Don’t forget to rotate what weapons people use since the lvls for each weapon are separate

Yeah, I keep saying I have to switch out, but I don’t want to. Zephyr deals like mad with the SMG right now and makes me sad to have to have Leanne or Vashyron do it. I try to level up the nub weapon skills on early enemies.

Yeah, I’ve been leveling the Handgun and SMG for both Vash and Robin, and leveling the Handgun and Grenades for Leanne. I want to trade it up again and get it all even, but I really miss Robin’s SMG animations. Though, his slow walking Handgun animation is the definition of badass.

I’m on the third chapter now and have been mostly dealing with the side quests and the arena for the chapter. I have a question though. Before I stopped playing, I found an encounter grid in level 4, a bit after the bridge connecting the main city with the cafe. I decided to go into battle, and found myself facing three huge trolls, one of which wore an intense amount of armor and was a level in the upper 30’s. I somehow beat the group on my first try and received a doll of some kind. What the hell am I supposed to do with it?

Anyway, the game just keeps getting better and better. I love the strategy required for each battle, and how you can go about them differently to win. I also dig the world map. This game is definitely a sleeper hit, and I’d be happy if it actually sells well (we know it probably won’t).

Yeah i played for about 6 hours today…

Still in chapter two…

Game is definitely poetry in motion…

Remember that side mission where you’re supposed to find a doll for the shopkeepers daughter? Any other dolls you find can be given to him in exchange for a good item.

so just so I’m straight on this, getting clips increases the amount of rounds you fire thus increasing your dmg right? so clips basically increase your dmg.

Also, do hand guns ever become powerful enough to sort of be useful without needing to do scratch dmg first? I don’t know why the game start you with 2 hand guns instead of 2 smg’s when the handguns do piss poor damage. Mine barely ever hit in the double digits, most of the time for 1-5 dmg.

and last, how do you guys go about hero actions? do you let your gun charge up fully before attacking, or maybe let it charge to a cvertain then attack so you can charge up to a decent amount again before the action is over? Does charging the gun do anything other than giving you the skill bonus, like more charges will always do more dmg?

The thing with pistols is you have to find that sweet spot…

With machines you definately would want to use a smg…

But with regular human baddies they are usually not shielded somewhere…

They leave themselves open when they are aiming at someone…

Also try using molotovs, grenades, and poo poo…

I think throwing shit actually busts all shields if im not mistaken…

Also, arena has been great practice for me. I’m starting to use tri attacks waaaay more often, often every fight without some kind of terrain obstacle.

Yes.

No, handguns have 2 purposes, dealing direct damage to transfer scratch, and gauge breaking. GB is good for two things, first it obviously makes getting back hero points alot easier.Second, generally when a GB happens, they also get stunned so it’s useful for giving you breathing room. With dual wielded pistols I’ve gotten like 4 gauge breaks in a single hero action, and on other occasions, stunned at least 3 enemies with a single hero action.

Charging ONLY gives you that bonus so whether I let it fully charge or not depends on what I’m doing. For SMGs, if I just need straight damage, I will always let it charge as much as I can since firing 3 charges is more damage than 3 lvl1 charges. For handguns it depends on the situation, if I’m just converting scratch then I only need one charge, if I’m trying to prevent enemy attacks then yeah I’ll charge it more so I get a better gauge break chance. There’s also bonus shot and smackdown stuff to consider, but those are really only for getting extra money, unless it’s an enemy with a shit-ton of HP.

I’ve been looking for a copy, checking out the bestbuy website to see if there was copies around my area and didn’t find any. When I called a few stores they mentioned that the website would only show available if there was 3+.

This game already starting to become rare or was the shipped amount incredibly low? I’ve already read stories of gamestop only getting one copy of the game for each system if there wasn’t any pre orders.

For a sega/triace game you’d think there would be a little more love.

I’ll probably order it from amazon.

ahh I see, I still think it’s silly you start with 2 hand guns…

and the game stop near my house is pretty good on having “rare” new games, they had a pretty decent amount. but yeah i didn’t see any at target, best buy, walrmart.

Handguns are good for taking out low-level enemies. That way, you don’t waste time using your MG on them. And yeah, gauge cracks are incredibly good. Also, handguns can destroy oil drums. If you need to deal bigger direct damage, just use grenades.

Yes! Fuckin OWNED those lv 50 trolls guarding the smg on level 9, and with my characters only in the mid 20’s. Yeah sure I had to use some pretty high level grenades to take one down quick, but eh, thats what they’re for right.

Chapter 7 boss was cake, but the dungeon was a lil annoying, but got lucky to get full scratch bonuses on a few mobs there

Fuck that Chapter 2 boss. No ohko on the oildrum walker things makes things so much more annoying since they’re shielded while the boss pounds you with AOE.

Don’t forget that there’s a second Cinematic if you wait at the title screen.
It show a couple of the higher ups, and explains a little bit about Zenith (the system that controls life in death in Basel).

Ooh, I didn’t know about a second intro. I’ll check it out when I get home.

is this game really any good? I like the environments but then I saw the map and got put off again

is the combat repetitive? it looks like it is slightely

Of course the combat is repetitive, it’s an RPG. Will it drive you nuts while grinding? It might, the combat is more active than FF13 though.
I picked up the game, only managed to put 12hrs of gameplay and I just finished chapter 2. From what I can tell, your character level only means more hp and allow you to carry more weight meaning you can equip heavier items.
At what level can you actually equip a 2nd pistol w/ mods on it. I bought the 100k pistol hoping to be able to dual-wield but it goes well over my weight limit.

As the guy before me said, it’s an RPG, so combat is going to get repetitive. However, in most RPGs, the combat is changed up a bit by giving you different abilities, magics, or special moves once you move up a few levels. In Resonance of Fate, however, most of the abilities you need to excel at combat are given to you at the start. Sure, you can level up and gain abilities, but these abilities only give you different attributes for an attack and tend to not introduce a new animation (however, most RPGs are like this, they just change up the animation to give you something new to look at. In the case of RoF, certain shooting animations are changed depending on the charge level of a weapon… I think). However, this doesn’t really matter in the game. The thing that keeps this game from becoming repetitive is the reward you get for finishing a group of enemies. Some groups are easy towards the beginning of the game, but they really test your knowledge of the battle system within a few chapters. For examples, enemies go from no armor to armor on all sides of their body, so more strategy is required to skillfully take out a group of enemies. The battle system is different, and I applaud the game for this. This is one of the first JRPGs where when I first started playing it, I felt like I was playing an entirely different genre. Don’t get me wrong though, JRPGs like Lost Odyssey and Dragon Quest VIII were some of my favorite RPGs in the past ten years.

As for the world map, I like it a lot. It’s quick, somewhat inventive, and you don’t have to BS around for 5 minutes just to get to a destination if it’s previously unlocked. Getting those treasures in random parts of the grid is so satisfying, and I have no clue why.

The game, overall, is truly original and amazing. Unfortunately, I skipped out on Final Fantasy XIII, but that may be a result of my decreased initiative to buy games (for example, Blazblue was the last game I bought for the 360 until Battlefield: BC2 came out). But I’m glad I went with Resonance of Fate. Trust me, if you are able to, rent it to see if you enjoy it. And if you do, BUY IT IMMEDIATELY! This seems like a game that is going to stop appearing in stores in a few weeks.

Anyway, I’m on Spring Break for the next week, so I won’t be playing any Resonance of Fate, let alone video games in general. But I just started chapter 4 and did the side quest to help the boutique owner get a new part for her sewing machine… or something like that.
