Official Pokemon Thread ver 3.0: PokeMMO: The Future Of Pokemon? (B/W 2 OUT NOW!)

I think the only pinch berry currently available is the Starf, but you have to rack up a streak of 105 wins in the Battle Subway Super line, which I don’t have the patience for at the moment. Unfortunately, I can’t run both Starf and Eviolite, so its kind of moot, especially with this Gen’s power creep.
I don’t even battle at all anymore really. I just cook up ideas and teams. I’m one of those weirdos that enjoys breeding, collecting and creating off the wall teams and movesets.

I can feel White Shadow’s pain when it comes to Smogon’s politics… Back in Advance play I remember arguing with a Smogonite about how Torment effectively ruined Choice users and almost got laughed out of the room. I proved my point when I crushed his team by utilizing it and Taunt(still mad about the 3-turn nerf, at least give it 4) to set Dragonite up with 6DDs for the sweep.
Then, a gen later, Torment Heatran became all the rage… and I smiled at being ahead of the curve.
My buddy would go on to troll the entire Smogon Mod staff with a team comprised of at least 4 guys weak to ice(2 of which were 4x weak), and my classic Baton Pass Scizor/Medicham combo that won like 50 matches in a row.

Good times. Maybe I’ll start battling again when the new games drop…

I know I haven’t been posting in this thread or anything, but do any Gen IV people have a Chimchar they’d like to trade? Also, if you’re rusty on battling you can go ahead and practice on me.

maaan

I got a new modem a few months ago, and for whatever reason my DS is being a dick about connecting to a new wifi network, so I’ve been on an extended battling hiatus.

I have plenty of legit Chimchars leftover from when I used to breed. Do you want male or female (I’m assuming female). PM me so we can set up a time.

I was having that same problem actually, but now that I happened to move the connections have been great. So sorry, I really don’t know what to tell you besides the basic “get a new modem” or “move”; etc

Man somebody used this against me… usually I keep a weather user on deck but he got merked… then this thing got brought out… fml…

Endeavor… so broken…

White Shadow predicted Cloyster’s brokeness wayyyyyy before smogon ever thought to list Cloyster as OU…

Yall need to find that old thread for me so I can dig some gems out…

Smogon arbitrarily decides what is banned and what isn’t and then bases its strategy around that solely… “Since swift swim and rain dance is banned you should never run into this, so run this set”…

Really tho… that’s why I love my SRKniggas…

No homo…

Eviolite is the truth…

I’m trying to think of some kinda bulky Magmar set… shit would be fire(no pun intended)…

Magmortar and Magmar stats are not different by any means… eviolite makes magmar’s defense the highest among all fire pokemon in the game…

That damn Sturdy… too f’n good. Yeah weather or priority would shut it down, but it’s always funny to see the little guy wreck stuff…
Magmar can get Barrier for extra defense boosts, but I don’t know how effective it would be with Earthquake being the number one offensive attack of all Physical Sweepers.

I’ve been thinking of making some troll teams to make people rage, but I don’t know if I should do it. I was inspired by all the 4th Gen evasion abusers in the Hax Frontier. Seems kinda dickish, but hey, that’s why its Random Match-up, right?

I tried to get into competitive pokemon a few months back but I just didn’t get it and the games seemed to last forever. I will probably try again when black and white 2 come out.

Lol, how do you lose to Aron? I don’t think I have a team without Weather, Hazards, Scizor, Donphan, a ghost, or something with Magic guard.

There’s lots of viable troll pokemon this gen. Wobbuffett is still around. Sableye, Whimsicott, Volbeat, Murkrow, Sub/Protect Toxic stall Gliscor/Breloom, Sub/Protect/Leech Seed Parasect in Rain, Sub/Protect Wailrein in Hail, ParaFlinch Hax Jirachi/Togekiss, Volt-Turn Teams…

That is something that has always been odd to me… Smogon is so vehement about ‘removing hax’ and promoting a ‘diverse metagame’, yet there’s all these trolling ass movesets from Pokes that are stupid hard to kill like Breloom and Gliscor and no one bats an eye. It’s just funny to me.

Also, why did Thundurus get banned? Excadrill I can kinda almost understand as Smogon’s BFF Tyranitar gives him a free Agility, but why did lightning genie get the boot?

Like Garchomp, Nasty Plot Thundrus had no true counters. Also, priority T-Wave is obnoxious as fuck (I’m glad Volbeat and Murkrow have it :shy:). But really they banned him because Smogon loves to hate on rain and its good sweepers. It was early in the game and before people started using Chansey and Gastrodon frequently, not that either of them was a sure fire check. Nasty Plot Thundrus had to 2 out of Focus Blast, HP Ice, and Grass Knot. Depending on which move it didn’t pick, it could be walled by a different thing. However, once you’ve found out which moves it picked, it was usually too late.

I read a story on Smogon about a guy getting wrecked by a team that used priority Tailwind to give Dragonite and Haxorus Speedy Choice-Banded Outrages.

I love dual screens hyper offensive teams… Who had the wise idea of making moxie an ability -_-

Which game is that from? Being able to see the opponent’s team is lame.

I haven’t played Pokemon is the oldschool Pokemon Blue - just stopped in to ask:

Any hope that there will ever be a Pokemon MMO? I’d be down for that. I can’t say I wouldn’t buy a Wii U just for that alone.

Oh and the @AshOfPalletTown Twitter is a really good follow.

Nigga you late. This game would be so retarded if team preview didn’t exist. There’s waaaaay too many pokemon now.

my old Gen4 sun team in action:

yeah I dunno why I picked Linkin Park for the music…what the fuck what I thinking?

Man Circle Throw would be so nice if it could toss away substitutes…

I had a prankster whimsicott set up on me because I didn’t know…

That nigga hella slipped up and rage-quitted even though I was the one raging while it was all going down…

He tried to leech seed me before he set up the substitute…

I tossed that nigga out of the way to force out his dragonite, let him kill throh, then used choice specs jolteon w/hidden power ice for the game…

Also why is Aerodactyl RU at Smogon?

He is one of the fastest pokemon in the game, bar accelgor…

Aerodactyl w/Focus Sash shuts niggas down with the taunt… he is one the best suicide leads in the game imo…

Let a nigga put a flying type or heatran as his lead… that shit gets shut all the way down… ideally I like playing against sandstorm teams though… if somebody leads with Tyranitar, I’ll use EQ, then set up stealth rocks, let Aerodactyl get killed, then bring out throh… use circle throw on TTar, and if he stays in, he dies, and if he switches, the pokemon he switched in gets switched back out… rack up that residual damage, use Jolteon or Alakazam to finish off the team… I always keep filler team mates…

The extra two will generally be either a Ferrothorn and special attacker Porygon2(eviloite), or I’ll have that bulky Magmar(eviolite) and a Vaporeon(wish support)…

I forgot all about Barrier, most definitely helps…

I think need to change my EV spread for it, because regardless of having Eviolite, it doesn’t do the best at eating special attacks but it dishes out the pain though…

It doesn’t really take a whole lot of damage from super-effective physical attacks after one barrier boost… I think

I wish I could make it faster but I’m stretching those EV’s too thin as is…

So far

EV- 252 Health 80 Defense 178 Special Defense

Fire Blast
Focus Blast
Hidden Power(Ice)
Barrier

Eviolite is the best item introduced in Pokemon since forever, made a whole bunch of shit more viable…

I’m thinking about using a Quiver Dance, Baton Pass, Spore Smeargle(Focus Sash) to really help my cause… it covers that special defense and speed issue…

Use spore to put opponent to sleep, then swap out… opponent swaps out, I set up barrier, and go in…

Circle Throw and Dragon Tail would be broken if snap backed pokemon behind a sub. It would make roar and whirwind inferior moves.

I usually just spam volt/turn on Whimsicott if hazards aren’t up. Otherwise I just brute force through it. People try to use it at really stupid times IMO. Also, Breloom, Tornadus with taunt, Magic Guard users, and Magic Bounce users beat it. Most other grass types can handle it too.

Aerodactyl isn’t as good as it used to be because nobody really uses leads anymore. Team Preview made suicide leads kind of useless. In addition, there’s magic bounce Espeon and plenty of pokemon with prankster to stop Aerodactyl.

I’ve never seen anyone use Magmar, but between his lack of a recovery move, vulnerability to all hazards, and common weaknesses a barrier set doesn’t seem very viable. Also, Chansey, Blissey, and Jellicent wall it hard. Even with a few quiver dances passed to it, you can’t beat Jellicent, which is extremely common.
