Official Mad Catz FightPad Feedback Thread

hey do you guys still love your fightpads?

I want one so bad, where are you guys finding these at?

yehaaaaaaaaa my 6 fightpads just arrived. Glad I finally have them.

But Im quite disapointed. The pad feels great, the buttons too, but the dpad… What shall I say… The diagnoals just dont work good enough :frowning: how can you guys play with that? In sf4, it works but not in other sf’s its terrible!!!

i posted this in the main ‘fightstick/fightpad’ thread but thought i’d share here too…

my friend and i were each able to pick one up at gamestop yesterday… just call around and you should be able to find one… hth…

as far as impressions, def a step up from the 360 dpad… i’m not having the diagonal issues like others have mentioned… the only character i use is ryu and i’m able to pull off any combo (including fadc’s) that people have posted/seen on youtube, including the hard trials… it’ll do until the te’s are in stock again…

i just hope they hold up until te’s come out…

so is my pad defect???

Just got mine and after 2 days of trying to break it in(hoping the diagnals would be more forgiving) I have to say that is a fucking piece of crap. What’s it going to take for anyone to bring back the sega saturn d-pad back into xbox controllers or atleast an adapter the works with. What a fucking waste of time and effort bothering those poor kids at EB everyday only to realize that it’s actually WORSE than xbox 360 pad. Another fine quality product from mad catz…ya right!

Salvage Your Mad Catz Fight Pad Easily

Greetting fellow SRK’ers,

As many of you have, I skeptically purchased a Mad Catz Fight Pad only to find out that in true Mad Catz fashion the controller was flawed (top diagonal input weakness). I can honestly say outside of this misstep, and the blisters forming on the inside of my right index finger and thumb this controller was almost perfect. It’s a simple yet devastating oversight to those who require precision. For players who generally like playing with the control pads this was a big  for all of us.

After throwing caution to the wind and cracking open my Fight Pad I can tell you a few things:
[]This pad has 4 directional inputs as you may have seen in this thread (not 8)
[
]The problem the majority of us are dealing with is not electronic, it’s button function
[]There is nothing to break-in (outside of training your fingers to over compensate to get the desired results)
[
]It’s 100% fixable (:arazz: MAD CATZ YOU WILL NOT WIN THIS TIME)
Our thumbs (those of us of this planet) naturally favor the bottom half of the controller because this is where our hands and arms originate in respect to the controller. It is why it’s not so hard to get the bottom diagonals, but hard to reach the upper diagonals (due to the larger D-pad).

**You’ll need: **
[]3.0mm small phillips head screwdriver
[
]Supermount Tape (From Radio Shack or somewheres)
[]Scissors
[
]A beverage of your liking to celebrate after

Lay the controller buttons down (so the buttons don’t spill out later)
[]Remove all the screws. Lift up the copyright tape to find the final screw.
[
]Remove the side rubber grips
[]Lift up the back shell
[
]Remove the DP/LS/RS switch and put it with your screws
[]Remove the 4 screws attaching the mother board to the button half of the controller shell
[
]Lift the controller cord out of the little grove it’s nestled in
[]Set the mother board aside (if the button activation pads fall off it’s okay, you can put them back easily, it’s not rocket science)
[
]Take a look at the D-Pad underside in all its stupidly flawed glory

Cut out a small square of Supermount tape with your scissors (it should be smaller than radius of the “up” tab of the d-pad)
[]Take off ONE side of the tape (though it won’t do anything if both sides are exposed)
**[
]Affix the tape to the “up” tab of the exposed D-Pad**
[]Use your finger to make sure the tape is nice and flat and secure and you’re DONE. Yes… Really! :wgrin:
[
]Screw your motherboard back in (make sure the wire is sitting snug in the groove you took it out of
[]Put the DP/LS/RS switch back in properly
[
]Screw the back shell back in
Viola. You’ve just participated in making Mad Catz look like the complete mindless dopes they are. :clown: I’m no smarty pants. I’m sure some one will come up with a more cleaner fix. If I can do it so can you.

Plug your controller in and test it out. Your finger won’t have to overcompensate to get your character to jump or do flash kicks, flying head butts, head stomps, or wall dives. All this while having greater control to charge attacks in any direction and having your buttons where you want them. CRACK OPEN YOUR DRINK AND CELEBRATE.

The moral of the story is. Mad Catz was too opportunistic and stupid to know that a bigger D-Pad would mean more work for the thumb get from “down” or “neutral” to “up”. Oh yah, and they are even more dumb for putting a shoulder button above the D-Pad (why not both on the right side?) but we’ll talk about that some other time.

Enjoy my friends. If this works, please immortalize me in SF & SRK history as the economy has taken away everything else I worked for.

Great write up man. I was wondering why it was so hard to do down/up charge moves. I thought my timing just sucked lol.

^bump

My d-pad crapped out on me today. a few days ago it got stuck in the down position for a while, but now its FUBAR. It got itself stuck in the down position again, and its not showing any signs of wanting to go back to normal.

Why is the d-pad such shit quality? Its feels so cheap.

Mine did the same thing. A week after buying it. I have been waiting for best buy to restock so I can buy another and return this garbage. I also bought a saturn controller and the dpad fell off. WTf. I cant win for losing!

FREAKIN’ MadCatz!

Well after a month of regular use, my d-pad is showing signs of sticking in the down position. Sometimes it would go back to normal when I switched it to the left analog stick (ps3).

I opened it up to check it out so I’ll post some pics in a bit.

I sold one of mine. and another one is on amazon.com.

They’re completely shit, if ur trying to be a pro. Diagonals are shit. U will get hit, when ur DB blocking. Its fucked. I lost so many matches becuase of it. So i suggest that if ur a bitch u should buy a fight pad. if not go for a freaking stick.

Damn, if I still had my POS Fightpad I’d try this fix out. The fightpad was pretty awesome for playing 2D games like Mega Man 9, but it just sucked ass and wasn’t responsive enough for some fighters.

anyway you could post some pics please and pretty please!

Good stuff, 4th.

Same here. I already returned my replacement for a refund a while back.

On a soapboxing note, if I wanted to do this fix I’d rather get a used FightPad than risk giving MadCatz any money.

I’m having the exact same issue you describe and also thought the 2.4ghz could be interfered with by my wireless hub and my wireless phones. I’m on the 3rd fight pad now and it seems to be having issues. The first one with ken stopped working and the home button remained lit even after taking out the batteries and putting them back. This was after it would stick in random directions.
The next one was blanka, that pad worked for about 2 hours and started to stick on the down or forward direction without a way to make it snap out of it. The ryu one I have now seems to be getting randomly stuck and unstuck in the down and forward/back directions.

I’m starting to suspect that the usb dongle could be the cause unless a big portion of the pads are faulty.

quoted foe seriousness

Well I finally got mine, had ordered it online. Worked ok for the first day, then things started getting stuck, so I popped it open and did the tape trick mentionned earlier. SFIV still is only so-so with it in terms of the diagonal buttons. Oddly enough though, through MAME on my PC playing MVSC or any other fighter, it works great. Hard to tell if the controller doesn’t like SFIV, the ps3 or the PS3’s usb port.

Hey everyone, first post introduction crap blah blah blah. Anyway regarding this “controller” if we can call it that is the biggest pile of crap I’ve ever used. The dpad off this stupid thing fell off, in fact for anyone whose pad is making a clicking sound that is one sign of this crap ruining itself.
