If you really did purchase it new then you should be able to link them to the auction as well as provide them with a copy of the e-mail invoice. I’d try to get them to repair it before cracking it open and tinkering with it.
I’m definately not gonna try opening it up myself just yet, I’ve contacted the ebay seller to see if he still has the receipt…
update:
Got the receipt off the ebay seller I purchased it off, so as soon as it starts playing up again its off back to madcatz, at the moment it is working absolutely fine again =/
Pros: It’s a way better option than using the ol’ Sixaxis. Having the 6 buttons on the face is just obviously much more SF friendly.
It’s also good for less hardcore players that don’t ever use a stick and are more used to playing with a d-pad in general.
Cons: I’ve had the same issues mentioned above with a PS3 version of the pad, except sometimes it gets stuck in the “UP” direction instead of down. So every once in a long while the character will just neutral jump out of nowhere on it’s own. To remedy it, you have to kind of press down hard UP on the pad in order for it to return to normal.
The fact that it’s wireless also feels like there is some slight lag occasionally. I try to keep the accompanying wireless receiver attached to a USB extension cable and as close to the player/pad as much as possible when playing.
Recommended changes: Maybe just keep it wired like the 360 version. Wouldn’t have to worry about wireless lag or interference.
I also think it would benefit from an even “looser” d-pad. The floating d-pad tension is pretty good, but it would be much better from being not quite as stiff. There is a break-in period, however and I can imagine with repeated usage it being a little looser with more play.
Overall Rating: 8.5/10
Good job Mad Catz. Now only if they would ship us more of those Tournament Edition Sticks. My god I’ve been waiting forever for them to take my $189.99 CAD.
Nagoo81…
you echo my sentiments exactly. When mine gets stuck in the down position I have to press down hard to get it back to normal and the d-pad definately is stiff to begin with but loosens up over time. If it did not stick, and if the buttons were a fraction more responsive I would say this is the absolute perfect fightpad for SF.
Madcatz should also have offered a wired version for the PS3. Would have preferred that tbh, and no need for batteries either.
I’ve had one since release for the 360 and surprisingly it’s held up okay thus far. Cosmetically the image has cracked and is pulling on the left corner of the dpad. I’ve worn my thumb out using the dpad- it’s been a hella long time since I actually used a dpad for a SF game. Otherwise the buttons are still responsive and the directional pad has been standup, my weak old hands not with standing.
I’m still shocked that Mad Catz actually put out a worthy product after so many years of garbage. If you’re on the fence and don’t want to go the stick route I’d pick one up. With that said, I’d still recommend going with a stick - be it custom, exhori2 or whatever you can get your hands on, less you end up like some of us older players with cramped arthritic hands.
I have the PS3 version and there’s also a crack on the casing to the lower-left of the dpad. I don’t know how it cracked because I’m very careful with my things and nobody else uses it. Could this be Madcatz’s fault?
I’ve got myself two of the fightpads and one works and the other one keeps randomly disconnecting from the usb dongle. I know is the controller and not the dongle because I tried using the dongle from the other one and still disconnects.
Is the only solution calling madcatz for them to send me a new one?
Upon further testing, I’ve found out that the problem is that whenever I push two buttons or directions at the same time, the controller loses connection with the dongle for a brief second. If I keep repeating it it completely disconnects and you have to press the home button to get it to connect again, like if it where in sleep mode.
Regretted buying this. At least the second one works, I hope it doesn’t break too.
So I kept trying diferent things tosee where the problem is. If you remove the batteries for 10 minutes and then turn it on again, it works for about 15 or 20 minutes, after that it goes back to disconnecting. I believe the problem is an electronic component and not a phisical problem.
Another update:
My fightpad is now officially DEAD!
Not even a month of use and the d-pad will not register left or right, its simply stuck in the ‘down’ position. It’s off back to madcatz for repair/replacement, will wait and see what they send back to me. :lame:
Do you guys contact Madcatz over the phone or email?
How long does it take for them to replace/fix the fightpad?
first impressions
Just got the fightpad in the mail today (Ken).
With the battery in, the controller has a nice weight to it. For some reason, I thought the pad would feel much more solid. The buttons and dpad have this kind of luft that I don’t really appreciate. It feels like one of the buttons could get jammed into the holes at anytime soon. The protruding d-pad, don’t get me started.
Then again, I haven’t had much play time. I test confirmed it w/ my PC playing some melty blood. Things seem to be alright. I need to play SF4 with it though. Then I can finally make my judgement on whether or not it is fighting game worthy.
A couple days later:
I’m getting used to the feel of this fightpad. I was wrong about the buttons, you get used to them and I think they’re actually solid. Not gonna cave in like I said earlier. The D-pad however…I’m starting to get a sense of the diagonal complaint. It’s like made for mistakes to happen. Sometimes, it just won’t register. My favorite fightpad? I don’t think it trumps the ZNES.
I keep missing my dp with this pad and I didn’t had any issue with the DS3. I know there’s a learning curve but I have the pad for more than a month now and I’m thinking of going back to the DS3. It’s a shame because I really like the buttons and having 6 face buttons is great, but at the moment I don’t feel confident to dp on reaction anymore and I think it’s hurting my game more than it is helping.
Just sad…
My 360 pad has lots of little cracks on the casing, mostly around the face buttons.Tiny hairline cracks, very thin but definitely the result of it not being playtested/built for purpose.I have a feeling that hitting the buttons too hard warps/bends the plastic and it cracks under the stress, but to be honest i’m not too bothered. It looks like it’s only the “Ryu” faceplate that has been stuck onto the pad that’s cracked, and the pad itself seems to be structurally intact. It doesn’t seem to be getting any worse or affecting the way it works, gameplay-wise so whatever. As long as i don’t have to replace it i’m happy.
I had read quite a bit on madcatz’ reputation for churning out crap before taking a risk on the fightpad, and to be honest i don’t think i’d buy from them again if i had another decent option, but that’s the problem really.Lack of other options mean that failings aside, this is still the best choice for pad players out there.
I’ve got the exact same problem with hairline cracks on the artwork as you with my 360 Ryu fightpad. It does appear MadCatz testing wasn’t that demanding. I didn’t even use it a huge amount I think I only had about 30 hours playing time before I got a stick. Considering there are plenty of people around with > 100 hours they could have done better on this. However as you said it didn’t seem to get much worse after the initial cracks appeared or affect it gameplay wise.
I’ve also had the issue described above about finding it harder to pull off DPs with the fightpad compared with a DS 3 when I switched to my mate’s PS3. Again I have also noticed that diagonals aren’t as easy to hit as they should be with it. It sounds as though everyone has had a fairly consistent experience. Which is something at least…
Hmmm my new fightpad doesnt have any problems, and ive been playing with it for over 50 hours already these 2 weeks.
Could it be I got one of the new shipment? (Maybe madcatz fixed all problems with the latest pads?)
I think all of you got old ones…, unresponsive dpad, buttons, ugly faceplate… mine has none:D
My feedback: it is unbelievable! best pad i ever used, all moves come out so smooth, i have no problems with charge characters…whats up with that lol.
even zangief 360 720 are alright, not the best, but all remaining characters rock.
I recommend padplayers get one now, you’re very likely to get a new fully functional one. Ima buy one more tomorrow =D
I hope the ones bundled with the PC version are as good of quality or better as the one you got.
fightpad problems
ive tried not to post on srk since im just a 2009, but i think i can help alot of people using the fightpad having problems.
my ryu fightpad would get stuck sometimes pressing down, and not even replugging in the dongle would fix it.
so i took it apart, wiped it all down with an alcohol pad, and tried it without the casing to check if it worked, sure enough it seems that some parts get dirty or something, and by cleaning certain parts of the PCB, it would start to function again.
i had to do this like 6 times, and everytime it would work, but the last time i broke off the ground cable for the battery pack(madcatz cheapness) and had to resolder it.
after soldering it back into place, and buffing the connections up, i put it all together and checked to see if it worked. it didnt.
so i thought after my constant alcohol baths of the pcb, i messed something up…trying to be a cheapass i call madcatz and try to get them to fix it, since was under warranty still.
the guy was super nice, asked me my problem, said it was most likely the dongle, since i took it apart several times etc i told him, " no i dont think it is the dongle" but he demanded it was, and put me on a list to get a new one.
i bought a blanka fightpad shortly after from the madcatz store, got it a few days later on my porch, plugged in the new remotes dongle, and without even turning the new controller on, tried my old one wich i thought was broken.
sure enough it worked, i havnt tried any ways to fix the dongle yet, but for the people with vertical/horizontal problems or any button problems, i suggest trying to clean the PCB.
Ive got my ryu pad since Februari, it was working 100% fine just till yesterday.
When I input right, it doesnt seem to feel a ‘click’. As if its rubberish in the pad. This sucks because I cant seem to dash to the right after a focus attack.
I tried to open it, but I cant seem to open the back even if I unscrewed all the 6 ones. Any suggestions?
I am on the fence after reading this thread, What is the warranty on the FIGHTpad in the UK I read on arcade stick thread it was 2 years for the sticks cant be the same for the pads can it? Which even then that 2year maybe on the TE version only due to the price and whatever rules the consumer trade group has for expensive electronics. If the warranty is not very long on these pads might go for a SE stick.
I’ve had my (Blanka) fight pad bout six weeks now. I have no real complaints about it. I did however notice the hairline fracture (near the turbo button) that others have mentioned.
I would have liked the fight pad to be a little thicker but like the fact that it has the rubber grips. I’ve been going back and forth as to whether or not buy a fight stick (now that they are more readily available) but more than likely won’t. Had I never bought the fightpad, I would be more inclined to buy a fight stick but since the fightpad has worked so well for me, I probably won’t
