Official SSF2T: HD Remix General Discussion Thread

I get what you’re saying and I’m certainly not looking down on your opinion: it might end up being mine too. However, I’m not so sure you get what I’m saying.

I know voice chat can be disabled on both. I’m not arguing that one online service is better than the other. I’m defffffinitely not claiming that everyone on SRK is great at SF, especially older editions. I also do believe that there will be great players on both versions regardless of anything.

What I am saying is that there is a decent chance one of the two consoles will eventually have a notably better scene than the other, and nobody knows for sure which console that will be right now, and I just hope that if this happens I bought the “right” console.

Also, SRK is currently the best unified pool of good online SF2 players assembled in one place unless you’re directly including online services such as GGPO, 2DF, PSN, XBL, whatever. It’s not brimming full with experts, but it has more of them than anywhere else!

You made one statement I want to directly call on though.
"The fact is that XBL has a MUCH bigger pool of players. More players = more comp"
XBL as a whole has way more players than PSN, no doubt! That naturally gives it the advantage in having a larger SFHD community, but nobody can guarantee that at all, especially as SFHD’s “new game” status eventually wears off. Also, while a larger pool of players of course gives more potential for high skill to exist within it, more comp does not automatically equate to better comp.

This made me think of something else I’d rather add. I thiiiink I’d prefer to have access to a smaller number of hardcore players than a huuuge number of casual players. That’s an unimportant detail though and I know a lot of people would disagree with me entirely, and I’m not even 100% sure if that is how I feel. It’s worth considering though that the smaller community may just be leaner, not worse. Trimming the fat isn’t necessarily a bad thing if what’s left is an excellent premium cut of meat. Unless there isn’t enough meat left to get your fill of it, which could happen to.

Honestly, I didn’t even bother mentioning it before, but there’s a verrry minute chance that one version will flat-out play better than the other. Capcom promising us they’ll both be the same is great and all, and I do believe them, but broken promises are far from unheard of with this kind of stuff. What if the PS3 version speeds up and slows down haphazardly, or depending on stage/character? To hell if any competitive players will want to deal with that shit if the 360 version is consistently butter-smooth.

The superior online service does not necessarily guarantee the best SFHD experience. I readily admit that it certainly doesn’t hurt its odds, but I’m (literally) not putting down any money yet. That’s a gamble I’m not particularly interested in losing, you get me?

If we both end up on the same console, we’ll play and have a good time.

I’m guessing between 1200 and 1600 pts. I hope not more than that.

XBL’s larger community only means there’s more 13 year old kids to call you a f ag. oh and to drop on you cause XBL is filled with idiots.

For what its worth here is my take on the systems.

IMO the system that has the largest player base has the best chance of maintaining and creating a large group of high level players.

Xbox live has millions of player on it so you can safely assume that it will develop the largest group of strong players.

This is the basics of developing competition. It is like a pyramid in that the wider the base the taller it can be. If PSN has 4000 and LIVE has 10,000 LIVE will have more good to great players. This is a fact that can not be argued. It will matter slightly how many current great plaeyrs get on but only in the beginning. The new players will pick up the tactics and tricks and begin to take over from the current great players. I have seen this happen on CvS2 and HSF2.

So finally Xbox live will be the system to paly SFHD on.

^ ^ ^ I liked this post a lot because it actually offered an explanation behind the opinion.

Also because CigarBob has the coolest mystique of anyone I’ve ever seen on the internet. :smokin:

speaking the truth brother:woot:

^^^ Def agree… CB is sick! :lovin:

Thanks guys. Didn’t know if I got my point across. I guess I did.

I’m probably going to sell my 360, it’s been too annoying already and I’m not looking forward to spending the cost of the system all over again in online fees over the next few years. I can probably recoup a good chunk of the money I sunk into the 360, and I’ll put that toward a PS3 instead. I got a 360 despite negatives like paying for online play and the risk that the system will have problems because I figured the benefit to me of being able to play the beta would overcome those negatives, but… well, that didn’t exactly pan out.

Edit: I’m not particularly worried about the relative strength of the scenes for the two systems. The 360 has the largest online scene right now, but given the PS3 surge in sales lately and the fact that online player base size doesn’t translate very well into size of SFHD player base or level of play of that player base, I’m not sure the 360’s advantages right now will hold up. Even if they do, they aren’t strong enough for me to keep paying more money than I have to. I’ll still be playing this game for the offline tournament scene, and that’ll be the same regardless of which console I practice on at home.

The sad part is that your post was almost warranted considering the posts preceding it when in fact your entire post SHOULD be common sense for everyone instead.

Yea I thought it was common sense as well. But seeing as it wasn’t posted it must not have been.

I guess we just have to many uncommonly dumbass ppl in this thread. But again that is just common sense to know that too.

That part is common sense, no doubt and agreed. It’s not like it’s straight-up news to anyone, I don’t think. I just appreciate somebody backing up how they feel. Not calling out anyone in this thread, but in general in life, hollow opinions are unfounded bullshit. Nobody needs a reason to feel a certain way, but when anyone starts preaching they had better have an essay behind them if they want to win over anyone who isn’t stupid.

My point was that even if XBL has 100 000 players, maybe only 40 000 of them will buy SFHD, and then maybe only 10 000 of those players will still be playing it four months after its release, and then maybe only 5 000 by the time it’s a year old. But who knows? Maybe 90 000 of them will buy it, and maybe 80 000 will still be playing it four months later, and maybe 70 00 of them will continue to play until the day they die.

This is sort of what I’m getting at:

It’s obviously one of the most major influences (inevitable, it couldn’t possibly NOT be), but the relationship is not just a simple proportionality. You can’t just say and know that 28% of XBL players are and/or will become dedicated SFHD players.

The same train of thought can be said equally for PSN. We just don’t know for sure yet. THAT is my point.

Shit, what if SFHD gets the semi-expected PC release a year from now, and in five years 95% of its online players are on there? It sure as hell doesn’t affect which console I’ll buy for SFHD for the coming year, or five for that matter, but you get what I’m saying, right?

Even if we can predict (very) likely outcomes, it’s equally common sense that a prediction of the future is never a 100% guaranteed outcome. All I’m saying is we just can’t know yet for sure. Bringing anything up as a fact now is silly, even if it turns out to be absolutely correct later on.

Don’t mean to attack or question anyone’s credibility, but just honestly curious to clarify/double-check… which of you guys (already) have solid experience with both services?

Maybe the topic was just too early and too flamebait. I brought it up because I’m stoooked about this game and I can’t wait to play it with you guys.

If you work at Gamestop then you can get XBL for free by searching through the cases of used 360 games. People just trade in their games and leave the free XBL card in there. I’m set for at least 7 months.

Like I said, I own both systems, and I plan to buy and play this on both systems, so please don’t take the following as any kind of fanboy-isms. But here’s my pre-release take on things: I think the XBox will be the better platform to play on. Here’s why:

  1. HF and AE have already grown a decent player base on the 360. As people mentioned, there are some really good players that have never even heard of SRK before these games. Anyway, they’re already playing SF2 a lot on there, and they will migrate to HD.

  2. Xbox straight-up has a better online setup. You may have to pay a whopping FOUR dollars a month to use it. Be that as it may, it’s still better.

  3. The beta was on HD. If this is indicitave of most of the developers I know in the US, then the game was mostly made and tested on the 360. The PS3 was most like a port. An after-thought. Don’t take this the wrong way. Games have to go through rigorous testing to get released. I’m not implying the PS3 version will be a bug-ridden, hack-tastic port at all. It’ll play just fine. It’s the same game, and most likely almost the same net-code. Still, I’d bet that this game will be slightly more tested and tuned for the 360.

With all that being said, some of these arguments are probably completely opposite for SF4. So take this all at face value. Both of these consoles are nice systems. And I think both will have a large and serious player base. But as far as HD goes, I think the 360 will be the place to be.

I’ll update my thoughts after it’s been released and I’ve played on both systems for a while…

cigarbob in real life is a stud. ohhhh you guys dont eeeeeven know.

I suspect much the same, to be very honest. If either version is going to be a little shabbier, it’s much more likely to be that of the PS3. We’re supposedly 5-8 weeks away from release and the public hasn’t even seen the game running on PS3 yet? Fingers crossed that both versions are tournament-worthy (and the same as each other)!

I believe the hype. I’ll bet his cigar case is hand-carved by a dozen beautiful Cuban virgins from the wood of their most sacred tree, the remainder of which he used to construct his arcade cab.

I expect it to be like SC4.

Both systems have a good crop of players, and a lot of scrubs and 13 year-olds. Personally, I’d rather put up with 13-yr olds that can be blocked, then extra lag hurting the good matchups.

i think the whole 13-year-old masher isn’t going to be very long for this world. in 3d games the tactic goes a whole lot farther than in 2d games.

will probably see a lot of shoto fireball spammers when the game comes out and then things will get a little better as the game progresses.

what makes you say this? I’m really not trying to flame you, but what makes strategy in a 3-D fighter ‘go farther’ than a 2-D fighter?

SC4 is MORE masher friendly then SF in general.

That’s not saying SC4 is crap, but a masher will get competely stomped in SF4, whereas in SC4 they can get lucky enough times to take a round, especially if they know how to mix up mid and low.
