Final Gambit Sheddy is lol. But I think Flareon still being ass is like tradition by this point, kinda like there will always be a legendary trio (or in recent gens, two sets of trios), a pixie-like legendary, and the big bad uber cover legendary. As these things persist, so too must Flareon’s low-tier status…
pokemon games are full of trolling. And not just the pokemon, but the people as well. Remember back in R/B, when that rocket guy offers you a spot on team rocket on nugget bridge? Whatever happened to that option?
So true. Not all Eeveelutions were created equal. :shake:
I’ve always wanted a game where you play as Team Rocket/Aqua/Magma/Galactic/Plasma. That’d be pretty sweet.
Well, Skarmory is back in business now… The point I was trying to make was Skarm is an overall better physical wall than Glisc (better healing overall, better defenses), but, while Excadrill was running things Gliscor was more in favor due to countering Excadrill better.
I think “no impressive bulk” is a pretty huge understatement… it has 140 base defense. Overall it does the job better than just about any other physical wall, except maybe Hippowdon. But it mostly depends on the opponent. With all the powerful pokemon running around these days, walling seems to be more about match ups. Like Gliscor, Hippo, or even Slowbro are your better options in walling Terrakion, whereas Skarmory is the best option against something like Haxorus.
But, you cannot fault people for picking Gliscor with no recovery options when all he really needs is EQ (that’s STAB’D) to destroy Excadrill, in which almost all of them pretty run in a variety of movesets. No matter how good Skarmory’s defense is, defensive Gliscor can still manage the task at hand and kill the pokemon in question. Is better to phase out Excadrill or downright destroy him? That’s what it came down to for most people.
140 base defense is not the reason Skarmory remains OU. Rhyperior has 130 which is still very impressive, but his typing doesn’t allow to utilize walling proceedures in a way Skamory’s Steel/Flying can. While Gliscor is X4 weak to common ice attacks, he remains resistant to power increasing fighting moves and their priority. He gains a thunder immunity and still resist EQ the same way Skarmory can, in fact, the only real thing that Skarmoy DOES have over Gliscor is resisting dragon-type attacks now (remember toxic will only help the posion heal ones). The same way Gliscor is weak to water, Skamory is weak to fire. Both have options to Roost and lose their flying type, yet this opens up Skamory to deadly EQs should he be faster.
Skarmory also has access to both SR and Spikes. Gliscor has to sacrifice Poison Heal for SR. In exchange Gliscor has more offensive presence and the ability to Baton Pass Agility and/or Swords Dance.
Sorry if this was already posted but

I know all of that, the point I was trying to make overall, is toward the over-centralization that Excadrill caused, in that Skarmory is generally the superior physical tank, but before the Excadrill ban, Gliscor was the more predominately used due to the ability to beat Excadrill, and to a lesser extent, Conkledurr, who also saw a lot more use due to the ability revenge Excadrill with mach punch.
Now that Excadrill is gone, neither Conkledurr nor Gliscor is as commonly seen, and more teams are switching out to Skarm. As well, a lot more teams are running choice scarf revenge killers… which is something almost entirely unseen before the Excadrill ban.
Coming out of the GEN 4 metagame, everything was VERY offensive oriented. So many things can break walls down and setup to sweep, and those days where SkarBliss pretty much sealed you a win were long gone. I haven’t checked the Smogon usage rates at all lately, but everyone I’ve played pretty much agreed that a metagame with more offensive capabilities were more enjoyable. If people really are turning to Skarmory with Excadrill gone (which I’m not saying they aren’t), then I would expect an increase in Magnezone to trap those without Shed Shell. Same way when Deo-S was OU and we saw an increase in Pursuit Spiritomb’s.
Every time something powerful gets left in OU, it gives chances for pokemon that were RU or UU to get promoted because they unusably counter that particular pokemon well. Smogon rates pokemon based on usage, and they only ban the ones that are too powerful in question. While I’m sure Conkledurr and Gliscor won’t fall to UU anytime soon, not using them is a problem within itself because they are still two very good pokemon that can be used for different purposes.
Definitely.
I’m pretty sure Gastrodon was in the low tiers earlier on, but jumped to OU as a staple to most rain teams for the sole purpose of beating Rotom-w, who is everywhere, and otherwise molests the typical rain abusers.
I decided to start playing Mystery Dungeon Blue again last week. Purity Forest is the dumbest shit I have ever had the displeasure of playing. What idiot thought that it was a good idea to make dungeon like this? I’ve just been haxing my way through with a Claydol with teleport and a pass scarf, only to get raped by random moves like mach punch that hit through it. I’m glad that there’s an A-OK code generator, but this dungeon super annoying.
Anyone here manage to beat it? I’m really thinking of just busting the AR out for this one.
I ended up ARing this one. I probably would have thrown my DS out the window if I didn’t. On level 90 something there was this monster house that I teleported into that had a Parasect, 2 Aerodactyl, and 2 Tropius and about 4 other pokemon. The Parasect put me to sleep immediately and from across the room with Spore. Both Aerodactyl used Agility, making all of the opponents in the room act 4 times as often as me. The Tropius had Razor Leaf, which hits from full-screen and would have been been an immediate loss if regardless of what I did.
I’m gonna have to watch someone do this legitimately on youtube.
My new AR came in the mail today, man it’s been so long since my last one.
Gonna have some fun with it <3
I heard Castform was busted in that game for some reason. Maybe try using that?
I only played the second one, and I was surprised at how good it was. Oh, and they have 4 dungeons like Purity Forest.
On another note, fuck Monster Houses.
I watched a video and a guy did it with Alakazam. It turns out that Alakazam has ridiculously high defensive stats for a level one pokemon. He didn’t start taking more than 1 damage until the 60th floor or something.
Ctrl+f Alakazam and compare its level 1 stats with everything else.

I recruited a Kadabra and evolved it to use Alakazam for the wish cave, though that dungeon should be a hell of a lot easier since you can bring items and a team.
I have a Castform and I use it with Groudon/Kyogre and a Chlorophyll/Swift Swim user. Weather ball does a ton of damage, but it’s not absurdly overpowered like Bullet Seed. Unfortunately, Castform doesn’t get Powder Snow (hits entire room) until level 10. I was going to try it with Charizard or Articuno because they start with Heat Wave/Powder Snow, but I didn’t think that they would do enough damage on the higher floors.
I’m thinking about getting Explorers of Sky or the 3 versions on Wii. Aside from a few annoying dungeons and overly hard to recruit pokemon (Kecleon) these games are really fun.

hey guys I decide to put me vs bbq up, of course back then Excadrill and Deoxys-S weren’t officially banned yet (I think?). Can’t believe this thread has only had one 5 GEN battle :sad face: but I might start getting some stuff vs other people different website.
also, sorry about the blurry look. For some reason my camera doesn’t record off handhelds particularly well.

So Pokemon Sunday just aired, and the third versions of Pokemon Black and White were finally revealed. Yes, versions.
Not Pokemon Grey, but Pokemon Black 2 and White 2.

Kyurem is also getting two new alternate forms. It’s coming out this June in Japan for the plain-jane DS, but is supposed to have DSi/3DS features, too.
