Official Mad Catz FightPad Feedback Thread

I got a receiver from madcatz and it works however the full batt timining out is still there.
thinks im gonna give up an get a TE stick

Yeah i got a TE stick as well…
I loved the fightpad i was so awesome on it.
But now its just sitting there collecting dust now.
It would be great if they didnt break so easily.

A friend who got the fightpad (ps3 version) told me that the home button on the fightpad doesn’t work when he uses it on the PC version.

Anyone tried that and found a workaround? I’d really appreciate it.

I could see why people would want the comic con one because its not character specific…

I just got the 2nd Fightpad ( Chun-Li ) PS3 version and when connected both they are doing weird things like jumping when I don’t push the d-pad … anyone with same problem ? When only one is connected to PS3 both works OK. BTW anyone with Akuma fightpad PS3 ?

I am officially done with this pad, it’s time to make the jump to a TE stick. I have had enough of being beaten at hi level play because i just can’t get the response speed i need to keep up with a player of the same level who is playing with a stick. I’m tired of only being able to play for an hour before my hand starts to hurt and my responsiveness slows down from having to put huge pressure on madcatz crummy, unresponsive d-pad to make sure i get the moves i want. I’ve been playing SF on pads since the SNES controller in '92 and have gone through loads of different ones, and this one causes me no end of frustration.

The d-pad is awful. It’s big and deep and floaty and unresponsive, and aside from that it’s cheaply made so one of the direction buttons is bound to go sooner or later (on mine it’s the :d: direction that isn’t registering properly unless you literally jump on it, and i’m sick of being caught with low attacks on wakeup because my character only blocked high when i clearly held the diagonal). Also the buttons are big and cheap and loose and unresponsive and can’t be relied on in clutch situations.

My advice: steer clear of these pads. It will be fine for a few months if you’re lucky, but it will eventually die because it’s cheap plasticky crap, and it’s shaped so differently to anything else on the market that getting used to a replacement pad or stick will set your game back seriously while you adjust.

I’ve been using mine for months now, and they’re great.

The only issue I’ve had with the xbox one is the rubber backing, which madcatz sent me replacements for free and I switched out in 10 minutes.

I’m having an issue with my ps3 one, it won’t sync up. After calling them it turns out it’s most likely a dongle issue. They’re sending me a new dongle ASAP and it should be here by the end of the week.

yeah, the build quality fucking sucks, but it’s better than the standard controllers for button layout, and the dpad just takes some getting used to.

Anyhow, hopefully this dongle will fix the issue, otherwise I’m going to attempt to hack my ps3 fightpad to make it wired and get rid of the bullshit syncing issue.

oh, and for those wondering, I main chun and have 0 problems pulling off her most intricate stuff, just because you can’t do crazy shit in one day doesn’t mean it’s a piece of crap, it just means you need practice. In all fairness though, I haven’t used them in HDR, but in BlazBlue I rarely have trouble either.

Just throwing another dissapointing post into the mix.

I have a fight pad for the 360 and for the PS3, both Ryu although I suspect this makes no difference.

My PS3 fightpad is flawless and all my inputs are read with the utmost accuracy. Playing on it feels very natural and I can’t sing it’s praises enough. As far as fighting style controllers go, this is the greatest in my opinion and I have a blast using it. Absolutely not a single complaint.

My wife purchased a 360 version for me when we learned that an upcoming local tournament would be using the 360 version of SF IV. I began playing on a friend’s 360 version of the game prior to the tournament since he needed to get used to his new 360 hori stick. I immediately noticed something was wrong and quickly realized that the game was only recognizing my diagonal inputs only about 3 out of 10 times. Over the course of a few days, I began compensating for this by making my finger movements very distinct and forceful, which of course was distracting and eventually made my thumb a little sore.

In short:

The PS3 fight pads are outstanding and if you are so inclined, it definitely warrants your purchase.

The 360 version of the fightpad is terrible for whatever reason and should be avoided at all costs.

i have the 360 version and i don’t have any issues with it. there is a switch on the bottom for the dpad, did you make sure it was set to dpad?

Yes, I’ve tried both settings. Didn’t seem to make a difference for me.

very weird, that sucks =\

God, the inconsistencies in these things is terrible. I love my 360 version, but my ps3 version is the one having the issues. I just hope like hell I’m not at a tourney and something goes wrong

I have experienced the exact same thing. I had always been using a fightpad for PS3, I picked one up for the 360 and when I started using it, noticed INSTANTLY it did not register ANY diagonal inputs. It was an absolute joke. I let someone else test it, they thought it was actually faulty.

Anyway, my PS3 fightpad has now developed another fault. Update on my situation;

problem 1: The fightpad use to ‘stick’ in the down position, it got worse and worse and eventually became un-usable. I paid postage to return it to madcatz, they repaired it and sent it back all within a week.

problem 2: About a month later, the fightpad kept blinking red as did the receiver, and I would lose connection. This got worse and worse until the fightpad and receiver would just both flash red and not connect. Madcatz posted out to me another receiver, problem solved.

problem 3: After problem 1 and 2 I decided to give up on the fightpad and learn a stick, I now use a TE stick fitted with octagonal gate. The fightpad has had v little use but again problem 1 is back, its beginning to stick in the ‘down’ position making it un-usable. Madcatz are saying return it to us again.

Now tbh I am furious that something so flawed was allowed to be released in the first place. I know they just expect me to pay and return it, and they will keep repairing it until its eventually out of warrenty. This is not an ideal long term solution for me, I am gonna take this further now because I have had enough. What are my chances?

Controller Virgin’s impressions

Never owned a controller in my life as I’ve been a PC gamer since before consoles (other than pong), so maybe my perspective will be a little different. Probably irrelevant as I have nothing to compare my experience with, but here goes:

I was playing on keyboard and doing well, but rapid EX’s made me worried I’d run through keyboards quickly. Also, more than 2 keys pressed at once seemed unreliable on keyboard, so I got the fightpad.

I was really excited at first, even having read the reviews of the diagonals problem. My moves lacked all subtlety though: Much Mashing, especially with the thumb, trying to get used to a motion I’d never done before. After a few days of frustration and sore thumbs I began to approach my ability with a keyboard (All normal trials done for a few characters, but still a fight-game NUB), and now the diagonals problem is really interfering with my execution.

Its actually 2 different problems (at least):

  1. Executing diagonals intentionally is inconsistent unless I really think about mashing.

  2. F, B, F moves are inconsistent because diagonals ‘sneak in’. Playing Chun Li, my regular super is OK on its own, but in a combo is miserable.

Since a lot of people have commented on issue #1, I’ll try to address issue #2

I think the width of the move pad is far too great. Going DB/UF/DB or doing F,B,F is a vast distance mired with wobbly pitfalls of other directions. There are only a few thumb positions I can hold where I’m at all confident of pulling off a F,B,F, mK, and these are tentative even then.

Then again, this could be because I’ve hardly ever used this type of control before. But its to the point where I’m about to return the pad to the store and go back to keyboard until I get good enough to justify a stick.

A final note: I did some searching for alternate drivers for the fightpad, and it does look like a few people are trying to get XBCD to work with it. That might help PC users like me fine-tune the sensitivity to some degree, but doesn’t alleviate what seems like a design flaw (or 2) in the movement pad

An uplifting update:

My wife and I returned our 360 version of the fight pad to Best Buy today. This time, we took home a Chun-Li controller. They didn’t have Chun-Li when she picked the first one up, so clearly this came from another shipment of controllers.

Of course the best news is that this controller works perfectly. It feels just as great as my PS3 fight pad. We took it to our friends house and had a good time going at it in SFIV; this one has no input problems whatsoever.

So, now I feel like I can recommend any version of the fightpad, but for those of you still on the fence, it might be to your benefit to make sure you don’t go for one that has been sitting on a store shelf for a while. I think the later shipments might be much more reliable controllers.

Ok my 2nd receiver is now dead gave out during a fight
i hope madcatz sends a 3rd one
they asked me all these questions as if this isnt the norm for ps3 version
i wonder if someone will find a fix have 2 useless receivers sitting on my desk

:lame:

PS3 Fightpads

I bought three of these failures. All three have been repaired by Madcatz and all three continue to fail. Is there any way to install a cord in these?

I’m sure It’s a possibility, i haven’t looked into it yet though. So far my dual mod is the closest thing to getting a wired ps3 madcatz fightpad.

I think that may be my next fightpad project, to see if it can modded in a way to have a USB cable instead of wireless.

My PS3 fightpad was working fine until about 2 months after I bought it. It looked like some kind of connection issue as the controller kept blinking, even after changing batteries several times.

I called Mad Catz (also e-mailed, but they got back to me after 2 weeks via e-mail) and spoke with a live rep. He took down my info and in about a week and a half I got another dongle. Pad works fine now, hasn’t dropped inputs or anything. I usually use my Modded SE stick or HRAP 3 now, but sometimes I use my pad if I take my comp somewhere and wanna play GGPO on the go (pad works great on windows vista).

Probably best fight pad I’ve used. Much better than the nubytech 15th ann. editions.

fight(ING THE)pads

Yea, madcatz supposed repaired teh controllers and sent new receivers as well btu it didnt take two weeks before they began to fail again. Mine are ps3, I wonder if the 360 fightpads with theri cords fail in the same way.

All I know is these suck and as a result of their failure I have no interest in Street Fighter anymore. Its been a constant in my life since 1992. I feel like someone I knew died.
