Official SSF2T: HD Remix General Discussion Thread

To be honest with you I disagree. SF4 runs on the Taito Type X2 board which in essence is a computer. The board runs on Windows XP. So porting of the game to the 360 will be cake, whereas the ps3 will have to be fine tuned a bit longer for it to run well.

A prime example of a shitty port on the ps3 is Half life Orange box. Look at how well it runs on the 360 and how crappy it runs on the ps3. A lot of it has to do with the extra cores that it runs, but when the cores are coded properly the game runs like a dream. Prime example of this is MGS4.

Actually, the biggest reason that HL2 runs so shitty on ps3 is that porting was outsourced to some small EA studio. How many EA games do you know of that run ultra-smooth? Don’t worry, I’ll wait.

Porting to the ps3 isn’t as crazy of an undertaking as it seems. A lot of these companies have a ton of experience in this arena already, seeing as though the system has been out for quite some time now.

Yes, that’s definitely the case…

…funny though when you see a decent SC4 player getting all his clever stuff countered by some noob mashing the HS button…

For live play, let’s hope the PS3 version is tournament-worthy given the situation with XBOX 360 controller support.

SweetJV shut that shit down:tup:…even though his post too should be common sense.

All expectations should be that the PS3 version will not only be 100% fine in its own right, but that both versions will run identically to each other. There’s no reason to doubt that things will turn out right. For the unlikely scenario that something does end up wrong, it’s not like this kind of issue is unprecedented.

SC is the most masher-friendly of big name fighters, with the possible exception of DOA. I would argue that 3D games on the whole are more masher-friendly than 2D games. This needs an explanation though.

Without detracting at all from the skill and strategy that any good 3D titles and their players exemplify, the typical 3D game by nature requires a higher base level of proficiency to shut down and consistently beat dudes who are brainlessly rapid-slammin’ their controllers. Concordantly, a “masher-friendly” game is one where a new player must learn and practice that game significantly more in order to exert a clear superiority over somebody who just picked it up two minutes ago and is really really excited.

It’s actually to do with what mashing actually does, game input-wise, relative to the game itself and the way it’s played. Mashing, in its purest and most typical form, is generally pressing random buttons and directions as fast as you can. In SF2 this means you’re jumping a lot and/or standing in the same spot and non-stop spamming normal attacks; the opponent can handle you by simply tossing a fireball. In Tekken, you become a (mostly stationary) wall of unpredictable attacks; your opponent has to space the matchup properly to make you whiff and then punish… otherwise he’s trying to block right and wait for you to haphazardly throw out an attack that’s unsafe on block, or he has to try some pre-emptive countering against your randomness which is risky even with his long-reach or high-priority moves. (Both examples are of course huge and deliberate oversimplifications but it helps to get my point across.)

all i wanna know is why is this game taking so long to release

Read through the thread and you’ll find a multitude of reasons why.

but then that would require work on his part…

Shit, I guess doing things on your own is completely overrated now, right?

UltraDavid, stop being so cheap. We all know you can afford it. It averages out to $4-5 a month and it would take 4 years to equal the cost of the cheapest Xbox 360. You’ll be money behind selling your Xbox and getting a PS3 if money is your real reason for trading up. You know the better players are mostly going to play on Xbox. Now if the netcode is better on the PS3, that’s something all together different. Just cool out for a couple of months and wait to see how things shake out.

P.S. I’m honestly surprised that ST:HD is arriving this year. When I talked to Seth at length about it this summer at the MWC, he pretty much told me to not expect it this year. I hope he’s wrong, but how many times can we keep trying to kick the football before Capcom pulls it away at the last second, and laughs.

This is so, so right on the mark.

Fatboy made an awesome poll-thread wayyy back asking which version of SFHD you’d be playing. I forgot all about it but it just got bumped. Here it is, if anyone is interested in its results.

The Elegy of a Scrub

So I have an ST green board staring at me… waiting to be played. I bought it off of a friend for 50 dollars and I thought that is a great deal considering how I would have to get it elsewhere. I am waiting though, to build my supergun, so that I can see the overall reaction to Remix to decide where to allocate my funds (I don’t have a 360 or ps3). This is painful, waiting for this game to come out.

But at the same time, I really hope it is all worth it. I hope my ST board will remain on the shelf as a relic of times past as I welcome the new world of OG SF2. I hope Remix really lives up the hype it has surmised in this hardcore community. I hope the game looks great and will remain timeless… until the next Remix project 15 years from now. We all have our doubts, including myself who pretty much boycotted the project due to Japan’s disinterest in it. The fact Japan may not be playing this version may be reason enough to settle for Classic, but that is my own bickering.

I want to be proven wrong, that HD Remix is not some palette wetter for SF4 - that it will be one of the best downloadable console games ever made. I want my friends to be playing this game for years to come, even after SF4’s release. And I want it NOW. Now, I know that is an unreasonable demand on my part, considering all the care in video game programing, but that is the anguish in my soul. It is all my fault for this suffering, I am spoiled by all the great news we used to get on Capcom Digital. Still, a new trailer would be really nice.

Sigh… So, what really stupid theory-fighter exploitable shall we talk about next until this game gets released or I am relieved of such misery?

You can buy the 12+1 month cards on Amazon for $40, so it’s actually more like $3 a month.

Ive been playing ssf2x green board at home lately and noticed its much easier to combo c. mk xx super for ryu than on sthd remix mode. But if I go to classic mode I can do it almost every time.

Does this have to do with the remix timing windows?
I thought it should in theory be easier in remix mode.
I tested this all night last night and cant figure it out.

Based on these testings classic mode may be the choice for me when this game is released.

If Japan does play SFHD, I hope they change the name to something like “Street Fighter USA” since it sounds so much better than “Supa Sutorito Faita II X: Remikusu HD.”

If the game turns out half as good as it sounds like it will, it deserves an arcade release over there.

i combo low forward into super like its nothing on remix. i get it just as consistnetly as arcade st.

Sucklin is using the DC ver. which is funny that Japan Capcom was able to add extras like shin akuma and dip switches. DC ST came out around 99-2000ish so the “archaic code” is 9 years at most. He’s being lazy!

So please get off Sucklins dick!

have a awful day. :arazz:

Like Super Mario Bros 2 USA? :shake:

I dunno, maybe I am being dickish, but I have always preferred Super Street Fighter 2 X over Turbo, mainly because I confuse my friends in casual discussion.

“Man, I was Getting killed in ST casuals today”
“ST?”
“Super Turbo”
“What that?”
“Ya know, Sf2?”
“Oh dayam! I remember that game for the snes!”
"… no you don’t."
“what do you mean?”
“I mean you don’t remember playing ST for SNES. There was Turbo Hyper Fighting and Super.”
"Yeah, I remember playing both of those!“
initiates history lesson of SF2 series
"Oh dayam, I get it now… jeeze, why didn’t they just call it something else instead of turbo?”

Anyway, completely off topic and I apologize.

My thinking: If Japan wants to not play the game, then they can go nuts. Lack of Japanese interest didn’t hurt Marvel 2 any, just as lack of American interest never hurt KOF. Who knows? Maybe US videos and tournaments will get them into it like 3rd Strike here.
