Oddly enough, the one I have (Chun-Li, PS3) worked wonderfully as far as diagonals and button input went, but after about three weeks to a month of usage, the ring around the PS button started to blink and the controller stopped responding during a game. I decided to change the batteries in it, and now the controller and the USB dongle never seem to sync up, just blink on and off. Very disheartening.
Man… I guess I’ll just join the chorus here. I love using fightpads so I went to two different gamestops on release day and bought a chun-li and a blanka. They just plain didn’t work right though. I fiddled with them for hours… I’ll push a direction button a few times and it seems OK on the XMB then I’ll hit a direction and it will act like I hit it 30 times when I only hit one button :looney: Also the red light around the home button blink a few times every 45 seconds or so. When it blinks I have no controll at all. This is both pads that do this too!!!:arazz:
Madcatz does have some decent customer support though, the last e-mail said they were going to e-mail me some fed-ex labels so I can ship em off to be fixed. I hope they fix them cause I actually prefer pads for right now. I’m using the old anniversary fightpad with a ps2 to ps3 adapter right now to play SFIV, It works great but I would like to ditch the cord and have the home button handy.
So anyway it seems like a bunch of people have had this problem. Has anyone sent theirs off to be fixed or maybe even gotten one back in working order? I did replace my ps3 hard drive with a 500GB seagate and that sometimes causes trouble. It wouldn’t be doing this though would it? My sixaxis works perfect… I’ll test them on a friends console before I send em back I guess.Sorry for the long post…
Mine just did that shit too, I tried disconnecting it and reconnecting it which was a temporary remedy and now it does it after like 5 mins of playing, AND I just opened it Wednesday. Screw it, I’m finishing my stick and I’m returning this.
long time lurker first time poster here, been reading on this thread
Interestingly I have a ryu pad for xbox which seems to work perfectly.
Is this a trend with ryu pads working good yet others failing?
my 360 chun li pad is holding up well so far… but i am coming up close to that dreaded ‘one month’ period… i play for at least 2 hours a day so i would say i beat the hell outta this pad…
we’ll see what happens… i bet posting this just jinx’d me…
I’ve got a Ken FightPad for 360 and it works fine.
Having trouble with b,f,b,f supers but I think it’s from the longer throw of the dpad.
Nope.
Just got a Ryu pad an hour ago, and it sucks. I’m having the same diagonal problems as 99% of other fightpad owners.
Everything else about the pad is pretty much perfect, though. Really wish MadCatz’s quality control didn’t suck so much. -_- I’m gonna see if I can get this thing exchanged for another one.
i’ve had the chun-li version for a week now… it works pretty good, not 100% like a good stick probably though
for the diagonal thing, it works always for me because i realized you have to hold it with a little more emphasis towards back when DB, as compared to the original 360pad which is pretty flexible for DB
but other than that i think its a good improvement for sure over the normal pad, especially with the button layout and no longer using those massive trigger buttons
another really good thing is i noticed i don’t accidentally jump in the air when doing certain motions as with the 360 pad either
only time will tell how long it holds up though
im in serious limbo of whether i want to buy a fightpad or not cuz i definitely dont wanna waste cash on a stereotypical madcatz product:wink:
I’ve been using the PS3 Ryu FightPad since it came out and it still works perfectly. The batteries last a long time since I still haven’t had to change them.
update on my 360 fightpad…
been using for a month now, still about 2-3 hours a day… it’s def less responsive now and sometimes some of the buttons don’t register… it’s rare tho, not consistent… i do notice that the dpad is starting to favor the down position a bit…
So I decided to pick up a fightpad today despite what everyone has been saying in this thread about the diagonals not working as they should. The first thing I tried it on was a few games of SF2T in FBA and it was absolutely horrible. Could only do shoryukens roughly 50% of the time, and only when I was forcing the controller through the motion. Once I started to try and play naturally, I wasn’t able to do anything that involved a diagonal. All in all, very disappointed in the controller for anything on the PC. On to SFIV on the 360. I loaded up training mode and chose a few shoto’s to see how the controller would handle. I was very very impressed. Everything was so easy to pull off, and the controller just responded well. I then tried a few charge characters, and again was disappointed to see that the diagonals would only really work when holding the controller down really hard. I assume that I’m also going to have a hard time blocking, but I guess I’ll find that out tonight when I start playing a bit online with it. I have no problems whatsoever opening this up and trying to mod it to repair the diagonals. Has anyone else tried the fix that was posted earlier in this thread? Any other methods that have been discovered? I guess anything that will limit the throw of the d-pad will probably help the diags on this controller…
After 2 Months of HEAVY use, my xbox wired fightpad is beginning to show it’s age. It’s still my go-to option for streetfighter on the 360 as well as when i’m playing on the PC, but the D-Pad is definitely geting a bit creaky.Nothing major, just annoying stuff like getting sweeped cos it registers a :l: when i’m holding a :db: once in a while. The diagonals needed breaking in, like everyone has noted, but i find that i’ve gotta really press them now or they don’t make contact, which doesn’t exactly make for light, speedy work on the D-pad.:arazz:
B,F,B,F Supers are hit and miss sometimes too, that’s an issue on most pads i’ve played on, but moreso on this one cos of the sheer size of the d-pad, which is a little too big IMO.
It’s still the best option for XBOX in terms of fight pads, but damn, i’d love if we could get a decent, well made pad, that could take years of serious punishment instead of this cheap madcatz stuff.I’d pay anything for it.I’m sick or going through controller after controller because the down diagonals are fucked from blocking/charging in street fighter.
Edit: Will be looking into cracking this baby open and hacking it for a self build arcade stick as soon as it dies on me, which feels like it will be soon…
I just had to fix my fightpad, by using parts from a Saturn Controller, I imagine it’ll start happening to a lot of you as well.
The rubber pad that the dpad uses as a contact point with the Circuit board is pathetically poorly made. The rubber buttons just ripped off, after normal Dpad use.
I would expect no more from Madcatz, who has a long history of shitty products.
It may be useful to to take a part 1st party controllers or well-made ones you have around and try using the dpad contact as a replacement.
Has anyone been successful connecting and using two of these at the same time on the PS3?
Are diagonals consistent after swapping out the rubber dpad contact from a Saturn pad? That’s a pretty damn simple solution if it’s all it takes. I wish I would have gotten one of these to play around with now. The diagonal stories scared me off.
Comparison pictures would also be cool if you have the time.
Diagonals are much more responsive now.
I’ll get pictures up in a bit.
hi guys, I’m relatively new on here, have been browsing the site though getting some valuable SFIV tips :wgrin:
Anyhow here goes;
I’ve always been a pad user with SF, purchased a SE fightstick, hated it, sold it, and picked up one of these pads off ebay. The main thing that attracted me was the 6 face buttons, thought that would make things a hell of alot easier.
I have now had the pad for 2-3 weeks and been using it heavily, I’d say around 1-3 hrs a day!
On the first day the pad would ‘stick’, this was within the first few hours of use, the d-pad certainly felt abit stiff so I had to push down hard but it began to stick, not literally I mean the d-pad would remain in the normal position yet my character on screen would be crouching  Thought I might have to send this back so I contacted madcatz. In the meantime though, the pad has been playing fine and it hasnt stuck.
It’s now been 2-3 weeks of solid use, and all in all I really like the pad… if it was fault free. I’m use to the size and feel off it, I like the layout and design, the turbo setting on it is a joke though! I have been playing and I feel improving with it, but TODAY just within the last hour, again it began to stick in the down position. Happened 3 times before I decided to switch it off, so it looks like the fault is back.
Madcatz emailed me saying I need to provide them with a receipt, which I don’t have since I bought it off ebay. I already paid over the premium for this damn thing, they were next to impossible to get hold off anywhere else!
What can I do now?
I really like the pad alot, can definately see myself using this and playing SF4 for a longgg time to come but its so clear the thing is flawed. Madcatz are asking for a receipt which I don’t have.
^ That’s lame. Did you tell them that you’d paid a premium on eBay? I probably would angrily if they refused to take it in for repair.
Jrix mentioned above about swapping the dpad’s rubber contact with one from a Saturn pad. I wish he’d chime back in with more info on that. It may be a good solution.
I should have mentioned mine is a Blanka Fightpad for the PS3.

Mad Catz is committed to resolving your issue. If you believe your controller to be faulty, we do not recommend that you try to fix your controller yourself, as any mistakes will void the warranty on the device. The unit will need to be returned to us, so that the issue can be rectified at our service centre.
Please fill in the details below and email them to us, we will contact you as soon as possible regarding getting your unit back to our office. We will endeavour to fix the unit, or replace it if this is not possible. When it comes to returning the product, make sure the controller is packaged in its original packaging and all accompanying paraphernalia is included (plus proof of purchase).**
I said in brief:
**…The item was purchased off ebay and although it was brand new I do not have a receipt. Do I have to contact the seller for the receipt? What if he doesn’t have the receipt?
Who is going to pay to have the item posted back to you? I have already spend 50 on the product and have no intention of spending another penny on it, can you arrange collection for it if I provide you with my address…**
They then said:
**We need proof that the controller was purchased in new condition from ebay. If the unit was used/second hand then we cannot honour the warranty, any replacement would have to be taken up with the retailer.
Our repair turnaround is seven working days. We cannot send any replacements during the time that the faulty unit is back with us.
The pad has a return to base warranty which means that the customer pays to have the unit sent into us, then we will send the fixed/replaced unit back to you.**
Everyone else out there using the pad, please post how yours is getting on. If you have your own fixes please post guides and pics, I will be checking this thread everyday from now! If you are having to go through madcatz how are you getting on with them? This is my first madcatz product!
In all honesty I have really enjoying using the pad for the past 2-3 weeks, I’ve only used it with SF4, don’t really play any other games except RE5 but I use the standard sony pad for that. I do think this fightpad is good when its working but its sticking and its not even a month old, and if I try get it to unstick by pushing down hard I do hear a small clicking sound which can’t be good. It’s definately only a matter of time before it completely dies! :wasted:
