not popular here…cough. Why should we cater to their scene? Last time I checked, we had our own scene.
Sorry, but I just get sick of this “well what does japan think?” mentality. It’s horseshit. Japan isn’t gonna tell me what game im gonna fucking play. SO japan doesn’t pick up remix. So we lose out on 4 players at evo. We gonna not play a particular game because of that? There’s gonna be games everyone plays, and there’s gonna be games that specific countries play.
Just sick of everyone worrying about what japan thinks. Like i said, of course I would love if everyone plays the game, that’s obviously the best thing. but for people not wanting to pick up a game to play simply because japan doesn’t play. is ridiculous. especially when 95% of the people that say that, have never played a japanese player. it’s retarded!
You’re absolutely right. The problem is SRK has otakus, just like an anime community, who want to ape a distorted view of the Japanese. We have to accept the fact in this community that the Japanese style of FG communities won’t work in 95% of the US. This is why things like great console ports with good online play are necessities here for the FG scene to survive. Fortunately, Capcom realizes this, and they’re ahead of a lot of companies in this regard.
The other thing we need to do is buy this game to encourage future games. Simply put, the FG scene isn’t going to support projects such as this if it isn’t profitable, and if it is, they might do future projects.
Even if you don’t like the changes in HDR, you’re going to get a port of ST that can be played online. That’s worth supporting.
I don’t think this is necessarily the case. Well, not that there aren’t otakus – I mean damn, I’m in the GG community which has more than it’s unhealthy share, but it’s a lot more than that.
Lets face it, Japan does most things pretty much better than us. Their machines are better, their scenes are better, their average level of play is much better and their machines work. They get all the matchup experience and ready access to play with top players. Due to the volume of players they generally find things before we do and develop many strategies and combos first. For the average player, it’s more of a dependacy for a lot of players. We watch their videos, X-Copy their strats and, due to amount of videos of top play they release, we generally are watching their video. Fortunately now we can jump on GGPO and watch Cole or Afrolegends play some casuals, but that sort of stuff usually isn’t available.
The problem is, after all this reliance on Japanese material, most people don’t seem to know when to draw the line. Japan helps a lot, but we don’t need them, ESPECIALLY in ST and especially with netplay now. It’s just engraved too deeply in peoples brains. But it’s different than just sucking Japan’s dick for the sake of sucking it, like Otakus.
That said, when HDR is released we really could use more US released videos for it.
Honestly, these otakus are a large problem with this FG community, and you see it even on this site.
I sometimes think half the people who swear by Sirlin’s guide on playing to win don’t even understand what he means, and they can drown out people who actually do understand it.
Also, you can’t beat the original when you copy, you have to understand why before it really clicks. Maybe that’s the oldschooler in me, but I think you’re better learning it yourself and what you do best- instead of just getting stuff spoonfed from here.
BTW every FG community has its otaku sorts who swear by it but don’t really understand it.
man i’ve gotten into ST recently and have about 200 matches under my belt. I’m very interested to play Blanka vs vega/dejay and honda and see how he fares. I feel that greatly improved success is contingent on the startup of his rainbow roll being miniscule. If people can AA it on reaction then will his gameplay be affected much at high level?
i prefer theory fighter over talking about Japan and its otakus.
who the fuck cares what chinamen are playing we are mighty americans (or at least european) and we dont give a fuck about anything except for chilidogs and some other shit and fuck what the haters (JAPANESE PEOPLE) think we gonna play our own goddamn game made by david sireline and its gonna be wicked
agreed with the screw japan sentiments; I just started playing super turbo a week or so ago and i love it a lot more then 3S, and i’ll definitely be playing Remix when it comes out.
but yeah, no hate on japanese people (plenty on their ignorant fanboys and fangirls) but everyone can make a match vid and everyone can get good at a game. they run differently, and they take to certain games that america just doesn’t play for some reason or another (like vf, an amazing game that i could never find a friend to play around here) and vice versa (Marvel the prominent choice)
Debating xbox live over PS3 is one thing. Telling the man what to spend his money on is another and completely retarded. STOP BEING CHEAP! I KNOW WHAT’S BEST FOR YOUR WALLET! DESPITE THE FACT THAT YOU MAY BE PURCHASING A PS3 FOR THINGS I HAVEN’T THOUGHT ABOUT, DON’T DO IT! SPEND MONEY ON XBOX LIVE BECAUSE I SAID SO! Shut the fuck up already.
People don’t understand that Japan isn’t playing this game not because they don’t want to, but because they have to play in arcades, just like we have to play on consoles.
Just be glad we’re getting a better SF2 hopefully.
This hating on Japanese players needs to stop right now. Don’t jump on some high and mighty “We don’t need them!” bandwagon here. It’s true that we don’t need them, but they sure as hell can help. It’s like Kayin said: it’s not a matter of us needing to ape them, it’s just a pure fact that they have an environment MORE SUITED to discovering new things and perfecting strategies.
I’m not saying America can’t develop as good of strategies as Japan, but the fact that we are saying we don’t care about them is bullshit. Think about it. What if a game (as stupid as this sounds) only came out on West Coast and East Coast players weren’t allowed to play it? Sure, we can be confident that we can still get good at it without the East Coast players help, but wouldn’t we PREFER having them around? Of course we would! The more, the merrier!
This shouldn’t be a conversation about otakus and people obsessed with Japan. Sabre’s point is that we shouldn’t feel bad if Japan doesn’t play, not that people need to stop Japan nuthugging.
But if Japan DID play the game, we SHOULD BE HAPPIER about that. To me, it is a SHAME that it isn’t coming out in Japan also because that creates a divide between countries, and tournaments like Evo (shameless plug) have done such a great job of bridging the gap to the point where players like Choi ARE as good as the players in Japan. If we generate a new divide, it can only hurt us, not benefit us.
Look, I’m not a Japanese nuthugger myself, nor am I any form of otaku (I don’t even like anime… :shy:). But I am always for having the biggest competitive base possible. And if that means I’m VERY sad that the Japanese can’t play Remix with us, that’s what it means.
no doubt. it will suck indeed if japan and the rest of the sf2 fans around the various parts of the world cant play. This is obviously something we all want to happen, with every popular fighter. But it definitely shouldn’t be a deciding factor to support a game or not.
I dunno if it’s nuthugging or not, james, but i do think that many people pick a game just because japan likes it, and vice versa if they don’t like it. It’s weird to me =/
I agree with your point, but you misinterpreted my comment. The otaku I was referring to was the SRK-otaku types who don’t know what they’re talking about at all and don’t think about the games originally at all. Those sorts do tend to be the biggest Japanese nuthuggers, though the lack the understanding of why the Japanese are good. You see a lot of those types around here. Otaku doesn’t mean just anime otaku, there are other types of otaku as well.
BTW I think some Japanese will play Remix, especially if it gets an arcade port in Japan, which I see as quite possible. It’s not like they CAN’T buy the game- it is getting released there, it’s just that they don’t have a console scene like we do.
Also, in the scenes we support strongly as Americans, we are capable of producing players that match up well with the best Japanese players in most cases.
