Official Pokemon Thread ver 3.0: PokeMMO: The Future Of Pokemon? (B/W 2 OUT NOW!)

I wish that Hyper Beam and its variants still worked like Gen 1. I’d be so glad if Dragon Rage was the only dragon move. Seriously, fuck every BST 600+ dragon type this gen.

Parawrap loops?

^_-

Gen 1 was unbalanced as fuck. they had in place everything to make it great in battle but didn’t follow through on them. (Ghost atk beats Psy pkmn but only one pkmn set was ghost plus was poison, Dragon only have one Set damage atk? wtf?) things go far better as time went on.

Gen 2 and 3 introduced my fav pokemon to this day.

In Ruby/Sapphire was when things began to get gay, really fast. The game developers over at Lamefreak decided to forget all the reasons why moves of each type were specifically designed to balance the overall type imbalance. Instead, they got too obsessed with just making moves just for the sake of moves, or substituting moves for inherent imbalances in typing. (Water types are broken and were ubiquitous as well, Poison types continued sucking etc. etc.)

Sheer Cold was retarded. They created the Sturdy trait to make a soft and highly situational counter, but the reason why OHKO moves were tolerated in Gen 2 was because there were type immunities. Nothing is immune to Ice, and ONLY ONE TYPE IS RESISTANT TO DRAGON!!!

GF is filled with a bunch of imbeciles. Draco Meteor and other inordinately powerful attacks, along with the absurd need to overpower non-legendary Pokemon with enormous stat spreads ruined all other Gens. I mean Stealth Rock? Really?

Then even worse players were making excuses for poor design choices*, just because there were some Pokemon that needed to be balanced by using even more absurdly imbalanced mechanics, which only hindered most of the Pokemon from being equally viable. Which is pretty much why I couldn’t continue with this charade, so while making teams from scratch (breeding, training) was fun it was unnecessarily tedious with EVs being 0-31 instead of 0-15 like before… but I didn’t like the whole Online Battling either. Oh well…

*That isn’t to say I’m critical of the fanbase who continue to enjoy the game, I wish I could play again at this point but Gamefreak and Capcom are now companies that I boycott because they’re all trying to be “money makin’ machines” instead of game designers.

Nothing like having Ghost and Bug moves counter Psychics, yet they made nearly every Ghost and Bug part Poison to screw them over. Pin Missile Jolteon was like the only counter I had for Alakazam back in the day, and it wasn’t even a hard counter either.

Jesus Christ Amnesia Snorlax, [Speed based] Horn Drill Tauros and Toxic/Wrap Tentacruel made me want to murder people… even though I used them too… >_>

Who’s your favorite pokemon again?

Mine was and still is Scizor, and pretty much my top 5 are all Gen 2. Kingdra, Quagsire, Porygon 2 etc…

I have to agree on Gen 2 being the best gen. Everything that has come since has merely been tweaks or balances on the innovations GSC brought to the table. While things like the Physical/Special split were sorely overdue and needed, nothing will ever compare to sheer amount of genius that was pored into those Gameboy Color carts.

As far as favorite pokemon go, Gengar will always be my number one.
Houndoom, Dragonite, Heracross, Scizor, Zapdos, Sceptile, Lucario, Roserade, Honchkrow, Infernape, Sableye, Archeops, Braviary, Cofagrigus(love that sarcophagus!) all have a place in my heart as well.

Original Gold/Silver/Crystal all day.

Man my top 5 Snorlax, Blastoise, Torterra, Torkoal & Poliwrath. I have both B&W but have yet to play them…

Favorite Pokémon… Tough. I have favorites in every Gen. But Metagross stands out to me the most. I love the big guy, and Agiligross will always be on my OU team.

Favorite Gen? Like the Pokémon themselves, it’s hard to call because I enjoyed all of them, though I really do want to play Crystal again (HGSS is good, but I want that old feeling and exhilaration). I actually went back to play it a couple years ago, but the cartridge had rusted up somehow. Same with my Red copy. Hmmph.

Gen 2 also brought some semblance of balance to the metagame as noted above me (I honestly forget about Sheer Cold until I play a friend who has it because of OHKO Clause). Gen 5 is so offense and weather oriented; when 125 attacking stats are barely cutting it and freaking Wobbuffet gets knocked out of Ubers AND OU, there’s an imbalance. Also, the new sleep mechanic is retarded.

I’ll probably end up playing UU more because of the team varieties and absence of 140-base attackers and all of that. Besides, UU’s always been fun.

^ man I remember trying to play gold & silver again but they suffered from the battery issue IIRC.

In Gen 1, the only ghost attack was nightshade, so ghosts were worthless against psychics in more than one way…

That type wasn’t developed enough at the time…

In Gen 2, they introduced all of the new types, but they were balanced within reason…

Psychic types got raped though…

Gen III introduced the nature mechanics, but balance wasn’t at a point of no return… the Gen that knocked the game off balance for good was IV… the new items, the new moves, crazy type pairings, and the physical/special split…

Don’t forget that the Ghost type in G1 also had Lick, but it barely did any dmg due to poor bases. The most notable ones Haunter and Gengar were absolutely destroyed by being part posion, and this also spelled Doom for many Grass types.

My favorite pokemon in G1 has gotta be Dragonite (well outside the obvious Mew choices). But the pokemon was hindered by having only 1 dragon type move that was set dmg, so it’s potential was lacking in some aspects. One of the best physical moves in G1 was Body Slam, but you could only use it once and you pretty much was forced to use it early.

If you used a ghost type against Bruno’s Machamp, he won’t be able to touch you. Gary’s team is “wild-trained” and therefore have moves not usable in a regular battle (Arcanine w/Roar, Rhydon w/Tail Whip at that stage of the game, etc.) R/B is a very, very silly game.

Actually, Psychic was immune to Ghost type in Gen 1. This was changed in Gen 2. Ghost was still useless as an attack type until Gen 4’s physical/special split. Ghost was a physical type before.

Dragonite was really damn solid in Gen 1, but Blizzard was on damn near anything that could learn it (it had 90 accuracy back then). Agility wrap Dragonite was really good.

So I found out about the Pokemon Emerald randomizer. Been having too much with it so far.

Got Whiscash, Dragonite, Vileplume, Sudowoodo, and Omastar. First two things I ran into were Sceptile and Rayquaza, but I had no Poke Balls so I was denied. Been hunting Kyogre, but it’s almost impossible to catch with just regular balls. :frowning:

I just played this guy on PO. The match was pretty funny (for me).

Yeah Metagross is the shit. Bulletpunch Gross saved me tons of times. <3

Strange. My cartridge still works to this day. 999:99 Hours son!

Caught all 251. (Celebi was hacked of course)

Had over 24 teams and 60+ Pokemon maxed out due to the Box Trick.

Went everywhere did* errything*. I don’t think I’ve ever played a game so thoroughly…

I’m loving this Sub/DD/Fly/Dragon Tail Salamence. It’s been working surprisingly well. I got the idea from a sub bounce Gyarados set that I saw once in Gen 4. Here’s another replay.

LOL. The battle started off decent, but then it just descended into idiocy as the turns started piling up… Who switches a 1% mon into Stealth Rock when you still have a relatively healthy Forry? Why would you use Scald on Porygon2 after it has Traced Water Absorb? I could go on and on… That Salamence was complete lolz. Ruined that guy’s train of thought for sure.

“Who uses Fly on Salamence? Must be a noob… I’ll switch in Vaporeon for the quick kill… DRAGON TAIL… Goddamnit!”

That Salamence set is pretty nice but man those guys were terrible. Biggest downside to it though is the limited PP of Dragon Tail. I’d try getting Salamence started up after setting up Rocks/Spike/TSpikes for the maximum return on those Dragon Tails. You could possibly even repeat the strategy with Dragonite for maximum annoyance, lol.

Swag, Pokemon Online is like Pokemon Dream Team…

Interface is clean and everything… cool shit, good shit indeed…

Development seems slightly more open imo…

I’m sure most of you guys know about this (or maybe not), but here’s a new online, in-browser client that’s currently in Beta:

http://pokemonshowdown.com/

Just sign up with a username and you can start making a team right there and then. Laid out pretty nicely, though some things are obviously unfinished. Just found it recently and haven’t used it yet to battle.
