Official DBZ: Budokai 3 Thread

Goryu’s tutorial video

No problem, Pointinel. That’s one of my main goals as a veteran of the Budokai games.

**Has anyone here ever played Dragonball GT Final bout for PS1? ** :badboy:

Ugh. That game.

Fix the speed (make it faster) and make it more balanced, and remove the infinities. UB22 pulled off better shit than that.

Lets not get ahead of ourselves… we need to fix the horrible and frequent bugs first… namely ones that let you pass through your opponent at random times while wailing on the punch button… that seems to respond at random speeds of either not responding at all or damn near half a second later. Then we can worry about fixing the crappy gameplay.

DBGT: FB was a work of art compared to UB22. Good freaking grief did that game SUCK HARDCORE DRAGON BALLS!!! After playing UB22, I honestly have no regrets buying FB. Yeah, FB sucks but compared to UB22, it is a masterpeices years ahead of it’s time.

Really? DBGT Final Bout had loads of infinities, and the gameplay was slow. Much slower than UB22.
UB22 didn’t have infinities and broken characters like SSJ4 Goku of DBGT.

Also, here’s something that’ll really prove that Budokai 3 get get even in more depth than what we’ve known for a long time.
This is an MSN conversation. I am Light of will power, by the way.

Light of will power: I tested out something on the fighting stances

Light of will power: #16 vs Goku

Light of will power: in practice mode

Light of will power: do you understand the concept of hit boxes and vulnerability boxes?

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: um…i think so

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: lol
Light of will power: every attack has a “hit box”

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: ive never heard those terms before, but i might no it

Light of will power: every character has a vulnerability box

Light of will power: in Budokai 3

Light of will power: a vulnerability box is every part of the character’s body

Light of will power: a hit box is the main body part that executes the attack

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: ok
Light of will power: take Goku’s P

Light of will power: the hit box is his entire attacking arm

Light of will power: mainly the fist

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: ok

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: what does this have to do with anything…?

Light of will power: now, #16’s P is a low aimed jab

Light of will power: his fighting stance is kind of wide with his arms, he leaves his whole middle open to attack

Light of will power: most ->Ps connect with Goku simply because of his stance

Light of will power: his arms are far out, that his vulnerability box is more spread out

Light of will power: as an SSJ3

Light of will power: he retracts all of his body into just a stand

Light of will power: his vulnerability box now becomes a pretty straight rectangle

Light of will power: first, take Goku’s ->P

Light of will power: its a mid aimed counterpunch, as you know

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: yea

Light of will power: when Goku executes it on #16

Light of will power: it goes below #16’s front arm, but above his front leg

Light of will power: so Goku has to reach #16’s BODY in order to land it

Light of will power: Goku’s main fighting stance has his arm out

Light of will power: and it covers his whole mid section

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: u think too much…

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: thats not health

Light of will power: #16 basically outreaches Goku’s ->P with his P because of that

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: *healthy

Light of will power: have Goku go SSJ3

Light of will power: #16 has to get in much closer to land it.

Light of will power: I have experience with hit boxes and vulnerability boxes

Light of will power: I’ve worked on MUGEN fighters myself

Light of will power: because SSJ3 Goku has his vulnerability box congested in, his opponents will need to bring the fight much closer to get their range

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: so ss3 is good

Light of will power: but his blocking stance reveals more of his vulnerability

Light of will power: basically, how far a character can reach with their attacks depends on the stance of their opponents

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: if i had had school today, then i wud have a headache because of this

Light of will power: no wonder it was so hard to play a range game using Picc on Omega Shenron, but easy as hell on Goku

Light of will power: or my experience with making fighting game sprites helps

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: yea,
that cud be it

Light of will power: seriously, if #16 can outreach generic ->P starters because of STANCE

Light of will power: that must mean all of us vets have messed up somewhere

Light of will power: and need to completely reconsider what we said

Light of will power: thats why it struck me so quickly

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: i dun think the whole crapness of hyper mode will be effected by this tho…

Light of will power: probably not

Light of will power: hey, maybe there IS a reason to use SSJ2 Trunks!

If life is a journy, shouldn’t you be moving along?: lol!

Just to summaraize the conversation, and maybe explain it better:

Goku’s basic fighting stance has his legs bent a little and his arm out in front of him. This arm that he leaves out makes him more likely to get hit by a long range attack. As long as an attack connects on a body part, the attack lands. Because Goku has his arm out, it gets hit, the attack gets better range.

Goku’s SSJ3 fighting stance has him standing up. He brings his arms in, so rather than using those as an extra stepping stone, you actually have to hit his body, which requires you to get a little bit closer. At this point, Goku can use more of his starters.

Of course, his blocking stance leaves him in between both his SSJ3 and basic fighting stance. SSJ4 fighting stance is a bit less vulnerable than his basic one, but more than his blocking.

but honestly, #16 can outreach and outspeed Goku with a P even if Goku uses a ->P. Goku’s stance allows it. Its the fact that his arm is all the way out there, waiting to be hit, and #16’s stance has his front arm being extended more from the upperside, only leaving the vulnerability of his chest, which is quite a reach. “TRY TO HIT MY FUCKING CHEST WITH YOUR STUPID ->P STARTERS! I MOVED MY ARM UP JUST SO YOU COULD TRY!” is what #16 is saying by doing this.

Even if Goku gets into a blocking stance, #16’s P still has more priority. Better range due to Goku’s vulnerability exposure with his arms, and the fact that Goku has to reach for the body.

it was decided that Teen Gohan’s ->P has 25 reach points, but due to stances, I don’t think that’ll be accurate anymore.

How did I find out all of this? When I noticed Goku’s ->P missing #16. His punch sunk below #16’s arm and over his leg, but not quite far enough to reach his body. I had Ginyu use his ->P against a basic stance Goku, and the reach was totally insane.
I then took notice of it, and decided to report my findings.

This game really does get in depth with the hit boxes and whatnot. That’s truly amazing.

@sprawlers

do you mind giving me tips on how to keep the opp.'s ki low? and what’s the best thing to do when your opp. dashes back and charges his ki?

once again… grateful

one

I never really got into DBGT: FB or UB22 much. I just played them and realized what everyone else had already known: They both really suck. Thank God for DBZ: B3. This isn’t just some poor attempt to cash in on a popular anime series. It looks great, plays smooth and is deeper than most people realize.

And forget the dumb haters, Linkin Park music in a DBZ: B3 vid is cool. Whoever did that, it rocked. Just kill the in-game music next time because I could hear it in the background. Maybe next time we can hear Run Away or Numb. That’d rock.

To keep your opponents ki low, you usually force them to TC. But using a power attack that the enemy can’t recover from followed by a taunt is the most effective way.

Throw a ki blast at your enemy if they dash back to charge up. Chase after them.

Hey, Sprawlers, is Teen Gohan still higher on the tier list than Gohan? I think he can have a better capsule setup than Gohan. Plus Teen Gohan can juggle after his throw, something Gohan cannot do. Add in Meditation and you have one of the best custom chars in the game.

Teen Gohan is above Gohan, don’t worry.

Wow. Frieza is in the top tier? I just now noticed. I think it sucks how so many of his Transformations ponly give him a total of 4 baseline ki. I haven’t really used him in this game so I don’t know what all he can do. I can’t believe he is higher than Cell.

I was over at GameFaqs early this morning. DBZ: B3 community is alive and well over there. I just wish the same type of fanbase for the game existed over here.

I bashed Cell quite a bit on the tier thread. He’s ineffective against turtlers than most of the cast, has limited options in his fighting, and is transformation reliant.
But he has good range, good death moves, good juggling, a good throw and good capsule set-ups.

When are we gonna get some vids man? I understand its not a priority or people don’t take it seriously, but there should at least be one or 2 vids a month…

Sorry for complaining. B3 is apparently a lot deeper than the others, so I really am failing to understand why there aren’t many videos around

Budokai 3 in terms of high level play does not have a big community. That is one of the only logical explanations.

Once I get a better comp, I can make some tutorial vids. If you want match vids from me, it would be me pounding on the AI or random scrubs of the game.

Hey guys,
Did Cancels, stuns, and side-step cancels make it back inot the gameplay for 3? After I starting playing with these methods, the game got alot more interesting; I’m thinking of picking this up when my japanese PS2 rolls around.

Everything except comboable ultimates and physical capsules from B1 anf B2 are in B3, with B3’s new mechanical tweaks that make it one of the most changed in sequel fighting games ever.

So in theory I couldn’t side-step cancel/juggle into an ultimate in B3? Are the physical capsules the blue ones?

Ultimates are nearly impossible to land in B3 on a skilled player.
Blue capsules were the physical ones.
