Official Mad Catz FightPad Feedback Thread

So wait a minute…

On every pad the diagonals are broken?

I exchanged my ps3 pad at Gay-meStop and got another. It seems to work fine for now. It sucks worrying if I have bad execution or that the control pad is defective

Not all of them are duds, sounds like it’s a 50% chance though.

Could you load up a game and try tapping the diagonals quickly?
I think what is happening is that people are hitting Up, Down, left or Right and rolling over the diagonal most of the time instead of being able to directly hit the diagonal.

You can test this in VF5 Dojo mode with the display on, I think DOA lets you do this too.
Also you can just load up SF2HD or SFIV and very quickly tap the top right diagonal a bunch of times and then the top back diagonal a bunch of times and post your results.
If the diagonals are no good, your character will jump straight up or walk right or left instead of jumping forward and backward.

Please post your results and thanks.

Well, I bought one.

I didn’t see a problem with the diagonals, they function exactly like every other D-pad I’ve used.

Once I accustomed myself to it, DP rate 20/20, FB rate 18/20, 1-frame jump 10/20, 360 rate 16/20. That’s AWESOME for a d-pad.

Plus, it’s a six button controller that works on windows. As a side note, my QC sticker says QC 10 PASS

I also bought a new Xbox 360 Blanka pad. only game that gives my problems of any kind is Mortal Kombat vs DC. can’t do any moves at all. and yes i do know how to play the game. it sucks that you can do moves with the regular 360 pad and not this SFIV pad

Everybody who reads this thread really have to think about something. Your see, most of the people posting here are the ones with the defect pads, all the guys with good pads are probably sitting and playing a game right now. So i think theres a lot of guys whos pads are working, they are just not posting in here. So to sum up: i dont think that 50% of the pads are broken:)

That sounds close to what I got. I got even lower in the 1 frame jump, 8/20. I was only going for under 10 frames.
And I don’t think that is awesome for a D-Pad, it is awesome compared to a 360 D-Pad, but not a Saturn, Genesis, or many other D-Pads.
It’s just way too squishy and has too much play on it.

I disagree, I think the majority of people who bought the pads are jumping in and just tossing a fireball or a dragon punch and assuming all is well. The pad rolls onto diagonals most of the time, it just can’t hit them directly well at all.
Its when they start trying to quickly jump forward and backwards (or crouch dashing in VF5), and their character jumps straight up or just walks left or right is when you start to see the Fightpads flaws.

Maybe yours, but mine fails on diagonals whether I’m trying directly or rolling.

I have the ps3 pad so I’m not sure the diagonals issue is the same with the xbox version, but the diagonals work fine on mine. Seems the ps3 and xbox each have their own problems. On my first ps3 pad I had:

  • down direction on the pad would get stuck
  • right direction on the pad would get stuck
  • random buttons presses would engage
The controller is pretty easy to take apart, so you might want to mess with the rubber contacts on the dpad to see if that can correct your diagonals problems. It helped in my situation temporarily, but it was better to get an exchange. Also there’s no warranty sticker seal so the store you got it from won’t know that you opened it up.

I’ve been seeing alot of threads about defective pads. I knew going in that MadCatz was iffy as far as quality, I own both the 360 and PS3 fightpads and haven’t seen any of the problems others have been posting.

Edit:

Haha! There we go, I went into training and spammed the up direction and it stuck. I see now.

Good to get some good review! I would like to make a request: Everybody who has a pad which works, please write here!

The pad stuck?

Man, I’m getting anxious. My Xbox 360 just RROD’d on me too!! :looney::rofl::confused:

I got too much power in these guns baby!

yea it weird. I’ve been playing for an hour almost after it happened and it’s been working fine. I pressed real hard on the d-pad a couple of times and did 360 motions and it worked fine and then it acted up again. I changed the batteries and had no problems since.

Do turbos even work with .Vs games in terms of mashing out super for more hits? I remember when I had MSH Vs SF for the PS, I could mash in more hits than just holding the turbo button.

Random tib-bit

Then I used gameshark’s god mashing code, never knew ken’s qcf+KK super did 60% off.

I just picked up a fightpad for my ps3 and tested it on SF2THDR. The turbo feature isn’t consistent as sometimes the first hit or the second hit would register too slow so the opponent blocks either one. When it connects though, I can chain more hits (jabs) than by manually pressing it.

Although the ps3 is a wireless controller, I don’t agree with it having to use freakin 2 AA batteries. I would rather forego the wireless and have a wired controller w/o having to worry about replacing the batteries.

Also another issue that I noticed was that with Ken I can usually cancel a cr. forward into his super, but instead of the super I get his qcf kick. Strange thing is that when I set forward kick to the shoulder button, I can pull it off just fine. Weirdness I tell ya.

Hi All. My first post here! I’m sure you’ll be getting an influx of noobs like me with SFIV on the horizon, so hopefully you won’t get too annoyed by us.

Anyways, I went to the Gamestop in Herald Square, NYC, yesterday (2/13/09) and they had several FightPads on the shelf (mostly Blanka though, and no more Ken). I snagged a Ryu and Chun Li controller for the PS3 and tested them out on HD Remix.

Positive Impressions:

  • Diagonals work perfectly. I haven’t had any problems with the diagonals, jumping in all directions, etc etc. I tried mashing the Dpad around too, but nothing got stuck.
  • Face buttons are decent. They feel fine, not superb or anything, but I have nothing to complain about. The placement of the 6 buttons are great and it’s definitely great to have them all on the face.
  • Shoulder buttons are really stiff and they barely depress. I don’t know how often I’ll be using them but I guess the fact it barely depresses can be good for some people.
  • Turbo functions all work great, at both speeds, and I tested every button on every speed for both FightPads I bought.
  • Artwork / cosmetics are awesome. I like the Chun Li one more, but they are both great.
  • Fits nicely in my hand. I have medium sized hands and the controllers are very snug. The bottom part of the FightPad is a rubber like texture, so it serves some added comfort for your palms.
  • EASY ON MY THUMBS. Probably my favorite part about it. I hooked up 1st player with the FightPad, and the 2nd player with the Dualshock3, and doing dragon punches over and over again were ten times more comfortable on the FightPad than the Dualshock. I never noticed how irritating the motion can be on the fingers when using the Dualshock because of the separation between the up/down/left/right arrows. On the FightPad however, it has a nice large smooth surface area and making circular motions on it feels very nice. I’m totally happy!

NEGATIVE IMPRESSIONS

  • I CAN’T SEEM TO GET BOTH FIGHTPADS WORKING AT ONCE. I’m not exactly sure what’s going on here, but when I have both FightPads plugged in, one of them keeps losing connection with the usb port connected to my PS3. The light starts flashing on the usb port, as well as functionality to the controller goes in and out. I thought it maybe my batteries (I’m recharging them right now), but it seems unlikely because I swapped them back and forth between controllers and it had no direct correlation to which controller phased out. Anyone else have this problem? I’ll keep you posted if I can figure out what’s going on.
  • The on/off and the dp/ls/rs toggles are pretty cheaply built. Not a big deal but I feel like switching them back and forth will eventually lead to some sort of malfunction. I could just be paranoid, though.
  • Lame packaging. Not really an impression just a bit of a complaint. The SF controllers for the PS2 several years ago came in some sweet ass packaging (collector’s box and all). I kinda wish they did the same for this release instead of the typical blister wrap.

Lastly, and for your viewing pleasure, I snapped up some pictures for y’all.

Hey dude thanks for the info and the nice pics.

I ordered the Chun pad too, the art work looks sweet on it!

Sounds strange about the two pads not working together, maybe the signals are conflicting.

reading all these posts made me think more about the fightpad i bought a couple days ago. i knew the diagonals were a bit off, but i thought i would get used to them… i went into training and tested to see how much it actually messed up… it was a lottt… so i decided to get my money back… guess ill stick to the analog on the 360 controller =/…
