Official Mad Catz FightPad Feedback Thread

omg madcatz is so pathetic. anyways, is there any 360 controller with a really good dpad? i wont waste 80 bucks for some cheap stick neither will i waste a tremendous amount of money for a good one.

I got the PS3 one, and I am having no issues as of yet. I popped in MK vs DCU immediately and tested it out because I saw this thread not too long ago. On the PS3, I can confirm that all specials and fatalities (didn’t try ALL of them) work. I did specials for Scorpion and Subzero and their fatalities and was able to pull them off in Arcade, kombo challenge, 2player and practice. In practice mode I can see the directions and buttons displayed.

I know your issue is with the 360 one, but I figured I’d test the PS3 version.

More Impressions:

I’ve been playing Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3) and I’ve been having no issues still. diagonals work quite well. I’ve been doing moves that require full circles and half circles and they are registering fine.

You don’t “waste” any money if the stick is good.

That’s too bad about the 360 pads. I have a stick, but I’m always game for a pad with a Street Fighter layout.

oh yes it is wasted. its just a game. im not some freak who’ll play this for the next 10 years till the next sf comes out so ima stick with 40 bucks max per controller.

@ topic: did some madcatz guy already comment on that issue? ok senseless question since the answer will be no anyways but its worth a try^^

i feel your pain. 150 is a lot to ask, unless street fighter 4 is going to be like your main hobby. if it’s not or you don’t have the time or energy dedicated to it then your only options are the 40 and 80 dollar options (not that you could even get a TE stick at retail price if you wanted). the SE stick has clickier buttons and a clunkier stick, but unless your an expert it probably won’t hold you back. but 80 is still a lot for most people especially in this economy, and the other option is a highly defective pad that’s $40 which is a lot to pay for a pad that might not let you play at a high level if you decide you want to. it’s kinda depressing. :frowning:

I don’t “do stick” so this is my only option as a 360 player. I just gotta try to exchange this thing and hope for the best. If I can’t get a new one/ working one, I’ll just grudgingly go along on the 360 version until the PC version comes out in the summer and I can use my Saturn Pad.

No such thing as a good 360 dpad. Still doesn’t exist.

http://www.ufighterx.com/guides/videogame/360dpadfix/360dpadfix.htm You can try this.

There is also a Limited Edition Green Xbox 360 controller that was made for PES, but they were only released overseas in the UK (afaik), and they’re kind of hard to come by. The dpad wasn’t really that much better than a sanded OEM controller anyways.

I’m having a lot of diagonal issues mostly upright with my PS3 pad. Unfortunately it was the last one my local gamestop had in stock so I’m not sure if I should attempt to return it or contact madcatz. Do you think madcatz would even do anything about it?

I have two fightpads for the 360. I have no issues with both pads. Except that i cannot do specials in MK VS. DC. I am in love with this pad. All I need now is sreet fighter 4.

maybe i wasnt clear.
game tested: xmvsf on fba
character used: cyclops/mega optic blast
no turbo: 12 hits max
with fastest turbo: 12-13 hits
manually mashing (i don’t even mash that fast): 14-15 hits

maybe i have a defective turbo, but damn, its pathetic.

i can use turbo to press lp and it looks really fast. but looks can be deceiving

Did you enable turbo for every button?

ok new problem with my ps3 pad.

i was playing and out of nowhere, it gets stuck on right. it stays like that until i plug the usb dongle and turn off the fightpad.

Standard Edition Joystick sticks on ±90% of the sticks. There is a washer that appears to be scraping away at the PCB on the stick, big problem.

guy…wrong thread

I purchased a Madcatz 360 Blanka Fightpad on 2/06/2009.
I have tested it extensively in SF2HDR, and in Virtua Fighter 5 for the 360.
I have also tested it in SF3:3s, DDSOM, SFA3, MVC, MUGEN for PC. (GGPO/FBA for all but MUGEN)

Performing motions like fireballs Dragon punches, reverse DP (Fei Long) is more or less ok.
I can do 360 and 720 motions, though none as reliably as I am used to with many other controllers such as the Saturn Genesis SNES PS1, PS2 pads.

The problem is with diagonals. To test this at 1st I just kept tapping the top right and top left diagonals quickly to make my SF character jump.
Diagonals randomly registers no matter how I try to press them.
Many times the character will jump straight up, or walk left or right.
Rolling into a diagonal from the Up, Down, Left or Right positions works ok.

To thoroughly test this out I loaded up VF5’s Dojo and enabled all command displays.
Here are the results of one of the tests:

Madcatz 360 Blanka Fightpad:
The diagonals registered 1st and correctly less than half of the time.
8 out of 20 tries hit the diagonal 1st.
This was while concentrating and figure out the best way to hit the diagonals. It is very tricky.
The top-left diagonal seems to be the worst, though all were very unreliable.

Sand Modded Official Wireless 360 Pad:
The diagonals registered 1st and correctly almost every time with both the D-Pad and Analogue stick 18 out of 20 times,
and the times I missed it seemed to be my fault.

I can see that many of the reviews, like the youtube one, was just someone jumping in and throwing a few fireballs and DPs(or fei longs kick).
My pad can do this somewhat reliably. What my pad fails at is simply being able to accurately hit half of the 8 directions.
The 4 diagonals, are completely unreliable, and this makes the quality of the D-Pad unacceptable especially given its name and purpose.

I also wonder why they chose an unorthodox Mushy big floaty pad. The floating pads of the Genesis and Saturn controllers were not like this,
they did not have this much play or a squishy feel to them.
A D-Pad for fighting games needs to be precise and fast, like the Saturn, Genesis and DC D-pads. Even the SNES, PS1, and PS2 D-Pads while not as comfortable,
they had no accuracy issues.

Some people suggested that I buy a stick.
The problem is I was not looking for “a pad to eventually upgrade to a stick”.
I did not buy a pad because I cannot afford a stick.
I bought a pad because I play my fighting games with a pad.

For anyone who may read this, I thank you for your time.

My ps3 Blanka pad did the same thing. It also was stuck in the down position. It mostly happened with charge characters and Zangief. I also had some random buttons presses come out. I took it apart twice and it only temporarily fixed the d-pad problem. I think the rubber contacts that touch the pcb is getting stuck in the pressed position. I rotated the rubber contacts and it fixed the problem until I used a charge character again. Very disappointed with the quality of the pad. I’m going to exchange it tomorrow and see if the problem persists.

For gods sake MadCatz… Defective controllers all over the place! Why?? OOOH WHY!!! I was gonna buy one, but it doesnt look good at the moment, plus i dont have the cash for the stick, so im pretty ****ed:(

Oh dear MadCatz, looks like you guys are close to ruining all of the hype you had built over your “new, improved high quality service”.

The main point of this pad is the phenomenal d-pad it’s supposed to have. And it looks like it could be the biggest defect on the product.

I’m glad people aren’t suffering in silence about the pads, I should be getting my Xbox Chun pad in a week, if it’s defective I’m going to get it refunded/exchanged asap.

I am going to exchange and try another Fightpad next Tuesday which is when my best buy said they are updating their stock.
I am not very hopeful though, i can’t see diagonals being accurate on a pad this thick squishy and loose.
