Just like Cocoumi my first time playing @ State was yesterday…I have to agree with him to some degree. Your sticks seem fine, but blocking (DB) seemed difficult. Your buttons are the concave ones, which isn’t bad, but the punch & kick buttons have this ocean in between them.
But, like what the Poolboss said, after a game or two, you can make the proper adjustments, and just carry on. So on that note, I would go there again and play. (Still think Bearcade has best cabinet, even over SVGL and there super long joysticks)
Now the competition I can’t really comment on. I only played a couple of guys, two weren’t really that good, and one was a crazy turtle in P Groove. Unfortunately, no matter how bad a turtle sucks, I lose to them because I actually like playing and forcing action, I lose because of impatience.
I look forward to playing some players their with some sort of skill, I know Brian goes there, but he wasn’t there on Tuesday.
Well, I’ll tell you what. If someone wants to brave the early morning on wednesday say 7:15-7:30, we could have the sticks tweaked just right. The buttons can’t be helped. You’re pretty much stuck with that one.
MVC2 was replaced today with another. Although this cabinet is more on the “Fun Size”, the buttons between punch and kick are much closer, which I suspect would be a fair trade-off if you like to combo. Hopefully, this should put an end to the whole “freezing” issue.
Also we tearfully removed our beloved Columns machine and replaced it with Tekken Tag.
the new marvel cabinet is beautiful. the sticks in particular are the most fun I’ve played marvel on. they’re not too tight or too loose making them super responsive. combine them with the closer buttons makes triangle jumping virtually effortless. on top of all that the screen looks bright and vibrant too. it is smaller but we never got into each others way. although I didn’t play chidie (move over dammit!!! :p) the months of broken marvel were worth this.
Yeah I love the new marvel cabinet. It’s great to actually be able to do what you want to do. And I do dislike it when games turn into drink holders:bluu: but that wasn’t the only issue that came up. In one of the matches I played both sticks froze ala old MvC2. Then later all the problems went away. It’s like there are gremlins in the cabinet. Oh well I’m sure it’ll get fixed. Oh yeah, I’m real happy that ggxx went down to a quarter. Now I can play those button mashing fan girls:lol:
poolboss- do you know specifically what type of sticks are in the new marvel cabinet, ie are they supers, ultimates, competitions, or p360’s? i thought most arcades have competitions but it feels much different than mine and isnt nearly as clicky.
just wanted to let everyone know that there’s a free comedy show at the depot (the little stage area on the floor above the arcade) on thursday from 5-7. ive seen a couple of the comedians and know they’re funny as shit so i’ll be at state around 1 to play some marvel then hang out for the comedy show and maybe play some more after depending on who’s still around.
there are a couple people who i havent gotten to play yet this semester since im on the mwf schedule now who i’m dying to play, so if you’re there on tues/thurs let all the tues/thurs marvel people know (all 2 of them?) if they want some semi-new competition i’ll be there this thursday.

ok. cvs2 is fixed. However, someone brought to my attention that certain characters are missing from the MVC2 lineup due to the level not being high enough? Well, for whatever the reason, We looked at the setup and couldn’t find anything that would alter this. If someone wants to give their two cents on how to get these missing characters (make sure you know what you are talking about), I can see if we can have it fixed by tomorrow morning. But I gotta know by tonight. I’m leaving with one of SFSU’s top 9-ball players to defend her title in Boulder, CO and I won’t be back till Monday. So if anything breaks, It’ll stay broken 'till I get back.
The number of characters/colors depends on the “Exp. Points” the game has. Experience points build whenever someone plays the game though or even inserts a coin. You can accelerate the process by repeatedly flicking the coin-mech (don’t use the service button-that’s something else). It’ll take a LOT of ‘credits,’ but you’ll eventually get there.
we have the japanese mvc2 so there’s no “experience” counter on the screen. ive been asking around and apparently there was some completely stupid thing about the japanese dreamcast version where you could only unlock everything by playing at home, bringing your vmu to the arcade, and playing online… i sincerely hope that the arcade version is not a part of that craptacular scheme and that you should be able to unlock everything by just playing the game.
i dont remember if anyone’s been unlocked yet. i think one of the wolverine’s might have been unlocked since we got the new cabinet though. im also pretty sure that sentinel is in the last tier of characters to be unlocked so those of you waiting for that game breaking robot will have to wait for a loooooooooooooooooong time mst for life!!! :lol:
would it be possible to switch roms or something? i dont know how the memory and characters are stored but the old japanese rom/board/whatever did have all the characters…would it be possible to switch the roms out of the cabinets?
You know what? I tried the trick I knew, no luck. So you’re pretty much stuck with what’s there. Just have a marathon until all the characters are unlocked. I wouldn’t think about switching roms, you know how much luck we had with switching stuff on the other MVC2. Leave it alone. if it ain’t broke, DON’T BREAK IT!

i’m worried that we are unable to unlock any characters because of our japanese version. the dreamcast needed the arcade and online play to unlock everyone. i don’t know if it’s the case with the arcade version needing the dreamcast to unlock everyone. it’s been over a week of us playing and no one has been unlocked yet so i’m pretty worried. can there be a cutoff point where if we haven’t unlocked ANYONE by the end of april that we can somehow get a different marvel somehow…either an american version or a japanese version with everyone unlocked? please.
